Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Sure, Coulter is a smart person who's entitled to her opinion. I give her credit, she voiced her opinion although unpopular. Good for her and to hell with "religio-political correctness." What, she's supposed to be wrong or sorry for what she said ??? Give me a break, welcome to the land of free speech.

PLEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZ! The truth is coming to the light, the veils are being lifted, and it's turning out that the "Christians" are no better or different than anyone else, most are sinners just in hiding, i.e., ministers and politicians indulging in homosexual activities and prostitution...10,000 phone #s on the DC Madam's phone records, etc. So what about that? Convenient Christianity I say!? Everyone is a heathen at heart...here's to the sinners!

I know she thinks alot about politics, but she obviously hasn't spent much time thinking about theology. Christianity and Judaism have both been misrepresented. I hate it when these two beautiful faiths become tarnished by the world of politics.

Can this woman even hear herself speak?
She goes around flaunting all of her "godliness" like she is above the entire world. To Jon in Sacramento: its not just the liberals "attacking" her. Its the truly righteous people in this world who don't try and force their beliefs on others and who accept those for who they are. And unless we stop going around trying to convert those of different beliefs, our country will continue down this horrendous path of segregation and hate.

Jon, people like yourself and Ms. Coulter never cease to amaze me. Not only are you ignorant, but you are dangerous and it is because of you and people like you that this world is so screwed up. Your rhetoric and single mindedness is no better than the fundamental terrorists who target this great nation of ours. It's mind boggling that the far right can take a religion like Christianity and twist it in such grotesque ways. Shame on you.

Anne Who? Why do news networks feed this woman's propaganda? Who cares what she thinks? Who listens to an ignorant, biased, beligerant run away frothing lip? She has a greater global minority than the Republicans.

The number of comments here should speak volumes to her credibility and popularity. Zero on all counts.

    Next.

Ann Coulter is obviously mentally ill and delusinal and people are still constantly inviting her to their talk shows. It is beyond comprehension. How about instead having an intervention, and getting her some professional help.

Fast track to WHAT? There is no such thing as salvation, being saved. It's all man made created nonsense. The Bible is the most corrupted, forged, and error filled book in human history. As an "educated" woman she should know that. I am NOT an athiest but I don't believe in man created fairy tales either.

I'm a Christian, but I've never considered myself a "Pefected Jew." I'm not perfect at anything. Futhermore, I'm not sure I want the world to be overrun with "Christians." I've meet too many of our kind that make me sick.

It would be great though if more people were practicing the kinds of things that Jesus did.

Jon, for the record, Judaism, (excepting 'Jews for Jesus'), does not recognize Jesus as either a prophet or savior. On an academic level, he is considered a person of religious and historical importance, but he does not have a role in the Jewish belief system.

Yeah, wow, ok, it's not a far step from believing to enforcing, say, via Christian versions of the concentration camp, is it? So folks like Ann Coulter would wear the jackboots and gibber in tongues every sunday morning while Jews were butchered until they became, oh what's the word, "perfected"? I think I'll preemtively start wearing a Star of David on my shirt. "The Good Jew." Whew! Glad that's settled!

Wait, wait, wait... I am anything but a fan of Ann Coulter, but attacking her for these statements is a shining example of our ultra-PC culture. Really, what religious individual wouldn't want the rest of the world's population to accept their religion? Of course all Christians should want everyone else to be Christian, and the same goes for any other religion – according to their respective doctrines it is usually the only path to salvation. Calling Culter's comments intolerant and uneducated is calling the vast majority of religious individuals intolerant and uneducated. I'm not sure that's a leap most Americans are willing to take.

I'm sorry, but being a five-minute anti-Semite is inexcusable. She's just a circus barker looking to make a buck and a name for herself by spewing ignorance. Don't patronize her output, and she'll go away soon enough.

But, then again, he was a jew. So he wasn't "perfected" yet.

I wish that half of the brain power used in giving idiotic interviews like this could be spent trying to figure out a solution to some of the issues facing this country. She is not a genius or a political consultant...she just strives to shock the public by making unintelligent statements. Only, unlike many of today's celebrities who like to shock and get attention, she leaves her panties on.
