Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

If people knew as much about religion as they are required to know they would know that Jesus Christ is the Jehovah of the Old Testement. There is only one religion which varies according to degrees of knowledge given by Jehovah or Jesus Christ.

Yes, she CAN be this idiotic and IS.
And while I appreciate the fact that she is constantly exposed for what she is, I wish she would simply be banned from the airwaves by everyone out there. Gee, it's odd how if we Jews control the media she still manages to get on a TV program somewhere to say something so idiotic.

While I appreciate her zeal, her comments were somewhat misguided. Saying that Republicans are all Christians is like saying Democrats are all atheist (although that might be true).

I’m not sure what the “fast track” is unless she means that Christian forgiveness is immediate compared to Judaism’s animal sacrifices.

We (yes, I profess Christ) do not consider ourselves perfected Jews unless we are a Jew. A Jew who has accepted Christ is considered “perfected” because they are God’s chosen people and have accepted Christ as the messiah.

Mr. Deutsch, Ann’s comments are not anti-Semitic. A true Christian’s heart holds deep concern and love for Israel and all the Jewish people.

Mr. Deutsch, one can be highly educated and a complete idiot. One can also be highly educated and be a true Christian. Your comment is anti-Christian.

Ann, if you were saying in that last paragraph that Jews can go to Heaven by following the law of Moses, you should try reading the New Testament.

If your are going to argue for Christ in public, try knowing something about the subject.

she has a law degree & thinks that the imperfection in jews is that the religion obeys laws? so, since christ, the jew, died for all future sins of all christians, he's paid in advance for the sins they commit and christians can do whatever they want? i suppose that in predominantly christian areas we have no real need for any type of legal system. should save this country a lot in legal/prison expenses. now we can really pay for that war.

As Dan Ackroyd would say to Jane Curtin, Deutsch should have said "Ann, you magnificently ignorant [intellectual prostitute for ignorance]."

If it's meant as a joke it is kinda offensive but funny, if not then dang, idiot. Funny but if the host is not in on the joke it dimishes the value of it. It appeals to the lowest common denominator thu, than again so does Anne. If not a joke then she needs to go talk to a Preist for a while. Can we find an audio link for this? Text does so little for sarcasim, and objectivness can skew that. I'd like to hear the conversation, I'll bet it was a joke. If you look at the article it quotes the TRANSCRIPT not the audio source.

The funny thing is that this is Ann Coulter trying to instruct others on what it means to be a Christian, when we are told in The Bible, by Jesus Himself, that we will know a tree by it's fruit. Let's looks at the 'fruit' of Coulter's tree... hatred, divisiveness, slander, lies..... not exactly Christian is it??

I agree that she can’t possibly believe what she is saying and is once again simply trying to make headlines and get a little more time in the spotlight to fill her insatiable need for attention.

She shouldn't be so quick to speak for all Christians. Catholics for one do not think that Jews need to be "perfected" and do not try to convert them. We believe that the covenant God made with the Jews still stands and that the New Testament doesn't supercede it. This was spelled out in the 2002 document “Reflections on Covenant and Mission”.

Jon, from Sacramento, makes an absurd statement when he says, "Let the liberals commence attacking her."

Jon seems to imply that only liberals may be offended by Coulter's remarks. Although Coulter is a conservative political analyst, I somehow doubt that all conservatives, or all Christians for that matter, support her "Christians are perfected Jews" rhetoric.

Any person who supports tolerance and acceptance (values taught by Coulter's savior, Jesus) should be offended by Coulter's statements.

I am a conversative (moderate) but what Ann Coulter says sickens me and does not represent mainstream Repbulicans.

I love all of the tolerance Libs show Ms. Coulter.(psst – that is sarcasm) It is very typical that Liberals would be hypocritical in this matter as well. If they really believed in the rights that our Constitution protects then they should be able to listen to Ann just as they did the Iranian President and respect both. The Left is really only accepting to their own “ideas” or “beliefs”. How does Ahmadinejad deny the Holocaust and call for the removal of Israel but not come under fire or draw equal dislike as Ms. Coulter? Left America really scares me. Amen, Jon from Sacramento.

Ann Coulter has really done it now. Her small mindedness and lack of tolerance or real understanding of the human condition -arrogance and narcissism has become almost overwhelming–normally if she is on the screen I change the station for she is someone that should not be encouraged for her opinion comes from a dark soul.

Ann Coulter has to be the absolute dumbest person on the face of the earth. And that takes quite a feat considering that there is still Bill O'Reilly out there as well as many other bible thumpers. What she doesn't realize is that if a decent amount of people voted in this country there would be no such thing as the Republican party because of the fact that more people tend to lean on the side of an actual democracy not one that is made up to look like one in the eyes of someone who hasn't been educated in their life.

She is not that stupid. She knows exactly what she is doing: exploiting ignorance for profit, and it has been working for a long time now. That is the sad fact of why she still has a forum to spew garbage. If she didn't have an audience, it wouldn't work.

I'm so sad for this pathetic woman. She obviously has no grounding, and no sense of respect for others. Can you imagine how embarrassed her parents and family must be to see how she has "grown up".

Even if it is what Christians think, that everyone should convert to their beliefs, THAT is offensive and intolerant. As long as other people are telling me that I cannot decide what to believe by myself they are trying to repress and subjugate me, and that will be offensive no matter what religion they are promoting.

Ann is right on. Christian are perfected Jews – It is that simple.

You should read what Martin Luther had to say about Jews and their faith. He had a 7 step plan to reform the Jews.

A Christian goal should always be to try to convert Jews to the Christian faith. Read the Bible – it is all there. DUH!
