Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

She's not my type of Christian. She doesn't represent me in any way. She should only speak for herself, not Christians.

    She's a loser.

At least someone has the hair on their chest to say it straight up. No offense was intended, none should be taken. Get over it!

Jews do not believe JC was a prophet.Ever.

Us Jews are used to hearing stuff from non-Jews like what Ms.Coulter said. It doesn't matter how educated or "wordly" she is- they all say it to us.

    Nothing ever changes.

Listen, this lady simply spoke her mind-she offered her belief Which I remind everyone of you brain dead anti white things out there is a founding priciple of this country. If YOU DO NOT LIKE IT, GO TO ISRAEL. This is so typical white chrisian bashing once again by SOME people in the jewish community who feel this is the United States of Israel and freely attack anyone who offers a simple opinion, further more I do not expect fair impartial coverage of this story since CNN is owned by a jewish person. If the same question was posed to a person living in Israel, their reponse would be "a country where everyone is jewish", and this response would NOT be portrayed the same way it was here.

I am always amazed (and saddened) that our media gives a recurring voice to people like Coulter. It feels as though our society has once again grown accustomed to the voices of hate and intolerance that somehow claim to be sharing the word of God.

If Christ indeed chose to die to save the world from the sins of hatred so often espoused by Coulter and her ilk, I think he's got to be regretting that decision!

I am a Catholic who does not want to be associated with Ann Coulter. She does not speak for me or my wife. We are truly offended, probably more so than if we were Jewish. She should be censored and taken off the air just like they did to Imus.

And Don Imus got the boot for what he said – let's see how fast Ann gets booted – it should be immediately – besides she is just a guy in drag. Just because someone is educated does not mean they are intelligent. She has got to go and Now.

Ann Coulter Rocks!! She says out loud what many of us think or feel or perhaps even say in private. Only difference between her and others is she doesnt buy into this whole politically correct BS. Although I may not agree with everything she thinks or says I recognize and respect her right to air her views no matter what and no matter who might be offended. Its life..something is always going to offend someone. Should priests or ministers be lambasted for stating their beliefs? Everyone has a belief or an opinion on something and to blast them or ridicule or condemn them for said beliefs and/or opinions makes a narrow minded person.

Coulter has lost so much weight from her apparent eating disorders that her brain has stopped functioning. She's become a true anorexic lame brain.

Eat something, for your Christian God's sake.

If you looked like a horse and had eyes and hair that ugly, wouldn't you say the the most asinine things in the universe for attention? What bothers me now is that networks and other outlets give her the space to spread her filthy, racist and dimwitted views. I am not jewish but I am offended by her statements and it's sickening that she has a forum. CNN, please pull this article. the best thing for her is NO PUBLICITY.

What a mistake Ann! You should have spoken about the 'wonders' of cleansing the world from Muslims and Arabs. Everyone would have cheered you up and at worst you would been seen as a 'patriot' instead of the flag weaver you actually are. But you chose to mess with the almighty power of the 'Holocaust'. NO ONE does it and survives.

    What were you thinking?

I'm really beginning to think/hope that Ann Coulter has been planted by the left in an effort to make the far right look absolutely ridiculous. Personally, I shudder at the thought of a Christian only world. If she truly believes the garbage that comes out of her mouth then the only "fast track" she's on is the one to hell (if it exists of course).

I agree with Rodney. Whether she believes her own nonsense or not, she gives Christian supremacists cover and confidence. Too bad these bigots don't actually care about what Jesus really said and did.

What I don't understand is why anyone listens to this bimbo anymore. She is really stupid and always has been. She says these things to support herself because then she gets on more talk shows. Why bother? Who cares? Boooooring.
