Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

    To Jon;
Traditional Judiasm does not accept Jesus as a prophet since he spoke in his name rather than the name of Hashem. Many of us do however acknowledge his worth as a humanistic philosopher.

Please shut up, Ann. You are an embarrassment to the human race.

She's become way too used to making ridiculous, over-the-top statements, and then finding a back-door in her logic through which she can climb and avoid consequence. Unfortunately, it's not like our culture of headline-based information is condemning this sort of behavior. Classic histrionic behavior...just ignore her, people.

I cannot believe she just said that. I am jewish, and I am horrified that we still have people like her in America. This is the problem with the conservative regime led by Bush. 4-8 more years of Republican control could lead to religious persecution. It is horrible how backwards our country still is.

She has to be releasing a book or something, any press is good press when it is free. Perfected Jews, perfectly stupid comment.

As a Christian, I am offended by this. I refuse to allow Ann Coulter to be define Christianity to America, becasue she obviously has very little idea of what Christianity is.

That is the problem with the "Christian Right." They get caught up in this idea of what the Christian Right is supposed to be (intolerant, holier-than-though consveratives blindly voting along party lines) and forget what being a Crhistian means (tolerance for ALL people, even Jews).

Doesn't really believe what she's saying? ROTFLMAO! Of course she believes it! Duh! We're all just getting a clear look at her thinking. She's just being honest. Anne Coulter is proof that educated and productive people can be very stupid, actually. I've met a number of people in high positions who were looked up to and respected by many, but were still not bright at all. Why did people admire them? See the children's story "The Emperor's New Clothes." The woman is dumb. For all those who've bought her books and sent money her way I've got one word to describe you: SUCKER!

She just likes to cause controversy in any way shape or form. I can just imagine how irate Deutsch got but thats obviously what she wanted. She wanted to rile him up. I don't know why anyone gives her the time of day – shes just a loud mouth who wants publicity

Thank you for continuing to expose Ann Coulter for the intolerant, hypocritical moron that she is. How does she keep a straight face when she speaks?

Classic Coulter. She just cracks me up.

The funny thing is that she will spin this to make everyone think that Deutsch is part of the media conspiracy to bring down America.

    She was offensive. Period.

Ann Coulter is, quite possibly, the biggest idiot on the planet. Why anyone listens to anything this obnoxious, severely confused, ignorant harpy has to say is beyond me. As a Christian, I'm embarrassed by her comments and would like to apologize to the Jewish community for Ann's ever so frequent idiot-speak.

Why does anyone pay attention to Ann Coulter? Her comments are all too calculated, intended to provoke a response and get people to pay attention to her, and all too often tied to her latest book. Don't give her the satisfaction.

What Ann meant was "perfect in Christ". The only way to heaven is through the perfect ONE, Jesus Christ. Because, if it were up to us (humanity) there is no way to heaven. Jews reject Jesus, therefore, no perfection. Christ is the only one who takes on our sins and makes up acceptable to God. Like it or not, that is the way it is!

At what point does Coulter stop being an educated, articulate and occasionally entertaining devils advocate and become a babbling, irrelevant idiot?

She's no longer insightful, just tiresome, and adds nothing to a rational debate of our national perspectives.

OK, Honestly to me Ann Coulter represents everything currently wrong with America. There is this big facade the Republicans hide behind and they call it Religion. It's so easy to talk all about Religion, but live it they do not. Ann Coulter is intolerant... Simple as that. The thing that makes me sad is that people buy into her lies.

Jonathan's right. She's just playing devil's advocate (perhaps more literally than the phrase usually implies), and so obsessed with piquing our gag reflexes every so often that she takes it to the extreme.

Let's hope this fallacious, ignorant, nearsighted remark doesn't gain too much press. Almost makes me wish for another Britney story...almost.

It's truly amazing how someone so well educated can be so intellectually inferior to the rest of the educated world. As a Jew, I am personally offended by her remarks, and her anti-Semitic rantings just prove the neo-Nazi beliefs she truly has.

"Christians desire all people to find "salvation" which is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their savior."

Unfortunately, that's true, and the reason why most "Christians" are obnoxious, xenophobic blowhards.

Ann Coulter may be shallow and bigoted, but she's obviously smart enough to know that the more outrageous crap she spews, the more attention she'll get, and the more her books will sell. Let's all just ignore her and hope she goes away.

Wow. She never ceases to amaze me with her childish, look-at-me behavior.
I do think she has offended almost every human at this point in her opinion-based career, so she should run out of material soon. I hope.

This Halloween, I am dressing up like Ann Coulter.

I think it is unfortunate that someone who talks about her religion as though she believes it matters is labeled a Nazi. She isn't insisting anyone is going to hell, she isn't advocating rounding up anyone who is different and throwing them in camps, she's just expressing an opinion.

Certainly she says things to be provocative, and has been far more so in the past, but seriously, this isn't anti-Semitic, it isn't crazy, and it isn't remotely like the Nazis. It's opinion, and it can't possibly offensive to anyone who truly believes in the first amendment rights we have as Americans.

The spewing of Ann's "Rightness" and ego is not exactly what we recognize as " Christ Consciousness". I would truly love to see someone slap her "right" in the face.

ann should be complimented. she is just saying what other people think.

who is causing all the problems in the US congress? the traitors.

donny deutsch has always been an america hater.

the country is about 86% christian, let's have majority rule.

intolerant and non-judgmenatl are code words for showing weakness.

this country needs to be judgmental, that's why we have laws, and less tolerant of those who want to harm the US from within.

wake up before you get dusted by terrorists. they are extremely judgmental.
