Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

I think it is ignorant to say that Donny Deutsch, a man born in America, should "go back across the ocean" if he doesn't appreciate "our" sense of humor.
Unless that comment was also supposed to be an example of "our" humor?

Does anyone really expect anything reasonable to come out of her mouth?

Posted By Jon, Sacramento ~ Ca writes:

"Traditional Jewish faith recognizes Jesus as a prophet but not a savior."

    I write:

This is not true! Judaism does not recognize Jesus as anything more than a person, perhaps a notable one, but nothing more. Jon, please don't misrepresent the Jewish faith. Formally speaking, Jesus is not even recognized.

Ann Coulter believes her religion is the only way to live and her Christian role is to convert all others to her beliefs...there are more than two hundred living g-ds throughout the world and she thinks she is the only way. And all others are wrong.

She is mistaken. We are all g-d's children. We are all trying to reach the "top" of the mountain. We are just climbing up different sides of the mountain.

I will make a deal with all; leave me to practice my beliefs and I will leave you alone to practice yours. Deal?

-Deutsch: "It would be better if we were all Christian?"
    -Coulter: "Yeah."
-Coulter: "No, no, — I don't want you being offended by this"

Past history of being an idiot – "I'm a Christian first and a mean-spirited, bigoted conservative second, and don't you ever forget it."

Personally I'm not offended. I always thought Coulter performed acts like this for attention, but now I know she's just ignorant.

And we talk about Iran and stuff when people like ANN have free pass to say in-tolerant things religion. I believe religion teaches us to respect man-kind first and be respectful of other people and religions. Yes there ought to be free speech, but free speech does not need to be disrespectful.

Well i hope the lord saves ANN's soul from suffering in Hell for all the bad things she says and does to sell her book and make money.

If you go to anncoulter.com, you will notice that she does not offer a link to contact her. Ann is just another cowardly, regurgitated piece of garbage looking for some free press; that's what I'd like to think anyway. The truth is that she is probably as low, shallow, inhuman, and undignified as she sounds. Ugly doesn't help. Poor, poor Ann. Her legacy will be a quiet one.

I don't think that Ann Colter is stupid. Selfish, immature, irresponsible, but not stupid. The stupid ones are the ones who read her writings, watch her perform, and give her the recognition and revenue she craves.

Coulter is intentionally confrontational. This interview simply showcases her typical slash and burn methodology. She did a piss-poor job of comparing and contrasting Judaic and Christian beliefs. Anti-Semitic? Come on, Deutsch, wasn't necessary or even logical to go there. Coulter doesn't come across as that terribly bright or articulate. She's a bully.

Thank you, all 153 of you, for posting.

Comments like these need to be noticed–even when their speaker is searching for exactly that. Notice.

Individuals like Coulter aren't remembered. They aren't followed. Referenced to, nor revered.

    They are forgotten.

An ideal America would be one where everyone is as happy as at the Republican convention? Political conventions (on both sides of the fence) are notorious for creating an atmosphere of heavy drinking and an overall celebratory attitide. So, what Ann wants is a nation full of happy drunks?

I don't think Mike from IL could have put it any better.

Nobody will remember this woman. And that's for better, not worse. I can only hope that centuries from now, we're talking about all anti-semites in the same way. That nobody remembers them.

    That they're legend. Horror.

She kind of reminds me of that SC beauty contestant that couldn't put two words together without tripping. As a Christian – I'd like to apologize to all Jews for her lack of . . . tact? Makes me want to respond like the cave-man on the commercial. "Duhhh, What?"

Let's face it, Coulter's time for dropping out of the mass media's limelight has come. I know she needs to make a living just like the rest of us... maybe in porn? *I* think she'd be pretty darned good at it!

I just want to say, that, first of all, this guy, Deutsch, is a bigger bigot that he is proclaiming her to be. We KNOW the Jews are God's chosen people. Jesus, our Savior, came into the world through the Jews, and God (Jesus) will be there to defend them all the way to the end. He was purposefully trying to trip her up, and succeeded. So, you tell me, who's the fool here? Christ came so that the world might live. That is for every person on the face of the earth, whether Jew or Greek, we all need a Savior. His name is Jesus the Christ.

Just representative of the "core" of the neo-cons. The more she talks and more press she gets, the more neo-cons are revealed. Either she's very stupid or very smart. I think she says this kind of stuff to get a buzz going. Without it, she's irrelevant.

This so called educated woman and Christian needs to read her Bible...I'm a Christian and I have never heard such garbage. Being out spoken is one thing, but ignorance is something else. Even worse she thinks she is speaking for all Christians.

One thing more, just because you believe in Christ and that he forgives your sins that DOES NOT make you PERFECT...

a nation of christians?? are you serious. even the 2004 republican convention wasn't all christian. so you want jews to be perfected right? huh..i get it. wat u r saying is christianity is the best religion, judaism is a possible distant 2nd best, if that. and as far as, those other religions go what happened to those? the hindus, the muslims, the sikhs, the buddhists. there is a chance some of those other religions as well as jewish people were present at the 2004 republican convention. so in your christian nation, I, a hindu, don't exist. lets just hope and pray to jesus, to allah, to rama that in a better world, in a better future people like you don't exist.

Jesus was a pot smoking hippie. If she is suggesting that all people should become pot smoking hippies, she may be on to something. Otherwise she is just an ignorant f^*!&%g fool. Thank you, Ann, for the insight.
