WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson will report raising more than $7 million in the third quarter, a source inside the campaign tells CNN Senior Political Analyst Gloria Borger.
Thompson is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. There are still three days for candidates to raise money in this fundraising period.

PDQ,
Not sure if my analysis will hold water here, but I'll give it a shot.
A year is 12 months long, making a quarter 3 months. Seeing that September is the last month of a quarter and he got in the race Sep 5th or 6th or so, he has had 1/3 of the quarter to do his week. Extrapolating the amount of money (7 mil) to a quarterly income (7 * 3) it equals 21 million. Seeing that another story here reports Obama and Hillary raising around 20 million this quarter, it looks to be a good amount.
Of course, if we include the other two months of the quarter when he was 'testing the waters' the analysis changes.
However, I wish I'd have made 7 million in the last 10 years, I probably wouldn't have a mortgage anymore.
Have a great weekend,
hahaha, what a horribly small amount for his first quarter of fund raising at this point in the game. It is going to be so fun to watch Grandpa Fredrick's of Hollywood continue to crash and burn.
It's not that great. By comparison Fox estimated that Guiliani will report $10M and Romney $15M which includes his own contribution but even without that is still better than Thompson.
Fred "boss hogg" Thompson earns 7 million? How much of that is he pocketing, like all the lobby money he got while he was working for Planned Parenthood, before he then swiftly flip flopped and said Roe vs. Wade is a "bad law".
This guy is as insider liar pants on fire as they come. If he's elected he will take us to war for dumb reasons at least twice more and the collapse of our nation will finally be complete as he'll do nothing but serve his own greedy interests.
By the way, is it big news that he gets 7 million when the two top Democratic nominees are reporting over 20 million each? This more than anything else should tell you just how pathetic he is.
that's a horrible amount. fred's first full quarter of fundraising is only 1/3 of what giuliani or romney raised in their first full quarter. and doesn't even get near that fraction for the democratic frontrunners in their first quarters (actually it's 1/3 of what they did this quarter).
mccain will raise about 4-5 million and that's considered so anemic that the rumors are that you can stick a fork in the straight talk express. so 7 million is pretty lame for a so-called 'frontrunner'.
looks like lazy fred doesn't like to work. but yeah, that's right, he's supposed to be the new reagan!
the first quarter is supposed to be the easiest because you go after all of the obvious money first...perhaps fred waited too long to declare and most of the enthusiasm for his campaign dried up.
Lance,:
Fred got in after Labor day and raised $7M...Hillary and Obama have been at it all year. This is a big story since they only have 3x as much money in the same period. Admit it, liberals are scared to death of ol' Fred!
He should have raised three times that much. He's been courting donors since Summer asking for their support if he ran. Geeze, I remember when the big speculation was he was going to announce on July 4th. If he was as popular as everyone speculated, his donors should have been lining up the money and waiting for his announcement to dump it on him. Rudy, Fred, Obama, Hillary, all raised $20+ Million
after their announcements. He should have at least that much money. Money chases money, in politics. This weak showing will turn off other donors and put him seriously behind the money chase.
I could be totally wrong of course. If next quarter he raises $20+ Million, he will prove me wrong. If not, Then bye bye Fred
MAJOR disappointment. $7 Million is Bill Richardson/ Ron Paul territory. $7 Million would be a great quarter if you're Mike Huckabee, not if you're a supposed front runner like Thompson. Compare this to McCain calling $12.5 Million "disappointing" in the 1st Quarter. Thompson is dead in the water.
Pretty poor results considering he was supposed to be the second coming of Reagan.
You would think that since much of Bush's braintrust is backing Fred, he would have many more dollars.
Fred's just another open borders and amnesty republican.
Fred "Top Tier" Thompson raises $7 Million in Q3
Ron "Long Shot" Paul raises $5 Million (estimate here) in Q3. Including $1M in ONE WEEK!
...something is wrong here...why is the media telling us Ron Paul is a long shot if he's raising nearly as much money as the Top Tier guys!!!???!!!???
Rob, Ron Paul's take will probably be around 3 million.
I wouldn't make any lofty expectations considering we will know for sure in a couple of days. We need to beat expectations.
FRED IS JUST WHAT THE U.S. NEED TO GET US OUT OF THE MESS WE ARE IN. HE IS A GOOD LEADER AND THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. MAKE THEM SEE RED FRED!
TALK ABOUT " JUNK SCIENCE"
Please tell me you're kidding Marvin from GA, your neck wouldn't happen to be red now would it? Thompson is EXACTLY what this country does NOT need, another dumb, lazy, lying Republican. The measly 7 mil he's reporting is LAUGHABLE. All the hoopla surrounding this moron was just that- Hollywood hype. Once he opened his big mouth and everyone found out how dumb he really is they kept their wallets closed or gave elsewhere. The ONLY people who support this t*rd are the remaining 27% who still think Bush is doing a good job. Thompson couldn't lead a kindergarten class across the street much less lead this country.
Fred seems to be very confused whenever he comes to Florida.
Good news is Florida will not be cofused by Fred.
Mt belief is he is scouting out retirement homes and a tanning salon for the Mrs.
Why does everyone like to hate on Fred? Oh forgot that this is CNN.
Marvin Gray said:FRED IS JUST WHAT THE U.S. NEED TO GET US OUT OF THE MESS WE ARE IN. HE IS A GOOD LEADER AND THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB. MAKE THEM SEE RED FRED!
Hahaha, yeah right, try again Marvin!
7 million for Thompson is pathetic. He has been in the race for 5 months.
All you heard from his supporter..."Just wait till he declares and he'll bring in billions"
Just shows that the "24%" that he has is just name recognition.
PDQ –
$7 million is a glass half-full. While an impressive number for a candidate who has only been "in" the race for a month, it is far from impressive for a candidate who has traded the lead in national polls and leads in most of the South.
There is also the idea of "low hanging fruit" – which says that a candidate's first quarter will be his easiest, because he can tap his strongest supporters – which may give a depressing outlook for the next quarter.
I cannot believe that this guy is a candidate for the Presidency. First of all, the job does require that you be alert for many hours of the day ...and night at times..........enough said?
Ouch! So let me get this straight... Hillary is almost a dissapointment when she raises $20 million a quarter, but Thompson raises $7 million and that's not a clear sign of trouble?
After all the hype for all these months, I keep waiting for Fred Thompson to say something profound about anything that matters, and I haven't heard it yet. Does he have any policy positions other than he's pro gun and anti abortion?
Fred's profound statement: Politicians keep kickin' the can down the road (or somethin' like that).
Fred's too lazy to be president.
Go home, Fred!
Big woof. He's had the whole year to fundraise and he only raised SEVEN MILLION?

Rudy will win the R nomination and the presidency and finally bring this country together with something that has been vastly missing for the past 6 years...COMMON SENSE!!...GO RUDY!!
