Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Some people say I am liberal and some say I am conservative. It drives me nuts when people try to bucket and split people this way. Opinions are complicated and debate should match. My issue with Ms. Coulter is she preaches a very simple opinion and argument and does not allow for nuance and discussion. She judges a person from the first few words someone says. Fundamentally she destroys true honest discussion on complicated issues. I wish she would use her intelligence more affectively than dividing this country and making debate a juvenile exercise.

I think Ann has gone a little too far with this one, and if you saw it on TV, I think you can tell she realized she had gone too far. I never saw her try to backup the way she did. Trouble ahead for her.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention some excellent sarcasm directed toward CNN:

"Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments..."

I am just SHOCKED!. I mean Ann COULTER MIGHT be in the midst of a controversy?!!? It's ALL the woman DOES!

Sorry CNN, that was kinda redundant.

The Gospel of Christ is foolishness to those who are perishing.
The Bible, and especially the New Testament, explains how to get to Heaven. It doesn't say that you HAVE to go. However, it you don't want to go to Heaven, dress lightly; you won't need the jacket.

Ann Coulter is an ignorant, insensitive, crazy, anti-Semitic human being. Ann get off your pulpit and remember this: If we are all created in Gods own image, than God has many faces, though He is One, therefore, together we must all be one. Get off your holier than thou trip. Christian, Jews, Muslims, Buddist and all other religions exist whether you like it or not, not one better than the other. It's a personal choice you moron.

And Muslims seem to consider themselves perfected beyond Jews and Christians. Believe whatever you want, but how about live and let live?

This woman is insane and her views are just extreme. Just look at some of the extreme right wing governments in history...and currently. Wacko and scary.

What "laws" do Christians follow? They have thrown aside the laws of the Old Testament–Kashruth, Sabbath, etc. Certainly it is easier to be Christian–you can do anything at all–including murder–then go to church and say you are sorry, and be forgiven. Being Jewish takes work. Christianity isn't "The Fast Track", it's "Judaism Light" without any of the sacrifice demanded by true faith. I don't think Ann Coulter is either funny or to be taken lightly; not when she has such a platform. I think she is vile and offensive and incites racial, ethnic, and religious hatred. Ann Coulter's very existence is a hate crime.

This just continues to show the ignorance and intolerance of the neocon voices like Coulter. She is the source of more divisive, intolerant, ignorant and bigoted commentary than anything on the progressive side of the aisle.

Oh Wow, once again Ms. Coulter takes my breath away. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I am embarrassed and sigh with incredible disbelief at her lack of graceful theology, her poor testimony to a loving God, and her absent humility. You can bet this is NOT what Jesus would do........

Ann Coulter should be fired and banned from all network interviews. She is a complete racist. Her comments are worse than that of Don Imus. Anti semetism is a world problem and her comments only add fuel to the problem.

Please – the only thing Coulter has perfected is how to create buzz around her latest wacked-out book.

Of course, if I was an emaciated, bitter, angry & offensive woman, I'd probably cling to a religion that promised absolute forgiveness too. Especially for the sins of hate mongering, anti-semitism, anti-islamism and crimes against fashion.

I used to half-jokingly call Ann Coulter the "Eva Braun" of the hard right. It appears now that I am sadly right on target.

Being "too educated" has nothing to do with how good or evil you are. Are we to assume that there have never been any morally corrupt people graduating with honors at Harvard? Yeesh...too educated.

HA HA HA. "Let the liberals commence attacking her."

Apparently Liberal means smart in your neck of the woods. This is not conservative commentary, this is the idiocy that Ann Coulter uses to line her own pockets.

"Perfected Christians"? What the hell...? Has she even read the Bible? Does she not even understand the word of God? The concept of humility?

Get thee to a nunnery, and stop hi-jacking my conservative movement.

I would get upset at these ridiculous remakrs from Anne Coulter but look at the source. Anne Coulter is obviously not very well educated if she holds these bizarre beliefs. Then again, this is the woman who tried to tell a Canadian reporter that Canada had joined the US in the Vietnam War. Even a child in Canada knows their history better than her.

How this woman even gets any media coverage is beyond me...I've heard more insightful commentaries from a brick.

Hey Jon from Sacto – she is not an implant from a different country, she is American. We aren't misunderstanding her, she is crazy. If you think she is being misunderstood, don't you think she should know better than to phrase things the way she does? Or, maybe, she is just crazy. Liberal or not, I think a lot people think she is a little off.

I think it's pretty obvious she was baiting the hypersensitive.

All religious people believe their own way is best.

Does the term "chosen people" ring any bells?

when you get a dingbat fascist bombo of a female to make comments, this is what you get. Deutch, a Jew, was expecting her to bash Islam only and found that the airhead antisemitic (jews and arabs, for those who are still clueless to the true meaning of semite) is actuallt white supremacist wh*re!
