Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

    HAHA! Thats amazing!

I agree with Deutsch though, she is far too educated to be so intolerant and stupid. She just does this for the headlines. She was the editor for her college's law review! She can't be this ridiculous...

Ann Coulter is a talk-show host... a conservative shock-jock known to have an edgy sense of humor.

If wants to explore the "Christian" beliefs – Ann is correct. Christians desire all people to find "salvation" which is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their savior. Traditional Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a prophet but not a savior.

Ann was NOT saying Jewish people or any other faith do not have rights, value, or acceptance.

However – let the liberals commence attacking her.

Please, nobody treat this like it's a big deal. It is plainly obvious that Ms. Coulter does not believe a word of what she says.

In her perpetual quest for attention and/or relevance, I fully expect her to resort to going house-to-house spouting malediction.

WOW... Double WOW... I am a Christian and completely and deeply offended by her remarks. To think someone definitely knows God's plan for his chosen people strikes me as utterly and completely arrogant. I am speechless... this is the whopper of all whoppers that AC continually spews. And to tell someone that they shouldn't be offended ... WOW

How can you confuse Ahmedinijad, whose goal is the death of all Jews, with Ann Coulter's comments? Wishing people to convert to your faith is not the same as wishing them dead. Is it anti-Semitic to encourage Jewish people to attend your church?

The woman is a menace to civilized society. Simply put, the Republicans should put here in some dark corner of the RNC and lock the door, because she destroys any credibility they ever had whenever she utters a word. She makes Rush look like a Saint.

I would encourage all news outlets to boycott this wacko for the rest of her unnatural life!

When will people stop giving this disgusting woman a forum? Coulter only says these outrageous things to grab headlines and sell her books. She's laughing all the way to the bank and she's "crazy" like a fox! The press, including CNN, plays right into her hands......

I encourage everyone to dig for the truth and prove that moveon.org has lied about this too. I have no idea how anyone with an IQ over 90 could be satisfied to be fed lies and treat those lies as truth, and still consider yourself intelligent. All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

I'm sorry, but the church that I attended as a child (one of the more lenient Protestant denominations) definitely does not subscribe to this belief, at least they didn't 15-20 years ago. We were always taught that the one thing that you needed to get into heaven was to believe that Jesus was our saviour and that he died for our sins.

Such a belief is completely contrary to the beliefs of the Jews, therefore they can't go to heaven according to the teachings that I received. This silliness of being forced to pick which religion is the true path to God, while not one has more proof than the other, is the reason I dropped out of the whole fray and just live my life by many of the moral codes that they abide by.

I don't understand why with all the horrible, racist, hate filled things this woman says, any reputable networks still has her on. If anyone else had said just one of the things she has said, they would be banished from the airways forever. Imus can't even come close to the things she has said and done. Shame on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC and CBS for giving this woman a platform to spread her hate. I'd say shame on FOX, but they have no shame.

    Golly, what a surprise.

Ann Coulter is the densest, least tolerant person who routinely makes news. Please, stop reporting on this poor woman's rantings.

I'm a huge liberal, but even I can see she gives conservatives a bad image.

Why do people keep putting this woman on tv? Just because someone is "educated" does NOT make them smart. Any of these hosts who invite her on their shows are just perpetuating her career, and it's disgusting that she still gets airtime. She's a loon!
