Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Very well put, Jonathan from Hattiesburg.

Coulter was just another rather smart conservative pundit until she noticed that being shocking garnered more air time than being smart.

So she recreated herself as the right wing's Howard Stern–all calculated shock and no substance. And to our culture's (and our media's) shame, it works for her: if you think about it, the only time you see her name is when she mouths some ever more stunningly inflammatory blather.

I say we all get together and ignore her. Sooner or later, she'll give up. It worked when my two-year-old was calling me "poopyhead," and I'm pretty sure he's the smarter of the two.

If Ann Coulter considers herself a good Christian and good Christians believe in an after life, she should consider arranging her own travel there.

I can't believe this psuedo human being is even given a platform when so many others who have far more interesting things to say aren't.

The world would be a better place without anti-semite Ann Coulter. She has become so desperate for attention. What hole did she come out of?...it is time to find it so we can put her back in it for good and cap it.

to clarify regarding the comment made by Jon from Sacramento, traditional Jewish faith does not recognize Jesus as a prophet

Never forget: Christianity is just a cult like any other, a cult that (unlike most modern cults) managed to gain a following of billions. The parallels between Christ (and his apostles) and other charismatic cult leaders of the modern day is quite clear for anyone open-minded enough to examine them.

The world would be better off without any religion at all (Christians, Jews, Muslims... despite the differences they all basically the same misguided beliefs). We should be focusing our energies on bettering ourselves, and discovering the true origins of humanity and life on Earth.

One does not need to be Jewish to be offended! As a Protestant Christian I am also offended, and sadly this is not the first time.

How to make America better? Deal with the real issues, and don't pay any attention to the shrill divisive voices whose primary intent is to gain notice for themselves.

This piece of trash needs to be pulled off the air, papers, anything and she needs to spend a week in a concentration camp for what she said, Myself being Jewish would like to backhand her and give her a piece of my mind, this is her being ignorant just like Imus, fire her and blackball her from all aspects of normal life

When she said that she wants America to look like the Republican convention, she meant she wanted America to be white people with money. That's what the reporter should have focused on.

As a Christian I am personally offended. This woman has no clue what Christianity is and she has no business speaking on our behalf. She actually was more offensive to Christians than Jews as she misrepresented Christianity. Jews should laugh at her and blow her off because her comments don't matter.

Jon from Sacto is a complete loser and probably an anti-semite himself. Don't be an apologist big guy. Admit that a conservative can actually be a bad person.

I am Roman Catholic and we treat Jewish people as our brothers and sisters. Also, no Christian is perfect– and I'll quote Ann, "Christ died for our sins." Our means all of us, hence we are not perfect. Yes, evangelization is a tenet of our faith, but so is the commandment of love thy neighbor.

This woman needs to get laid. Her lack of sex is making her even more stupid, even by right-wingie / redneck standards.

She sounds like a militant Muslim actually, typical "compassionate Conservative" Republican talk.

Ann Coulter was simply being a "good Christian" in the most fundamental manner. As a result, she will probably get away with this comment unscathed – as she has time and again after spewing similar vicious drivel. Really, this mistress of hate doesn't deserve any air time.

Coulter is probably the one behind the recent racist and antisemitic acts at Columbia University. She has aged quite a bit in a short time; she is beginning to look a lot like Dick Cheney.

I just love how Deutsch was like

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you?"

that's fricken hilarious! But seriously though, yeah she does it on purpose. I don't know, maybe she has one of those mental disorder where she needs attention and people to pity her so she acts all stupid and anti-semitic.
An Anti-semitic man would be met with anger, but since she's a anti-semitic man/woman she gets pity. Well, now that I think about it, she also gets pity for just being a man/woman.

I desperately hope no one, especially practicing Christians take Ms. Coulter seriously. If Mr. Hannity and such think Ms. Coulter is patriotic, I feel sorry for those people. In my opinion, she is anything but patriotic. She is a harmful agent for the U.S interest, for Christianity and above all for humanity. Her only purpose is to promote herself. Even Jerry Springer makes more sense. Only other thing I can think of (no offense or joke intended), she is severely brain damaged.

I love USA and the world.

Who cares what Ann Coulter thinks. Can anyone tell me who she is exactly? A writer? An educator? Just a self-promoter? What has she done for the world other than making idiotic and inflammatory remarks that are absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things? Who cares if she is an anti-semite. The bigger question in my mind is why is she on television?

i cant remember for sure, but isn't Islam based on both Christianity and Judaism (among other things of course)? meaning by extension, that converted Muslims are perfected Christians?

The true spirit of Christianity is not accepting anything. It is doing what was taught by Jesus...you Christians remember him? Do unto others. Nothing more. That is the ultimate commandment. Anything else, and you disregard and diminish everything Jesus suffered and died for.

Ok, so Christians believe that Christ died for us, Jewish people don't believe that the Messiah has come yet. So what she says is true, in a sense, Christians could be called perfected Jews, if any of Christianity is true. If not, then it doesn't make any difference, except to sell papers and sell ads online. Muslims, believe that the Quran is the "last testament" Which sets them apart from Christians and Jews as well. Who is right? Guess we will see sometime in the future. Ms Coulter is controversial, but she isn't anti semitic,or she would be out there tryng to get everyone except blondes exterminated. Political Correctedness is BS, and you all know it. We all can't be right, which is what PC is aiming at. Somebody has to be wrong, even if it hurts your feelings. Grow up. I saw nothing or heard nothing that said anything about getting rid of anyone, let alone Jewish people. If Joe Biden, or Hillary said the same thing, you all would be touting them as geniuses.

No wonder why Bill Mahr hates Christianity. If I dated Ann Coulter, I'd be scarred for life too. The taste in his mouth must've been so bad, he was forced to cut his tounge out of it.
