Gingrich still considering presidential run
Gingrich will gauge his support for a possible run ovre the coming weeks.
(CNN)–Will he or won't he run for president? Many people watching the GOP race for president have been asking that question of Newt Gingrich for months. Gingrich says wait a little longer.
Appearing on 'Fox News Sunday,' Gingrich said his advisor, Randy Evans, would spend the next few weeks talking to people across the country to determine whether they can raise the financial resources necessary to mount a presidential run.
"Governor Romney has been very successful legitimately as a businessman," Gingrich said of former the Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney who is currently seeking the GOP nomination. "He can write a $100 million check. I mean, there's no point in getting into a fight with a guy who can drown you unless you at least have enough resources for a vote. And so if we have enough resources, then close to that we'll face a very big decision in late October. If there aren't enough resources, I'm not for doing unrealistic things," Gingrich said.
Gingrich has said he wants to see if he can get pledges of $30 million before deciding to jump into the race. "I don't want to go out on personal ambition," he told Fox's Chris Wallace. "If there is, in fact, enough people in the country who think we need this kind of approach and this kind of change-oriented policies, then I think I'd feel a responsibility to run."
But would that be too short of time to mount a serious campaign with the first votes of the front loaded primary calendar happening earlier than years past? "I think in the age of television, we are reaching more people today than Abraham Lincoln reached personally his entire career," he said. "You know, we have many friends across the country. If we have enough friends, I think we could mount a campaign in a matter of weeks."

I personally do not believe Newt has the clout he thinks he has, even though he says he is a borned again christian...after condeming Bill Clinton for his sexual encounters with Monica..and he was having an affair with a member of his staff at the same time...I do believe people are tired of the hypocrites borned again or not.
Great news....the originator of "Family Values" who divorced his wife in her hospital bed with cancer while lecturing the rest of us on how to live wholesomely, just as coke head/alcoholic Bush lectured the nation in his first term about the "if it feels good, do it" mindset. One more duplicitous Republican in the race should help the Democrats win back the stolen White House and by a large margin(unless the election is rigged a THIRD time).
I think its a cop out. He knows he has no chance in hell...and yet everyone is pressuring him to get into the race. This way he can say: "oops didn't raise the money...I guess you don't want to be saved" and stop everyone from pressuring him to run...and also props himself up for the 2012 election.
He said himself that the odds of Republicans losing are 80:20 in this election(my guess the 20% that has a chance is Ron Paul). Not really smart getting in with such odds
He should take a hint from the way McCain's campaign is going. They're both yesterday's news.

Newt may or may not have the resources or reputation he hopes, but I would LOVE to see him crush Hillary in a debate. Yes, he has had a murky past, but perhaps American's can identify with that in our many flawed candidates. What matters is not what you've done, but to whom you seek forgiveness – that is a leadership quality that I am looking for.
Unless Newt is lucky enough to kiss a Prince he should save his time and money and return to the pond. His warts will ultimately thwart his chances. Ribit Ribit.

Newt buddy, please. Abe Lincoln has had a profound impact on our country ever since he blessed us with his leadership almost 150 years ago. I’m not sure why you seem to imply that the great legacy of Lincoln’s orations and ideals have ceased to reach people. You are absolutely wrong. Of course, like many of your neo-con buddies, you probably don’t think the average person will notice that you twist tidbits of history to influence your political motive du jour. True, you did use the phrase “his entire career” to leave a loophole for statement, but it doesn’t wash. Yep, you’re just what we DON’T need. We already have many repulsive, hypocritical dividers in office and don’t need duplication.

Democrats need to get over the fact that Bush won the Presidency in 2000 and 2004 fair and square. Their incorrect opinions cannot alter that fact. Maybe it just makes them feel better to keep telling each other he didn't really win. But he sits in the Oval Office.

Oh absolutely! The only thing missing from the Republican slate of candidates was Newt or someone like him. Hopefully he'll get in the sooner the better and start reminding people why they really don't like his brand of Republican much.
What a ticket that would be, Getrich and Thompson. The all time " Odd Couple". One doesn't work and the other talks out of both sides of his mouth. They wouldn't even be an improvement over the guy that now occupies our White House. Come on, America, send all of them Republicans packing. We were in D.C. in April and were talking with a fellow who had run into Gingrich earlier that day at a Senate Office bldg or somesuch. He said Gingrich was pumping the hands of anyone & everyone....obviously running for something. This fellow believed Gingrich is hoping to run as someone's vice president. Sounds plausible.

Debate? I've never seen Newt debate, I've seen him pander to the far right and i've seen him talk over his opposition not giving them a chance to respond but I've never seen him in an honest and open exchange of views. He would fold like the center page of a playboy.

That will guarantee a Democrat in the White House in '09.
If the former Speaker of the House does run, he would give several of the candidates that are running a cause for concern. I know that Romney, Giulinai and Fred Thompson should worry about the conservative base if Gingrich runs. They might be willing support him more than the others despite his divorce. The Democrats might like to see him run and win since he can be as polarizing as Hillary Clinton.
On the other hand, if he doesn't run, it would make him a good potential V.P. I doubt that he would take the V.P. position. He doesn't seem to like being second banana to anyone.

Yeah, didn't think so. Oh, you actually count those that have a couple of democrats talking about non-issues? I don't think she even won those.

Instead of bashing Newt with typical liberal knee-jerk reaction, how about actually listening to the guy.
Back in the '90s, I actually believed what I had heard (NPR) and read (NYT) about the guy. To hear it told back then, this guy was one smoldering cinder away from Satan himself, just waiting to pull Grandma's walker out from under her and wipe his boots on the backs of America's "poor" people.
When I actually listened to the guy give a speech, I realized he's incredibly articulate and could clobber an opponent not only with facts, but real ideas as well.
But honestly, if this guy were to throw his hat into the ring seeking the presidency, the media would literally chew him up like the meat grinder it truly is. Too bad too, because they guy could crush the light weights seeking the office now, including the coat-tail riding, self-appointed Queen Bee herself.
