Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

In response to an earlier comment Judaism does not recognize Jesus as a prophet of any sort as he is not a part of Jewish faith.

At some point I refuse to believe that this woman is actually this intolerant/ignorant. These comments are meant to garner her more attention, a trap that CNN seems more than willing to fall in.

I am a Jew and I am offended.

I cannot for the life of me understand why the media continues to give this woman the air time to spout her ridiculous rhetoric.

It would be such a breath of fresh air if the media would turn their focus to the positive people of the world, the heroes - the Al Gores of the world. The ones who try to make a positive affect - not the ones who try to stir up anti-semtic sentiments and the uneeded hate.

Not now - not in the world we live in with Osama, Iran, the terrorist cells and the Rush Limbaughs of the world.

The easiest way to silence this issue is by not giving her air time.

I hope the Anti-Defamation League actually do something useful for once and pick this woman apart.

Why should she not say this? Honestly think about it. Did she not give a perfect caricture of Christianity and its tenets here? Yes, by not being politically correct about what she really believes one can really see the sheer stupidity and intolerance of what it REALLY means to be Christian. Judiasm (God promised us a patch of desert in the middle east, who cares how much conflict it costs...it's our divine destiny) and Islam (kill, persecute, and subjugate all non-believers and heretics) don't get a pass either.

I have a profound sense of respect for the verbal garbage spoken by the Jerry Falwell's, Ayatollah Khomeini's, and Ann Coulter's of the world. At least they are being honest with themselves and have actually read their religious edicts...no matter how ignorant their intolerant comments are.

Most people want to overlook that the Old Testament, New Testament, and Qur'an actually teach these ludicrous things.

Deutsch needs to get a sense of humor and a life...he knows who he is dealing with so why have her on the show?
I find his being offended ridiculous.

Yes, she is intelligent. However, that does not mean she is not psychotic. Ann Coulter has gone over the edge of extreme.

    Ann Coulter is psychologically disturbed.

Ann, although stumbling a bit through her reasoning, is right! Jesus Christ said, I am the way turht and life, no man comes unot the Father except through me". Why do you think they crucifiued Him. Because He offended them about Himself being the "Christ".

If those prideful educrats were truly intellectually sincere they would investigate Christ's claims. In the Bible and history. There are no disputes.

The onus is on the skeptic. Can you disprove the resurrection? If not you should be concerned.

I find little difference between Religious Conservatives who preach Christian supremacy and the Islamic Extremists who preach Muslim supremacy. For a country founded upon the ideals of religious tolerance, it's ironic that some Americans can have such a narrow-minded view.

I'll agree that Coulter is just doing this to sell books, but the result is to further a mindset of non-tolerance that benefits no-one.

    So...
Is this the moment when someone actually slapps the piss out of her, or is she going to continue to let that deseased tongue of hers flap in the wind ?

How in the hell is she famous ?
How in God's name can she continue to be allowed to spew the garbage she has allthese years ?
Well, if Bush and his Mother can do it, so should she...

You are mistaken to think or say that traditional Jewish Faith recognizes Jesus as a "prophet". There is no such affirmation in any traditional Jewish text that I know of.

On the other hand, I think that most traditional Jews would agree that Ann Coulter is a loon!

Well, coming from a blonde-haired, blue-eyed...wait a minute. That reminds me of something, what is it? Starts with an "A(ryan)". Oh yeah! I remember from my history lessons generations ago. We should send dear Ms.Coulter some black-and-white photos of days gone by.

"Christ died for our sins" is not what Jesus named as the Great Commandments.

Ms. Coulter needs a quick refresher to get her back on that fast track to heaven.

    Heaven help her.

It is a demonstrable and significant fact that most Jews prefer to live in Christian countries. That's where they are. And many Israelis are emigrating to the United States.

Stop the knee-jerk reaction and listen to what she's actually saying. I don't know why anyone who claims to be open-minded would be offended by that... she's pretty much on the money in her description of the differences in the two faiths. I don't really like the term "fast-track" but that's just me. Everybody wants to get offended about stuff because it sells ads... get a grip, folks.
