Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

WOW...I'm a christian and I'm highly offended too. By her ignorance. I'm really not sure if her statement is more anti-christian or anti-sementic, I don't think she understands either faith.

"They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America."

As an LGBT person, I can tell you Christians on the whole are not tolerant. They are only tolerant of those who are very similar to them.

"Deutsch said he was personally offended."

I find Donny Deutsch's being offended by basic Christian beliefs to be rather silly. Jews essentially believe the same thing in reverse. Big deal. All religions profess to be the one true religion.

The part he should be offended about was throwing Judaism away as if it were worthless garbage. That and the bit about "we should all be Christian".

I should be what I believe is right for me, not what Coulter believes is right for me.

I love it when people read into comments from wonderful women such as Ann Coulter and give them their own personal slant just because they don't have the intelligence to understand what it is that is being said. I thank God that I have more common sense than these idiots!

Why is this woman given air time? She is an embarrassing, irrelevant, limelight grabbing waste of space. Her opinions are farcical. The woman is not so far removed from Britney Spears, with all those desperate attempts to remain in the eye of the public. Please, stop giving this house fire any oxygen.

Why does this person have an audience? Why should anyone take what she says as important or thought provoking. Who cares if it's coming from a liberal/conservative talking head- it's just crazy. The right will say she's correct & misunderstood or that the left is just attacking her.

Who cares what political affiliation she is? It's just a continual exhibit of someone who makes foolish statements. It's like a child- quit giving attention to the inappropriate behavior and it goes away.

I have come to believe that everything she says is trash because she is trash. If she is such an authority on religion and salvation, she would be a preacher or something instead of babbling like an idiot. Besides Jesus died also to fulfill the Jewish law, so maybe she should trade one of her books for a bible that has the new testament also. You know, one that has that part about, "love your neighbor as yourself"

Coulter's comments are every bit as outrageous at Iman's. Responsible media should ignore insignificant sources that seek headlines by promoting divisiveness and hate.

I would like to apologize for buying this woman's books. I guess we all make mistakes in life. For god (yes I mean to use a lowercase so Ann can uderstand what I mean) sakes don't admit, claim to be, or use the word Christian in a document that has your name in it. I think the Republicans have enough trouble without you talking!!

Coulter is an idiot, whom only the uneducated pay attention to or put any stock in anyway...

Why do people in media keep putting her inane comments in print, or allow her on the air at all...

"Traditional Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a prophet but not a savior." Sorry, no, it doesn't. Keep your Jesus to yourselves. For Jews, 'Jesus' meant for about 1700 years ghettoization, massacre, laws against holding jobs or living in many places, etc.

Why do we care what Ann Coulter says? Why does the media insist on covering her? She says what she says and does what she does because it makes her money. The more outrageous the headline, the more money she makes.

Please, CNN, stop giving her the headlines she desperately craves.

Wow. Shocker. Ann Coulter is a bigot. Stop the presses.
And now all the "good, tolerant Christians" will come out of the woodwork to say "she's just got the guts to say". Jesus (if I may say), am I sick of this hideous woman.

Christians consider themselves "Perfected Jews?" I never heard anything remotely like that in 16 years of Catholic education. As a Christian, that comment disgusts me. I was always taught respect for the Jewish faith and other faiths.

Last time I checked, Jesus was Jewish. Regardless of that, who has the audacity to say that another religion needs to change to be "perfected"?

Anne Coulter's comments are disgusting and are an affront to Jews, obviously, and to us Christians who have respect and affection for our Jewish brethren.

Why does this racist still have a national forum?

    She is just plain dumb!

It is difficult for me to believe that a person calls herself a "Christian" while preaching this kind of smut. If this is where "christianity" is headed, the human race is in trouble. Since when is it "Christian" to disseminate hate messages and to target specific groups of people for "perfecting"? Sounds very much like Hitler's messages about ethnic cleansing, as well as similar messages that contemporary dictators are sending out to us all. These kinds of people are very dangerous and should be watched very carefully, in order to protect humanity.
