Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.
Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004
"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)
When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."
Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"
"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."
"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”
"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."
Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."
"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."
Deutsch said he was personally offended.
"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."
Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.
"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."
I absolutely agree with what Ms. Coulter said even though we know that it's impossible. The reason why it would be better if all Americans were Christians because these are the core of Christianity's values: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. But yet we do realize that we have to live like a dove among the wolfs. May God keep blessing us.
Hmmm...'building the perfect race'...where in history have we heard that one before? As a jew, this kind of commentary saddens me to the core – even if it is just an attention getter. Wow.
What a disgusting pig. To see that this came from someone who is respected in some way in the political world makes me absolutely sick. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who probably don't have a problem with what she said. Absolutely disgusting.
She's like the conservative movement's Paris Hilton. She stays relevant more because she's in the spotlight for making bonehead remarks. It's people like her that have destroyed the true Republican conservative movement and pushed it towards a conservative religious movement. I'll take my religion as I have always preferred it, without a politician's interference or endorsement.
This is just another attempt by the liberal media to throw jabs at conservative political commentators by taking what they say out of context in an attempt to smear them.
It didn't work with Rush and it won't work with Ann.
Nice try though.
we should crucify Ann Coulter for all of her sins...
Why any intelligent person would be interested in the drivel which freely spews from this woman's mouth is beyond my comprehension.
Coulter is a total whacko, and I have no idea why anyone would want to interview her on any show of any kind.
Why does CNN or anyone else think it's important to give her mindlessness free air time? That is being just as whacko as Coulter is.
It doesn't matter if Ann Coulter is joking or not. The kind of discourse she is offering to the American people is blatently confusing and divisive. It's the equivelent of Nathan Bedford Forrest doing stand-up comedy about killing black people but adding at the end of his jokes "just kidding folks". The difference is that Ann Coulter's audience actually believe in her rhetoric. It's unnecessary when America should stand united instead of agitating an unsound social faultline.
"Traditional Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a prophet but not a savior."
Really? This is news to me. Guess I should try to get a refund on my yeshiva tuition.
We'll she's stating as she's been told or brainwashed. She's clearly looking for some attention are just sitting on her "throne". Christians don't believe in the old testament, if they did, they wouldn't need a new one. She's just saying Christianity perfected G-D to their liking. That's absurd, but her opinon. Who cares.
Its Coulter what do you expect? Libs will continue to post her ridiculous comments thinking its going to have this huge impact on a Lib audience. its just beating a dead horse who cares.
Just another outrageous comment by one
who specializes in outrageous.
I don't understand the problem with what she said. She was asked questions and answered. Should she lie and say something just to make everyone else happy or say that she is Christian believes in her faith and thinks it is the best way. She didn't condemn any other religion just promote her own.
The Jewish rabbi only sued the airport because they put up Christmas trees put refused to put up a menorah. This all happened at the Seattle-Tacoma Int'l Airport. Big to do. Basically, the point was that the airport put up Christian symbols of the holiday but did not give fair airtime to other symbols for Kwanzaa and Chanukkah.
Why does the pagan/atheist left get upset if someone tells them they are going to hell, when they don't even believe in hell? Also, this must be exhibit No. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,001 of CNN and the rest of the pagan/atheist left demonstrating their complete ignorance of the Christian faith. As a Christian, why would Ann Coulter wish that the pagan left, the atheist left, the earth worshipping left, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, or members of any other faith remain committed to their faiths rather than convert to Christianity? Hint for the pagan/atheist left: Coulter wouldn't wish for such a thing, and she shouldn't wish for such a thing. Got it? Otherwise, she would call herself an atheist.
Presenting Ann Ahmadinejad.
The issue is not what Christians believe - believe whatever you want, that's the point of the United States. It IS offensive to say that America would be better if we were all Christian, and that Jews are imperfect. Clearly she has no idea what Christian tolerance really is. Additionally, I'm not totally convinced she's just doing this for sound bites.
Also note that claiming it would be better if we were all Christian is intolerant of many religions, not just Judaism. What an ignorant shell of a human being.
May be it's her that needs to be perfected, this world would be better off if there are less number of christians like her, justifying every possible means of helping others attain salvation, which in their book includes crusades, colonialism, war...
Will someone please stuff a rag in this bigots mouth? I think it will fit better than her constant placing of her foot in her mouth.
Why does anyone interview her? It is always the same hate speech toward anyone who does not fit her white christian life.
Perfection and Ann Coulter! ....she says and does nothing correct, is obsessed by her hatreds, a disgrace to Christians, an embarressment to America, and is in obvious need of deep psychiatric help....but she laughs all the way to the bank because people seem more interested in the weird and the bizarre than respectability and logic.
Is there any reason ANYBODY gives this hag any time at all? She is a true whacko in life..But I guess we need someone to laugh at.
"She doesn't mean it." Why say it then? It's tasteless. She may be educated, but she isn't very bright. She is delusional though... a fact substantiated by her useless comments and furthered by her religious beliefs.
Why do people keep buying into her? I'll never understand that. She makes these extreme statements because she knows she'll get her face on the news. She knows she'll get her books sold. That's all she's really interested. All networks, like CNBC, keep booking her as a guest because she brings her controversy and that scores ratings. Its all really silly when you think about it.
As an atheist, I think both sides in this need to get over themselves. Judaism isn't some free-ride ticket to being offended by someone else's dogmatic idiocy. Nor does Christianity give you some moral high ground from which to brow-beat the American people without shenanigans being called on you. I for one don't see how America would be better off if everyone believed that by psychically communing with a cosmic Jewish zombie all our transgressions against our fellow humans are made all better like some kind of metaphysical band-aid.
