Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

This has nothing to do with liberal-conservative or educated-uneducated. Ann Coulter has proven time and again that she's an intolerant bigot. That she likes to stir the pot and get attention is beside the point.

Without a doubt she has crossed the line and nees to be black-listed by the media and Fox news that supports her views.

Somehow she has gotten things twisted. The problem is that she is not educated. Sounds just like good ole red neck talk to me.

Why does anyone interview this woman as though she's a deep political thinker or someone who "matters" when it comes to anything important? She's just a conservative, female Howard Stern wannabe. I wish she'd just get it over with the next time she's on television and just start jumping up and down on top of her chair with clown makup on while screaming racial slurs and nursry rhymes. Then maybe everyone will realize the Anne Coulter we all "know" is just a character, not a person. Deutsch might as well have been interviewing Bugs Bunny.

Ann Coulter is simply "hot." She feeds off everyone's anxiety. Keep talking and bowing down to her, and she grows stronger. Go Ann go....

Humans have messed up the world despite their religious beliefs and because of their religious beliefs. Instead of preaching, we should turn our focus on Mother Earth, the planet that God gave us to live upon. She needs help from all and she doesn't care which religion you believe.

Jon from Sacramento...I am not sure which traditional Jewish faith you are talking about, but mine does not recognize Jesus as a profit. I will not be as callous as to put forth one opinion that "Traditional" Jews share about Jesus, but in the majority of, if not all of, the cases he is not recognized as a prophet. I am in no way liberal, but I am shocked by Coulter's statements. I am not offended because her opinions are her own. However, I am frightened that some one say such things to the American people (whom may not always understand what is offensive and not or what is opinion as opposed to fact), in front of a member of the Jewish religion, who stated openly that he was offended, and continue defend it.

Man Coulter is scum. It makes no difference whether he/she was saying these hurtful comments as "shock", to sell books, whatever. "It" is scum. Pure and simple. Anyone that finds "it" humerous should be forced to see her in various state of undress. By the way, G-d is Jewish. We are the chosen. Not my rules. Just the way it is. We were around first. Good luck with that man-beast-thing in your "religion." Peace, I'm outta here!

"Traditional Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a prophet but not a savior."

Uh, no, Jon. Islam considers Jesus to be a prophet. Jews, if they think about him at all, consider him to be just another Jew.

As for Ann Coulter, she makes her living running her mouth, just like a number of other public figures I could name....

I guess this lady is mad because she understands that jews already dominate the US economy and politics and this has dragged the US to a confrontation with the Islamic World.

I dont normally like anything she says, however when I read the transcript it seemed obvious that she wasnt trying to be offensive. She was just explaining the difference between jewish and Christain beliefs. I am glad she did, because I have been confused about it for years.

Please readers, I beg of you, please do not think Ann Coulter speaks for all Christians. I am a Christian. I attended a conservative evangelical Methodist seminary, and her words are abhorrent to me in every way.

Hypocrisy alert! If a muslim or jew were to say what Coulter did, this would be a nonarticle.

If a Muslim man said the same as Coulter and Deutsch responded "It would be better if we were all Muslim?", he would most likely say the same as Coulter and no one would think twice.

I'm none of these religions. I am however tired of hearing whining when someone professes a belief or takes a stand and then someone cries "I've been offended!" and then that person is expected to be apologetic. The people of our country have lost their backbone. If you believe something different, believe it and profess it. If you don't agree with another, then just agree to disagree but stop whining.

So, if Jewish people need to be "perfected" and convert to Christianity because our Christian belief in the New Testament trumps their covenant with God in the Old Testament does that mean that Christians need to convert to Islam in order to perfect their faith?

Before people get all upset – hear me out. One of the tenants of Islam is that God, or Allah, was distraught over the paths and liberties that His "children" had taken and wished to restore the true faith of His word. God chose Muhammad as the final prophet to bring this transformation about. Contrary to the beliefs of many, Islam embraces the teaching of Moses, Jesus, and other prophets or seers in the Bible but do not believe that any of these people are the one true word. The only true word is the Word of God.

So then Ms. Coulter do Christians such as yourself need to convert to Islam to "perfect" your faith?

Oh – and before I get flamed – I'm Methodist, born and raised, just like our VP and our (he converted when he married) Pres.

Jon from Sacramento, you are a well known Cheney/Bush apologist. I guess now we find you in the Coulter apologist camp. She said what she said, it wasn't the 'liberals' that made her say it.

Your ability to defend these intolerant individuals and their hate-speech is astonishing.

Wake up and smell the bigotry!

Just shoot her and put us all out of our misery. What a simple mind! For the record I am neither Christian nor Jew but a devout agnostic. For the benefit of all the other simple minds out there, no, I am not really advocating violence, its just a figure of speech.
