Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

I don't have a problem with this person believing that someone died for her sins ... my problem is that she insists that *I* believe that way, too.

*I* am responsible for MY sins ... I would never expect someone else to die for what I do.

Besdies, Jesus was born, raised, and died a Jew. Hopefully, you do know what bigotry from a mob did to him!

Ask him if he thinks it's easy to be Jewish!

When Christmas rolls around, please keep your "Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men, Let it Begin with Me" to yourself.

If you are not part of the solution, then YOU are part of the problem that Jews continue to face because of fools like you ... and your other mob-sters.

Ann Coulter is a vile hate-monger who simply does not deserve the attention or credibility she seems to get. Just because she has an education and is relatively articulate does not negate the fact that spews venom, not truth; her style is deliberatly inflammatory and based on insult and intimidation.

Ann Coulter always reminds me of a saying by Bertrand Russell: The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

I like Ann Coulter. I like her because she is the only conservative who says what conservatives really believe. All the others butter it up.

While Bush butters up war as "spreading freedom and democracy", she says, "invade countries, overthrow their smelly Muslim turbine wearing leaders and convert them to Christianity" (real quote)

She says what all republicans believe but are afraid to say. She's the one honest republican out there.

Jews (I am one) don't believe that Jesus was a prophet. Islam believes that. To the extent Jews believe that there was a specific Jesus, we believe he was one of many people during Roman occupation who claimed to be the Messiah but turned out to be a fraud. Had messianic prophecy been fulfilled, the Jews would have consolidated and retaken their homeland under his leadership, and there would be an era of peace ("nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall there be war anymore").

Last I checked, there is still plenty of war. Now, I understand Christianity believes that all people, even Jews, need to find Jesus and "be saved," and you Christians may have your beliefs, but to claim that America would be a better place if there were no Jews, only Christians, is reckless and advocates the destruction of a 4000+ year old culture.

Christians no more "believe in Judaism" than Judaism believes in Buddhism.

She's talking about the jews being the cause of most of our nations problems. Because of of them we are in the jam in Iraq. Because of them we could get into a pickle with Iran. Although cooler heads will prevail cause we are outstretched as is. We've been the proxy for the Jews, Israel for too long. She's talking about the Jew lobbies and its intentions.

I wonder what she was thinking about while she was making out with Andrew Stein (Former New York City council president and lifelong Democrat) this week at Soho House.

Yah know, it bothered me a tad when she called me a liberal (as if that's a bad thing).

Then she called me Godless, and it ruffled my feathers.

But, hey now that she's clarified - and talked about her god and what she thinks Christians should believe..

Well, it's obvious we don't worship the same God.

How dumb can the media be to give her any space at all!
How dumb can the right be to imagine this creature is their high priestess!
How dumb can the liberals be to get their knickers in a twist about this clown!
How dumb can we be talking about what an idiot says!
And the idiot is laughing all the way to the bank generating hype for the trash she dishes out.

Wake up people of the right! Your heroes are rightly people like Ronald Reagan and not a creature like this. By elevating her you insult the memory of great Republicans.
    Wake up people.

Why is it that people find her comments about Christianity offensive, but don't find it offensive that

    a) Jews believe that they are the chosen people of God.

    b) that their right to the nation state of Israel extends from a promise given them by God.

These are beliefs fundamental to orthodox Judaism, but no one condemns them as intolerant, nor should they. That's what faith in religion is. Similarly, Christians believe that Christ brings the old Testament to perfection. Why is this so wrong?

In three minutes Coulter has put back Christian/Jewish relations 100 years or more. In addition she has placed Christians in a terrible light. She does not speak for this Christian at all as I am an ardent supported of Israel and the Jewish people chosen of God. Ann, sincerely, stick to politics and stay away from theology.

Doesn't anyone get it? She was on the show to begin with to show how she makes money by offending people. Is it that much of a surprise that she said an offensive comment on the air? The funny part is that her technique is working. She is getting even more of the negative press that made her well known in the first place.

She is a perfect example of the common Republican. They believe they are better than everyone else just because she looks and thinks differently. And by "WE" who does she mean because she doesn't seem perfect at all.

I'm not a very religous person. So, I don't see this comment as malicious. She's exercising her constitutional freedom of free speech. Isn't it true that the Jew in Jerusalem were partly responsible for Jesus dying at the cross. Now that will stir up the religous fanatics....

As a Catholic Christian I am offended by her comments! The next step after she "perfects" Jews (through "special treatment" if necessary, no doubt) she will go on to determine if my Catholic faith is also Christian by her definition. I am in no mood to be perfected as she defines it!

i don't think she's being intolerant. in fact, unlike many christians, she has the backbone to stand up for what the bible teaches. john 14 – "i am the way, and the truth, and the life. no one comes to the Father except through me." if you want to get to heaven, jesus is the only way. pretty clear message. if deutsch is offended by that, he doesn't know the basics of christianity.

Mr. Blitzer, stop spinning the partisan mill, pleas. I’m Jewish, and I feel no animosity towards Ann Coulter. Of cause Christians believe their faith is “more perfect” – that is why at least some of them SINSERELY prefer it. Moreover, I trust Ann much more than politically correct liars and euphemism users who would not speak their minds towards Judaism and pander to Islamo-Nazis on campuses at the same time. In turn, I believe Judaism is “more perfect”, but I don’t see how on earth one would discuss that matter with “Christians” kind of Carville.

Why on earth does the media continue to give Ann Coulter time on the airways? She's so insignificant in the grand scheme of things – who cares what she has to say. This latest commentary shows how uneducated she really is.

This is not surprising. All conservatives are deep down true bigots against people of color, other religions and nationalities. It’s just a matter of time before Limpblau, Hannity,OReilly and Savage come out of the swastika closet.

Its a shame you folks cant blame that on hip-hop. Whatever happened to disagreeing with someone but allowing them to have their opinion? Anyone who practices a religion should believe that religion to be the truth over others. Stop asking questions to things that might offend you.
