Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

It's funny how she says "Tolerant christians" yet her comments contradict you as usual.

Why do they even let this nutcase get on TV? I seriously think she has some sort of mental defect.

Jason, this proves the point that education can't make a stupid person smart. She may have held positions that would ordinarily connote intelligence, but all we need do is look at the presidency to see that that's not necessarily indicative. The U.S. that Coulter wants to defend is the fantastical (fanatical) Christian nation, not the U.S. delineated by our Constitution.

I'm a woman and I think she's a complete embarrassment to our gender.

She's disgusting. I'll bet she's really a man, if someone did research.

    Wow, shock-ah..

Every single comment published on a CNN blog is a leftist hate-smear.

What were the chances of that?

I understand we have freedom of speech in our great country. And bigoted, racists; anti-Semitic losers like Ann Coulter have the right to spew their venom. But if her warped sense of reality spurs on others to denounce, hate, attack and possibly harm and kill other groups, then her acts may become criminal.

If the right wing element in our country doesn’t denounce and forever distance and abandon this persons evil thoughts, then they will be complacent and obviously accept her views.

The Nazi party convinced the German masses to hate, condemn and eventually kill the Jewish race.

Why do I feel like our country is traveling back in time to the 1930’s and 40’s.

Her views are now comparable to that of the Iranian President.

If she and the right wing didn’t hate the Arabs, Iranians and Blacks with such vigor, the Jewish people would have been wiped out by now.

This person needs to be stopped.

This womam is a one person circus freak show. It is rather obvious that she shoots off her mouth because she knows it will make her a buck. If you guys would stop inviting her, listening to her rodent crap, she would disappear.....wouldn't that be nice?

I find Ann entertaining at times, but these comments are ridiculous. Christians are on the "Fast track"...is intended to be funny, but it really is not.

It is people like Ms. Coulter who make America the racist, intolerant nation the world (non-white and non-Christian) fears.

Education does not translate into tolerance. It just means she spent more time in school.
Her comments were not intently placed to cause controversy, those are obviously her true beliefs that slipped out. Her rigid idealism is showing true and sadly this 'holier than thou' attitude is shared by many in this Christian nation. Of course, they won't admit it in public. She would fit in well here in Mississippi.

This girl, ann coulter, is really weird. What about Jesus, the King of the Jews? Ann coutler would have done well In Germany during the 30's-40's and then she would have been deposed at end of War Two. Fraulein Coulter no more.

Ann could probably care less about this topic. The only thing that gets her attention is by being contrary and that's how she makes money.

Simple as that. There's no truth to her statements because there's no commitment to them. Why can't everyone see through her propaganda? I just don't know.

Why would anybody be suprised that she is wildly anti-semetic ? Its like people being suprisedby David Duke being racist, she is a hate monger. Like most of the GOP she hates everything about America, the right wing in the US is so close in its views to the islamic fundamentalists: anti-gay, anti-jew, anti-freedom, anti-constitution, in favor of religious government, in favor of war, its the same for Coulter and the GOP as it is for Bin Laden.

I hate myself for responding to this because its exactly what she wants me to do...but here goes. Ann Coulter is what's wrong with American media. She's a smart woman who has discovered that as long as she makes provocative statements she will get media attention which can be parlayed into celebrity and wealth. The more provocative her statements, the brighter her star shines. She has little honor, respect or integrity but that's our problem – not hers. We react to her statements and our reaction makes her stronger. I feel sick.

Jon (above) from Sacramento has it right. She is saying what she believes and intends no ill will.

She adheres to a religion that finds fault with other dogmas and is speaking from within the confines of her world view.

Why should people believe any religious bronze-age nonsense at all? Except for the willingness to use violence there isn't much difference between Ann Coulter and Osama bin Laden. Each believes their version of some lunacy. Religious Jews are of course included among the "fidels" (Castro excluded) and they are already "perfected" as far as I am concerned. People, get a grip!

Ann Coulter is about as credible as Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann. Translation: WHO CARES. You're just giving her more publicity for her next trash novel.

Wow, she's an idiot. No wonder intelligent humans hate her so much.

Like all moral conservatives, she wants to tear away the separation of church and state and impose her beliefs upon everyone. Why can't people be satisfied with who they are, leave the rest of us to live our lives and let god do the judging?

Exactly, there is no link between being intelligent and religion. Christians do believe that ultimately all Jews need to convert. She is just telling it, like it is.

She has lost her mind! I don't know of a Christian that is true and humble in their faith to even consider themself as "perfected". Jesus is the only one perfect.
