Giuliani said the GOP needs to focus its efforts in all 50 states.
(CNN)-Rudy Giuliani says the Republican party needs to change its strategy if it wants to win in 2008.
"How about we win?" the GOP hopeful said in a speech Saturday. "That means that we take back the House, we take back the Senate, and we keep the presidency in Republican hands," he said.
Giuliani said the GOP needs to focus beyond running in 25 or 30 states "which is what we have done in the last 3 or 4 times, which is why we had to depend on Ohio, in '04 and we had to depend on Florida in '00."
He criticized the way certain races had been run in the past. "We do this 30 state campaign, we don't campaign in 20 of the states," the former New York mayor said, "and these happen to be the states where we lost members of the Congress and Senators and we have to become again, among other things in 2008, we have to become a 50-state Republican party."
Giuliani, who was speaking to a gathering of women, said when it comes to Senator Hillary Clinton, D-New York, voters should consider more than just her role as the only woman in the presidential campaign. "American people decide who they want as president based on who they think the right person is for the country, not whether someone is a man or a woman or a different race," Giuliani said. "We have a record that's very, very proud and very long of making certain that women participate on a full and complete and equal basis with men," he said.
Giuliani made his comments to the National Federation of Republican Women Convention in Palm Springs, California. He was scheduled to campaign in Portland, Oregon, and Kirkland, Washington later in the day.

Ironically the republicans will become the party of the states who lost the civil war.
they are still smarting from that, and hatred and racism works a little better there, so it's fertile ground for the modern republican party.
It's ironic that the party of Lincoln became the party of intolerence, fear, hatred and segregation.
Integrating schools didn't quite happen because the white people just sent their kids to private religious (and right wing) schools.
I guess Howard Dean's 50 state strategy was a good idea! Look who's copying it.
I am Not American. I cannot vote.
Mr Giuliani, I do not trust the judgement of most men. I trust men even less when they keep on discarding wives. And when I look at them the third time, I get suspicious if I do not see their wives on the campaign trail. I suppose that when you refer to the 50 states you mean that half of the 50 states the is composed of men.
Talk is cheap for Giuliani. He and a few other republicans (Roney, Thompson and McCain)recently skipped PBS All American Presidential Forum on minority issues.
The Republican party is not an all- inclusive party for all american people.
As a presidential candidate, Giuliani has ignored the minority concerns and he abused women based on his several extra marital affairs while married with his prior two wives.
REPUBLICANS are now starting to imitate Dean?! Hilarious!CampaignDiaries.com
I am convinced that every time a Republican opens their pie holes there are nothing, but lies and more lies that come out. IT'S SUCH A JOKE. Please do the RIGHT thing and the GODLY thing and vote Democrat in 2008. Thank you.
this guy actually thinks the GOP has a chance at winning both the congress and white house? What is this guy smoking?
No wonder he wants to continue the war in Iraq...has no clue what the situation is like in the country.
And so it starts....let's walk through the 4 comments from the left wing above..."will become the party of the states who lost the civil war" – actually – we are everywhere – and we aren't the party that bribes the homeless with free donuts for votes – nor do we tell the weak minded "facts" that are truly baseless – (and they believe it....afterall – why research for the truth...when MoveOn is there to tell us) -"Howard Dean's 50 state strategy" – wow...he's the first to do that? I think Rudy was purely discussing past Republican shortcomings – and admiting mistakes in the way things were handled...(wow...sounds like a president that I would want....admitting mistakes...I guess "it depends on what "is" "is" "and no comment on the "I am not American" – "Giuliani has ignored the minority concerns and he abused women based on his several extra marital affairs while married with his prior two wives" – as with all liberals – this is rhetoric...when Giuliani wins (because he's a moderate – social liberal – fiscal conservative – he speaks to all the people – so moderate Dems will vote for him too...with the Republicans..and the Independents as well) I would suggest that you don't take his advice on marriage...or child rearing....but....as a moderate president – he will be just what the country needs....not a left winger...nor a right...Rudy 08!!
What the...? This is some of the dumbest dialouge that has come out of his strange looking face. Go for it Giuliani! Good luck tricking this next generation of American Voters. He needs to quit tricking the youth into thinking the GOP is a cool thing. In my opinion the current(and probably the next if the stars allign just right for Mr. Reagan's Ghost) Republican Party represents everything that Young Americans despise. Good Luck Clown.
Rudy Giuliani = puppet on a string. Be careful folks. Rove is putting together a package from a secret bunker in Connecticut.
Giuliani's misguided faith that the Republicans can maintain the White House, while reclaiming the House and the Senate, is simply proof he doesn't have a clue what's going on in America.
There's nothing ironic about the party of Lincoln being the party of preemptive war. More like, "fitting." Which is why it is critical for Ron Paul to change that.
Giuliani, I am sorry to say, "that dog won't hunt." He's a weirdo. He answers his cell phone during speeches. He's a complete egomaniac, and people want to put him in charge of the most advanced military on the planet? Pro-Rudy folks need their heads examined.
When Barack Obama is done with you Rudolph, the GOP will need all 50 states just to get enough votes to get you elected to the Juno Alaska City Council.
Yesterday's pig is tomorrow's bacon, and you're on Barack Obama's bacon and egg McMuffin buddy.
They are all the same , the only person worthy of president is the one who follows the constitution, his name is
RON PAUL , he is our only chance, Rudy is a LIAR , ask some of the NEW YORK fire fighters,
read ORWELLS 1984 , they all say the same thing, if RON PAUL LOSES
look out AMERICA, we are on the verge of total financial colapse, federal reserve is corrupt , we have only one chace, hard times are upon us,
RON PAUL for president 2008
You da man, Chris (in Middletown, CT)! You're comments about all the lefties above really hit home. The truth is that they read about this and they see Rudy ahead in the polls and they're afraid that he's right. They don't want what's right for the country. They want handouts, unrealistic spending, and socialism. Rudy represents the opposites of all that – earning money, fiscal responsibility, and capitalism. It drives them crazy and if Rudy's values drives them crazy, then they have to be what's best for our country. Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy!
Well if the Republican party actually CARED about those inhabitants of all 50 states they lust to govern over, they might stand a chance. But a quick review of history suggests that their prime focal point of concern is the further concentration of wealth and power in the U.S. while exporting "democracy" to oil rich regions of the planet with wars of choice and CIA-sponsored coups, such as in Iran in 1953 which is so conveniently forgotten and glossed over. Perhaps like the Geneva Conventions they consider the democratic principles of Washington and Jefferson "quaint". So two rigged presidential elections dependent on Florida then Ohio just kind of get swept away by news of Britney Spears' weight gain and O.J., both matters of obviously FAR greater importance to America it would seem.
Chris, Middletown, CT
I guess you must have been one of the ones who voted for Bush. As I can't see anyone except for Bushionites that would vote for Rudy. He is so much of a Bush Clone he could be Bush's Twin.
Surely no American that is loyal to and concerned about their Nation would ever vote for Rudy and cause their Nation more of the Bush brand of devasation.
If you want to vote for Rudy you mays well cancel the election and just give Georgie another four years in the White House! Reinstitute the draft, get ready for another war more devastating than the one the world is fighting now, borrow billions more from China, give Cheney and Rove squatting privilidges in the White House and prepare for the worst economic disaster America has ever seen. A Thompson and Romney President would equal the same level of devastation.
But hey, I have to congratulate the Republicans one achievement. Our Canadian dollar is now one cent more valuable than the American and growing! First time ever since 1974! So George must be doing something right eh?
A 50-state strategy makes no sense for a party which has next to no chance in many states. Concentrate on the usual Southern rednecks and Mountain cowboys.
Ron Paul has raised $1 Million in less than 6 days
It is highly, highly unlikely that the GOP will secure the House, Senate, or White House. The Republicans have squandered their political capital and have stirred up the passions of an electorate that sees political revenge as an increasingly good way to relieve stress. We're a dissatisfied, disgusted, and disillusioned public and I think we're about to take it out on the Republicans, who have had a multitude of chances to be reasonable, bipartisan, and sane when it comes to governing. They have not taken those chances.
The Republicans will be lucky if to hold mayorships of small rural cities after 2008.The only thing Giuliani should run for is the border.
America outrages me, you all constantly gripe and rage about support the troops bring them home but you vote democrat in 2008, so then this country can look like the cowards who abandoned a country in which we destroyed, the lives lost of my brothers and sisters in arms become totally meaningless, my pay check gets robbed, and then most of all you make each one of us Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors except defeat. Yeah thanks for the support.
What can a Republican possibly run on to get elected?
They surely can't win on their platform: continue to keep our bulk of troops in Iraq, keep driving up the national debt, keep driving down the value of the US dollar, claim fiscal responsibility while spending our grand children's taxes, keep destroying America's freedoms through fear mongering.
That's not a wining platform, sorry Rudy.
Rudy, Campaign note, Keep showing the picture of you holding the mask over your nose. Work the numbers 911 into as many sentences as you can. Get some cardbaord cutouts of your kids and current wife to take on the campaign trail with you. And hope and pray that none of the brave firefighters or police officers from NYC talk about what a bunbling mess your administation was on 911. Free advice, No charge .
Chris,Middletown, drop the "socialist" rhetoric. It's damaging to Rudy to be associating the catholic, knights of columbus,McCarthiest past of his faith to this era. Rudy has made it clear that he does not support theocracy. Many people agree with you about where this country should be headed. The Hillary bashing is putting a tin foil hat on you. It undercuts your credibility to say such ignorant things. Keep pushing for moderation, not extremism.
