Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Coulter wraps herself in an American flag and professes to be patriotic, but like all right wings nutcases, she hates the constitution, except the part about gun ownership. She is just like the islamic nutcases, wanting to kill all infidels. Need I remind everyone one more time, this is a FREE country, where NO ONE is required to profess to any one faith or even faith in god at all. God is nothing more than a license to act as if one is above the laws of our country. In other words, I hold the Bill of Rights and the Constitution to be sacred above all other texts or beliefs. Ann C. is no intellectual, just a phony citizen.

It is always confusing to me to hear religious people speak of tolerance. It would seem to me that religion itself creates the intolerance in this world. Why can’t people allow each other to have their own beliefs without criticism? Can anyone really prove that what they believe is the absolute truth anyway?

The more she opens her mouth – the more harm she casues Republicans. I for one encourage this idiot to continue spouting hate. We'll see who has the final laugh in a year or so, when the country has had enough of her and her cronies.

Excuse me, but if she doesn't mean what she says, than why is she stupid enough to say it to the world? And the liberals do not need to "commence attacking her," because her offensiveness and utter rudeness towards anyone who is not a white, heterosexual, Republican, Christian person like herself just sets her up as being a disgracefully stupid, vain human being.

It IS a BIG DEAL. No matter whether or not Ann Coulter actually believes what she has said, or if she just makes these kinds of remarks for the "shock value", her statements continue to be unacceptable, inappropriate, and downright uncivil. Her brand of intolerance and hatred should be ATTACKED by a society of enlightened people.

Everytime i hear any news about this lady she says something either really off the wall or just something thats just plain offensive. I think if someone said something similar about wanting all Americans to be a different religion other than Christian, she would probably flip out and call them anti-Christian or something.

I hope that guy got to tell her how stupid she is or something off camera. I'm not Jewish but I found her comments offensive.

I would find this a shocking statement by anyone on the planet, except Coulter. Bless her pointed little head as she is a walking recruitment poster for the Democratic Party.

Ann Coulter is the mouth piece for the party that has in the past shown anti semitism as part of its values. Richard Nixon and Rev.Billy Grahm shared the same view. When will this woman write a book on "What a Moron Might Say"

It makes me physically sick to think of an entire nation made up of people that think like Coulter. As an atheist with Jewish heritage I can only be offended by her words. I don't understand how an educated person like her can be so closed minded.

Don't you guys see it yet? This crazy Coulter broad says outrageous things just to get media attention. Stop providing it. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound? That is what we should do with Coulter. Silence her, by not being there!

Why is CNN giving air time and coverage to this person (Coulter). You're not required to cover her rants. I find it abhorrent that you would aid this hate monger.

Coulter is correct in saying that Christ died for our sins, but she is wrong to suggest that anyone can be perfect. Except for Christ, only time any of us (including Christians) can ever be perfect is in heaven.

Anne Coulter is easily ignored soon after her mindless talks. So she has to say something that will show up on CNN from time to time. I wish everyone would ignore her. That would make her go to the asylum where she really belongs. I blame the radio show hosts and tv hosts to even give her the time of day. She has absolutely no intelligence in that small mind...or I should say, the IQ of a redneck bigot.

Ann Coulter has done it again...why do people want her around is beyond me. As for Jon in Sacramento, get a life. I live in Sacto, I am a Christian and I love my Jewish friends and I should be as perfect as they already are. Ann, you make me sick.

Judaism is the foundation of Christianity. Christ was a Jew. Ann must have been thinking about one of her property law classes wherein we lawyers learned about perfecting liens. I can't believe I'm defending her, because I hate how she divides us, but she just ineptly tried to say that Christians have the benefit of being saved by grace–If you truly repent and profess a belief that Jesus died for your sins and accept Jesus as your Savior, you're in. In Ann's words, it is like Fed-Ex compared to the Old Testament's long list of requirements, dietary laws, etc. You cannot by your own works enter the kingdom of heaven. You are able to perform good works by letting Christ's light shine through you. But it's not about us. Or Ann or other very public Christians. It's about us being saved by Jesus' sacrifice and then being able to do good in the world because of accepting Christ's teachings. As Ann said, we're all sinners. Christ gives us the path to salvation–by grace alone. It's a hard concept to wrap your head around.

Ironically, Osama bin Ladin and Ann Coulter think exactly alike when it comes to their respective religious dogmas: 'To be a perfect human being, you have to have the religion I have'.

It is so obvious that Ann Coulter will say /do anything to get publicity. The woman makes no sense at all.The best thing we all can do is to simply ignore her – that is the fittest punishment. She is irrelevant.

The scarier people are the ones who truly believe in hate speech – not publicity hounds like her

Apparently she is not one of those "Happy Christian" people she talks about or she wouldn't always look like she was mad at the world. We know she isn't tolerant and what has she done lately to "defend America? A REAL NUT CASE.

Coulter has the right to say whatever she wants. Criticism should be placed on the TV networks that give her a forum, the newspapers that carry her column and the publishing companies that publish her books.
