Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

I hate to say it but she may not be joking. She may believe this.

Thank God for people like Ann. She is so incredibly vicious and ignorant, doesn't have a clue about the Bible she likes to thump, and screeches from a national platform that she is the best advertising people of reason and conscience could ask for. A perfect representation of the religious wrong. She ranks right up there with Fred Phelps.

I think Hitler was the last person to want to "purify" the jews. Why is this bigot allowed on the air time and time again without someone on the opposite extreme to debate w/ her?

She should just skip the hassle of saying shocking things to get attention and do a full frontal for Playboy. Sure hope the curtains match the drapes, but impossible to know...I don't think anyone's been down there since the cold war.

Why is this a story? Anyone who doesn't believe their own religion is the best is in the wrong religion.

Hate is what you get when hate is what you speak. I believe that Jesus would not share the same thoughts and feelings as Ann Coulter. She should be ashamed of herself.

And this surprises people? This isn't the first time Coulter has openly advocated a Christian-only America (or world for that matter - even scarier). Being 'highly educated' doesn't ensure intelligence or respect. A bigot is still a bigot, with or without a law degree and published books. Want her bigotry to stop? Then stop giving this foolish size zero piece of crap a voice on our airwaves. WE ARE too intelligent to have to listen to her.

I believe there was another historical figure that had similar views about the Jewish religion... His name was Adolf and he was one of the most reviled persons in recent history. If Ann keeps this up much longer, she might begin to believe what she preaches and carve out a nice spot next to Hitler's. It amazes me that people still listen to this closed minded, attention-seeking bigot.

It's funny because no matter what she says it will be perceived as offensive. The media is just waiting for her to say something scandalous. I really don't think she meant to offensive...at least in this case.

Actually what she says is partially true – she just doesn't know how to express it. A Jew that believes in Jesus Christ is a "perfected Jew". People tend to forget that Jesus was Jewish. He is the Messiah that Jews have been waiting for and some just haven't accepted.

She should just stick to politics since she doesn't know how to explain Christianity.

Just to clarify what Jon from Sacramento said: Traditional Jewish belief does not recognize Jesus as a prophet. At best he would be seen as a misguided person with an apocalyptic vision and who made an attempt at reforming religious practice.

What's the big deal? She wants everyone to be Christian. She wants Jews to believe in the New Testament. This is someone that wishes everyone were Christian. *yawn*

Last time I checked we still had some freedom of speech. You don't have to like what she says, but you MUST respect her right to say it. Those of you saying she should be "locked up" are, at the core, far less "diversity minded" then she. Diversity is a two way street, it entails the respect of views that you don't like, even ones that are narrow minded.

Ann Coulter is a book peddler. The more outrageous things she says, the more books she sells. If you are going to be mad, be mad at the idiots who buy her books and keep her in business.

Jon in Sacramento just makes me feel better...knowing that he's the feeble minded moron that she caters to. Liberals? Deutch? Dumba**....he's as conservative as they come, he's just not a GD nazi like she is. If she stepped in front of a truck driven by a "liberal jew" all would be right with the world.

She's right in terms of what we believe. She's not being offensive. He may take it as offensive, and I understand his opinion, but she was not being offensive. Any Christian should know that what she said is what we believe. It's in the Bible, in case one wants to look it up.

    "Ann, you ignorant slut."

Dan Akroyd would've had a field day with ol' Ms. Hitler on SNL.

I love this. Geez, but the Republican right is imploding. Why not just call yourselves the Ku Klux Klan? Or the Homosexual-Hating Homosexuals?

The Marx Brothers couldn't be doing a better job in ensuring a Democrat is the next president.

    Hilarious.
