Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

oh Jeeze – she's just pushing buttons. Has she got another book or something coming out soon? She's the political Lindsey Lohan – not without talent but doesn't care if the publicity is good or bad so long as she gets a headline.
I don't often agree with this woman but she very clearly has a brain in her head. She wouldn't make that stupid a blunder.

Doesn't sound very educated to me.
So, by doing this interview she was trying to recruit people to her world-view? Counter-productive, imo.

Shocking! A Christian believes the world would be a better place if everyone was Christian. I'm pretty sure that's implicit in the Gospels.

To let her pass on this type of intolerant and divisive speech is not acceptable. Free speech works both ways, she said something foolish at best and dangerous at worst, she should therefore face the consequences of those awful words. I frankly see no difference between the kind of thinking she has and the kind by radical islamists... my way is right, everybody else is wrong, follow my rules or my God will not accept you. I can tell she really believes what she's saying and even if she doesn't she's intentionally trying to incite others to think this idiotic way. She should apologize for once in her life.

Ann Coulter may have gone to school, but she is a venomous, hateful and bigoted person. She has publicly displayed enormous hatred for anyone that doesn't follow her "doctrine". An intelligent person should only feel compassion for how misguided she is. She is a a very sad person.

I used to think she made outrageous comments just to promote herself with the morons in the extreme right.. Now, I realize I was wrong. Actually, She just doesn't have a clue!

Another example of diseased individuals... Man made beliefs will never be proper for everyone. While religion helps us to cope with life itself, its still man-made... Diseased.

Republicans are pathetic. They're either stealing from the taxpayer, coming out of the closet, or scheming to get rid of anyone with an IQ over 95.

Ann is too brash on the subject, but she is absolutely right. A core belief of Christianity is that we are "perfected Jews". She is brash to get headlines, but knows what she's talking about. The point that we'd be happier if we were all Christian refers to the fact that if we were all part of the same religion then ideally we'd get along better.

Respectfully to Jon in Sacramento, traditional Jewish faith does not recognize Jesus as a prophet. I believe that Islam does recognize Jesus as a prophet, however.

    To Jon in Sacramento:
Traditional Jewish faith most definitely does not recognize Jesus as a prophet, but not the savior, as you state. Nowhere is Jewish biblical texts is Jesus mentioned at all.

Ann Coulter is insane. Nothing she says surprises me. What surprises me is that anyone cares.

Don Imus was fired for far less. Ann Coulter is a danger to society, whether she believes what she says or just says it to stir people up. She should be banned on the airwaves and shunned by her readers. This latest comment is akin to her attack of the 9/11 widows and warrants the same kind of negative publicity she generated when her last book was published. Shame on her and shame on anybody that would buy or read her books and this includes the talk show hosts who give her a platform on which to spew her venomous thoughts and lies.

I feel embarrassed for all Christians that they have someone like Ann Coulter claiming to speak for them. If anything convinces me that evil reigns in the world today, it's the fact that people like MLK and John Lennon are assassinated when others like her inexplicably are left alone.

Ann, your blonde hair is scaring me and I fully expect you to break out a "sieg heil" next time... just for "fun."

Why do the Republicans keep inviting her to speak at their events? Isn't she an embarrassment to the party?

The only reason that comes to mind is that the "southern strategy" of inflaming racial stereotypes is alive and well. The Republicans know that in order to win the south they have to toss the racist (anti-Semitic) crowd a bone, just to let them know they're the ones to vote for *wink wink*

As a follower in Christ, some of the comments she makes, makes her more of a liability than an asset to Christiany. Some of what she said is true, but one thing she lacks is "speaking the truth in love". When she's rude unbelivers would look at her and say, is this what being a Christian is all about? Although we all may fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) we have to remember as Christians we have the magnifying glass on our every move. So some of the things we do outside of God's will not only affects us, but also our neighbor. I don't know of Ann Coulter's personal relationship with Christ, but Jesus said we shoud know them by their fruit.

She is what she is: Racist. Thats it. Dont defend, say she's too intelligent...she said women shouldnt vote, she REALLY believes that. Very narrowminded. Not just that, she may as well have said blacks and jews shouldnt vote either to have a republican president. She's a prejudice snob.

I think Ann will be very surprised one day when she gets to the gates of Heaven, only to find out she's not on the list of God's invites to the party –assuming that is, that she actually believes the things she says.

Just like when Carter was saying his equally stupid remarks (Bill Clinton had no problems with terrorists while in office???) they are selling books and love the publicity.

Coulter is brilliant like say a Bill Maher or Dennis Miller where they make references that not everyone gets.

I don't agree with her sometimes, but just like when Maher said the terrorists who slammed in the buildings are not cowards, the ones dropping bombs from the sky are (something to that effect), there is some context to it, you don't have to agree with it.

Why is this on the political ticker and the POSSIBILITY that Edwards cheated on his wife is ignored?

Just wondering? I hope it is a false story by the way.

Though speaking in glib soundbite language, Coulter is almost perfectly paraphrasing the Bible. Read Hebrews 9:1 through 10:16. It's about men living under the Jewish covenant / law never being able to sufficiently please God well enough to bridge the gap. Christ offers the perfect, once and for all sacrifice, through which men are justified / perfected by faith in Him.

Without being judgemental or anti-semitic, this is what Christians who are Chiristians by faith, not just by habit and attendance at church, believe.

    Uhh,

To tell the truth, the idea that Judaism sees Jesus as a prophet or as a wise man, is a white lie we tell Christians so they don't feel bad - or at least, so they don't start progroms. Jesus has no standing in Judaism because he is a non-entity within the culture and theology. He only exists outside the religion as an excuse for attacking Jews.
