Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Oh look! Another extreme conservative who believes her religious beliefs are the "correct" and perfected way of thinking.

Someone please stop printing what she thinks...

It is the 'tolerant' Christians like Ann Coulter that make Jews like me nauseous. She may want me as a Christian but I'm grateful she's a gentile. I don't want to switch and she can't, thank God.

I have no wish to attack Ann Coulter; I'm simply bored with her. Maybe we can apply Premier League rules to our national pundits - Ann's been coming off as a little desperate for attention lately, so we'll just send her down to World Net Daily for a well needed rest, and promote a fresh face like Michael Medved to take her place. Win-win!

What are we to think of a person whose career is based entirely on being as offensive as possible? Are the people who provide Ms. Coulter a forum any better than she is?There is a word which describes Ms. Coulter perfectly, and it rhymes with "bunt".

How amazingly idiotic. She must really hate Christians to want to make them look this bad.

Christians are perfected Jews just like how Vista is perfected XP. hahaha. Wow, she can't really believe this, I agree with Deutsch.

Jon, most Jews do not recognize Jesus as a prophet. I'll recognize him as a man who lead a good and honorable life, but that's about it.

Yes, many Christian denominations believe in evangelism, but so did ancient Judaism and Islam. Just because certain things were once part of a religion does not mean that they should be in a multi-religious society.

Frankly, it is insulting to Jews, or to any non-Christian, to be told that our religious beliefs aren't "perfect."

Off microphone, did she also say to Don Imus (wherever he is), "I'll see your 'Nappy headed ho's.' and raise you a Perfect Jew!"? She's no a humorist, she's a sociopathic passive-aggressive personality. It’s in her facial expressions and body language. She should be locked away for everyone’s protection. Free speech is one thing, but intentional incitement and antagonism in this society, under the law, is not without its risks.

When is she going to shut up and go away. She is completely offensive and ridiculous. Book smart, maybe, but a total idiot about life. I really cannot stand her.

Ms. Coulter is a superficial, pop culture personality who is masquerading as a political commentator. Like many today, her stock and trade is to attract attention to herself by delivering well-timed, shockingly crude statements, usually (as now) when she has a new book to sell. When she was on a recent talk show, she giggled like a brat while sputtering "wait until you hear what I am going to say next".

    A harmless lightweight.

Ann Coulter and the Christian Right should be embarrased to claim to reflect the life or teachings of Christ. Mother Teresa, with all her honesty about the struggles of faith and living it out, is a better representative.
This bumper sticker wisdom applies-"The Christian Right are neither."

Why do you give her a platform? Is that all someone has to do is keep repeating stupid remarks, acting outlandish and generally being a buffon all it takes???
Then anyone that hasn't figured her for a buffon acts outraged.
She's a buffon what do you expect. Has she ever said anything that a wise man would listen to? She's a buffon lets leave her at that.

This poor, dear, Twiggy-Trollop is so insecure that she resorts to shock-jock tactics to get attention.

It's a shame that she wastes her intelligence performing such uneducated childish antics. Giving her air time only stimulates her quest for notoriety.

If it looks like a nincompoop, talks like a nincompoop and walks like a nincompoop– then she's a nincompoop! Why try to defend this idiocy? It's nothing new out of this attention grabbing "needy" sideshow of the biased right agenda. Her stupid "truths" keep tumbling out of her mouth and because she attended Cornell and edited the law review, she is supposed to get some credit? Duh? She's bankrupt. Again, she is a maladapted sideshow!

Ann was specifically asked what her idea of a perfect world would be. She gave her opinion in direct response to the question. It was her opinion, and she is certainly entitled to it.

Upset or not, it is a basic tenet of Christian faith that we are to aspire to be like Christ; that is, to become sanctified. Unfortunately, not one of us has attained Christ's perfection. There is no doubt that Jews are God's chosen people. But because they refused to believe in Christ's deity, gentiles were grafted onto the tree of eternal life through belief in Jesus as the son of God. All perfected Jews would by definition be Christians, but alas there are no perfected Christians. If Christians were perfect, then there would have been no need for Christ to offer himself as a blood sacrifice for our sins.

Has everyone forgotten about the Apostle Paul? If so, read the book of Acts and his subsequent letters.

It's refreshing that there is a brave soul who just speaks her mind. No offense should be taken. After all, she did not call anyone names unlike some other talk show hosts. To be honest, I kind of agree with her. And for crying out loud, she is in show biz. Think about it, if she was so proper, would you be paying attention to her?

Wow. I knew Ann was a psycho, but this takes the cake. Shock jock or not – She has to realize that this is going to get her banned from everything except a guest spot on Rush Limbaugh's show.....
