Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.
Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004
"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)
When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."
Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"
"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."
"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”
"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."
Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."
"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."
Deutsch said he was personally offended.
"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."
Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.
"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."
I never ceased to be amazed at the ridiculous hypocrisy of you media types. You act horrified by Coulter's despicable views and yet you keep on encouraging those views by giving her all the media attention she desires.
Lie down with dogs and, yes, you wake up with fleas.
This woman truly needs to keep her mouth shut. She probably believes in the Aryan Nation ideal too. What an idiot.
To everyone asking why Ann is still on TV: It's because she's NOT that obscure in her incredibly ignorant beliefs. A lot of people in this country completely agree with her, even if they may occasionally loudly yet gently slap her wrist for her acidic delivery.
I long for the day that the Dems put up a real secular progressive for President. Hillary and Obama pandering to Christians is *almost* enough to make me not support them.
Because the truth is that Christianity IS an intolerant, circular-logic faith, by definition. They are indeed "perfected Jews" in their own eyes, Jews originally being God's chosen people.
Modern Jews, along with Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, animists, atheists, agnostics and retards, are ALL going to Hell. Didn't you know?
The trick is in overcoming that PR disaster while still trying to save souls. Have pity on them, it's not an easy job.
Point is, Ann's a hero to a significant chunk of the nation. You're not surprised, are you?
she might be the dumbest white woman alive.
Funny, I just had a picture of God in my head laughing and thinking to himself...Ann you ain't getting in anyway, so get your fill for the "Dream" at the next GOP convention.
I find little difference between fundamentalists of any stripe – Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc.
They all tell the same story – intolerance of other's beliefs.
Instead of violently making their points they hide behind their "faith" to metaphoriclly rid thenmselves of those that do not abjectly follow their lead.
How sad!!!
Gee whiz, people using words like, "poison" to describe what Ms. Coulter said. If the truth is poison to some then so be it.
What she said is exactly what Christians believe. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it "intolerent" or "poison" or whatever you want to demonize it.
I suspect there are a bunch of you here making comments anyway.
Karen in Charlottesville,
you said "How is Anne Coulter's thinking really any different from that of the Taliban? Except, she wants a world filled only with blue-eyed blonde Christians – like herself… while they want the entire world to look like them. Where is that 2004 RNC "happy" tolerance" of which she speaks so yearningly? It's certainly NOT in her life view!"
Check out her roots! Not even a true blond!.....actually, she IS starting to seem more and more like Hitler, isn't she?
Coulter is a bigot who promotes ignorance and hate, no surprise that she presents herself that way. It has nothing to do with her education. Just because you read a book doesn't mean you will understand it. Small minds think a like.
If Andy Coulter and people like him are the ones going to heaven, I'm glad I'm not going!
And yes, I think virtually all republicans and all theists are idiots!
Yes Ann Coulter's comments are diseased and laced with an underlying message that is designed to break down a tolerant view of the world's religions, but the main culprit here is CNN for offering a venue for her comments to be paraded upon. Th age-old comment goes "Any news is good news." Unfortunately, only Ann and CNN win with this senseless commentary.
Too bad that that guy wouldn't shut up long enough to hear Ms. Coulter's explanation. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Christianity is the completed work that the Jews are still looking for. If she offended him,all she was doing was telling him the truth.
I just think that it is hilarious that people get SO worked up about EVERYTHING. I couldn't care less what she says or what she thinks, as well as about 90% of the people out there. There are more important things to spend your energy on than getting upset about silly things like this.
Ann, Ann, Ann, you keep opening mouth and inserting your foot. What is wrong with you. Do you do this for attention. If the answer is yes, your getting all the negative attention one could possible seek. Christianity is not a federal express religion. What goes with you girl???
You want to hear the funniest part of all of this??? She dates a Jewish guy. (But I have a feeling it won't be for much longer)
I'm pretty sure the Republican party will want to distance themselves from her. If they don't, they should. She leaves me speechless. I just wish she were.
Some people say that Coulter is simply making these inflammatory statements to sell her books and there's no harm done. She may not believe what she says, BUT there are Americans and other countries that will believe her comments are true. These words may possibly lead people to take dangerous action against innocent Christians and Jews. It has happened many times before.
Why does CNN give Ann Coulter air time? Why aren't people outraged? Boycott CNN until they stop promoting Ms. Coulter and her twisted agenda!
First of all who gave this woman permission to speak for the Christian community ??? not anyone i have heard of ....its very obvious that she has never even opened a bible let alone studied any part of it. so Christian leaders need to put this fake blonde in her place and if possible legally stiffle her from any kind of public display where she say's she represents the Christian community. we have enough problems with the secular world without some ditzy scank running around running her mouth about something she knows absolutly nothing about..so we need to pray that maybe someone will put super glue in her cheerios and shut her up... or better yet just tell her to put a lid on it and quit sayin you speek for everyone....
She may have stated it clumsily but there's no denying the fact that Christians believe our religion is a continuation of Judaism and we pray for the conversion not just of Jews but of the world every day. We were commanded by Christ to preach the Good News and baptize all nations.
Sorry if that's offensive; it's not meant to be but it is what it is.
Amazing! When flag burning and gay pride marches are shoved in our face by the media, everyone applaudes this country's tolerance of free speech. But, anyone, regardless of thieir individual views on Christianity dare speaks of Jesus, God, or salvation, everyone is quick to want to boycott, or label them as crazy, embarassing, freakshow, and outrageous.
LOL. Why does everyone say this woman is attractive?! Look at her gigantic Adam's apple! yuck.
Ann Coulter is the poster girl for all that is offensive about Christianity in today's world. As a committed Christian, I ask Christ to forgive her intolerance, bigotry and willful misinterpretation of His word. I wouldn't mind if He made her incapable of speech, either.
Jan – Never be ashamed to admit you're a Christian in public. You are meant to be an "ambassador" of Christ. Just help people to understand that not all Christians are as misguided as Ms. Coulter.
Ann Coulter: News flash: Christians are NOT perfected as long as we live! That was the Apostle Paul's point. We spend our lives "pressing on" to "finish the race..."
BTW, this is a good opportunity to make a very important point. Republicans chastize African Americans for being predominantly Democratic voters, arguing that we should be siding with social conservatives on the GOP side. The fact that the RNC is filled with "Good Christians" like this (as well as the teaming masses of KKK, Phineus Priests, and Neo-Nazis) is one reason why many African Americans go out of their way NOT associate with the GOP!
Shes just trying to sell more books. Why people can't see that is beyond me.
