Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

John posted, "Christians desire all people to find "salvation" which is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their savior."

Yes, and atheists desire all people to shed themselves of mythology and delusion, too, but we're too polite to try and ram it down your throats, legislate our morality, and show ourselves to be hypocrites every chance we get.

But if we wanted to do any of those things – we'd sure have great role models – you "Christians".

This is not the first time she has promulgated such trash. Howard Stern she is not. How nice that our conservative friends get a chuckle from her comments. It just proves how incredibly stupid they are and why they'll be flattened in the next election. I heard Hitler was a crack-up on this subject also.

Traditional Jewish faith does not recognize Jesus as a prophet. We're not really that concerned with him.

Ann Coulter is only interested in stirring up trouble so that her name can continue to be in the news. I'm convinced the right wing sends her out every couple months or so to say something inflammatory and stupid so as to take the the focus off of their politics what they have done to the country.

I hate to sound sexist, but i think the only reason she gets away with this stuff is because she is an attractive white woman. If she were a man, she wouldn't be able to get a job.

Someone please tell me where is the difference between what this woman said and what the Iranian president says about Jewish people? If he is evil, then so is Coulter.

Ann Coulter is an idiot. When she was last on the Today show earlier this year and made idiotic statements to Matt Lauer, NBC should have banned her from all other NBC affiliated stations, including MSNBC. America is too smart to take this woman seriously. NBC, do yourself a favor and stop inviting her to appear on your shows. It dumbs down your audience.

Ann Coulter is doing a disservice to all blond women everywhere. She is making them all look really stupid by carrying on the stereotype. She is also making right wing zealots look really stupid as well. Incredibly enough, she needs to keep talking to expose this faction for what they are-clueless bags of wind.

Religion, whichever one you pick, is an ancient attempt to get different types of people to live and work together harmoniously. Obviously, it has failed. Instead, religious differences are the biggest differences among people today.

Despite any her education, any of her achievements, or any of her noteriety, Ann Coulter comes across as one of the most dogmatic and narrow-minded idiots of our time. And you know what? She's made herself famous for it!

Before preaching Christianity, Ms. Coulter ought to convert to it. Both she and her ilk's words and deeds do not match up to the message and ethos of Jesus Christ's Gospel, particularly Matthew 7:1-5.

What is she talking about? Christians have rules to follow. Jesus gave Christians two laws:

    1. Love the Lord your God.
    2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Ann Coulter is merely an attention seeker, very much like a child. In order to remain in the media spotlight, she has to continue making outrageous remarks. Each comment must be more outrageous than the last, or she will stop being the object of the media's attention. She is really a child with a compulsion to be in the public's eye. Pay NO heed to her, and she will soon go away.

I kind of like Ann Coulter, in a perverse sort of way. She is like Rush Limbaugh, except good looking and smart. Her specialty is outraging people, and she is so good at it. The more she says these things, the more money she makes. She will be on every talk show and news show for the next two weeks. She is like Cher – except that Cher is cool. Like Cher, you can't define what she does, but we can all agree that she is the only one who does it.

Besides, many Christians have contempt for non-Christians. A Pope, during the age of Exploration, as I recall, ruled that it is not a sin to kill pagans and infidels, since they are going to hell anyway.

Christianity has a long tradition of intolerance, torture, and hatred of non-Christians. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Ann's many books can be bought on Amazon. Used copies of all titles are available cheap.

    Have fun, Ann.

This sounds to me like some extreme judgement? Doesn't the new testament kind of get away from this kind of thinking?

I hope this woman will be seen for who she is now. This is the most asinine thing she's EVER said and she's said some doozy untruths in her time.

I actually feel bad for all the educated Christians out there, they must be so embarrassed at her total disregard for everything they were taught and believe.

She is not their Christian poster child.

Fast Track, what the hell is she talking about? Perfected?

I'm pretty sure the bible doesn't say anywhere Christians are on the fast track from Judaism?????

Actually, Deutsch said "It would be better if we were all Christian?" and Coulter said "Yeah." If this were any other religion he never would have asked that question. She was giving him honest answers. Christians are Jews who are saved. What religion doesn't think they're the right one? As a Christian, I think she did a great job and I'm behind her 100%. Hey, it was her dream.

Defend America? Umm, saying we should all be Christian's puts America in danger! Remember the constitution?

Christian beliefs are not perfect. No religion is perfect.

How can people grow up in america and attend higher education make these comments? Its a failure of education and Ann Coulter has just showed us how shallow her character is. Good work!

Coulter obviously does not understand Chrisitianity, or Judiasm.

Her comments are an embarassment, one step away from the Islamofascists who want to convert all infidels.

It's really mindblowing how ignorant her comments sound, and that she doesn't understand why it would be offensive.

I agree with a lot of points she makes, but then she goes off the deep end with this and other comments, and it makes me wonder.

I think this will actually really be her downfall, contrary to others opinions.

This is just another example of Coulter spouting her drivel. She is the female Rush Limbaugh. Everything she says is designed to sell her books, commentaries and shows. Nobody is as stupid as she makes herself out to be.
