Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Ok thats it she is now in the "I have lost touch with reality" group.
I wonder what color the sky is in her world.
I love the far right when they say things even they have to defend.

To all the Anne Coulter defenders: Take her exact comments and have them come out of Al Sharpton's or OJ Simpson's mouth....Close your eyes and process that image...are the comments still harmless?

Pope,Falwell,Limbaugh,Hitler,Robertson,Swami Vishnu,Lenin,Coulter, etc etc. They all have the answer, so needy, so ready to convince others, so desperate to tell us how right they are. A desperation that comes from a very personal fear. A fear rooted in the quiet personal question we all face at the end of this life. Is there, or is there not something beyond this life. An answer we cannot have. Those most afraid, proclaim the loudest. Coulter is very afraid I think. Some of that fear is expressed in anger, and so it is that the fighting over the course of milenia, rooted in religion, has victimized all of life.

I'm a Christian and I have no idea what Coulter is talking about. Never heard the term "perfected Jew" or whatever hatefull garbage she was spewing. Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Savage, Beck....these are the clowns the conservatives idolize. Pathetic.

In response to all the new and old testament quoting I would just like to say " Can we please have a moment of Science." We would be a lot better off, its like the saying; No God, Know Peace".

I don't mind Coulter's babble. I'm a liberal Jew, but she doesn't really make enough sense for me to bother with taking her seriously.

If I were a Republican, however, or even a Christian, I would vehemently resent her. I imagine she couldn't do more damage to the right if she were actively trying.

She seems to be part of that Rovian experiment of divide and conquer, wherein one vomits up every vitriolic, divisive measure one can, splattering the headlines with bile. Of course, we know what happened to Bush's approval ratings. And the legislature. And Rove.

So basically, if I were Republican, I would do all I could to keep Coulter the hell away from a mic. As a liberal and as a Jew, however, I say let her keep talking.

I think Ann needs to spend more time actually studying the Bible that she pretends to know. She is the most INTOLERANT person I've ever heard on TV as well as shallow. When asked about Fred Thompson, she said, "He's tall." Wow, how profound. She makes money for sensationalism only, i.e. GREED. READ THE BIBLE. Jews are the chosen ones, we as Christians are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, a Jew. Ann, you are not leading people to Christ with your words so just be quiet, on behalf of us who would like to further His kingdom during these days in which we live.

Ann: You are a disgrace to our political party, and now a disgrace to our religion. Please, crawl under a rock and stay there for a few years until you regain some common sense.

I am not a Coulter fan...I believe she is a shock jock and can be very offensive, however, I do not believe she was being anti-semitic...Deutsch was pushing her to say something anti-jew....As Christians we believe that the Jews are God's chosen people..but the Jews, just like humankind even today, did not step up when Jesus needed support...ookkkkk, so where does that leave us as Christians and Jews....Christians believe when Christ returns He will bring Jews unto himself and every knee shall bow and voice proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.....In the meantime Christians should love and do what is right toward ALL people...because God is Love....it's not the republican party, the democratic party, islam, baptist, catholics, or the KKK....no one can throw a stone....Deutsch is offended...pleeze give me a break...maybe Coulter didn't say it properly, she was being sarcastic...but read the scriptures.

Traditional Jewish belief does not recognize Jesus as a prophet. Jesus is not recognized at all, and rightly so; they are two different religions.

If Ann Coulter is representative of the "tolerant" Christianity she refers to in this interview, we're all in trouble.

Ann Coulter is promoting Ann Coulter with outrageous statements and the media just keeps sucking it up. She is a needy person looking for attention and the media provides it. When will we ever learn that by being outrageous sells, ignore her and she will go away. There are real problems in the world that warrant our attention, let's move on to them and drop this bottom feeder.

Come on Republicans. Honesty gets you nowhere. Learn to lie like the democrats do. Eight years of the Clinton Crime family in the White House taoght you nothing? Appear to be accepting of all people until the election comes around and the black man loses to the white trash lady. Not even the democrats can overcome their racism. They just hide it better.

She is nothing but an intolerant, racist shock-jock. I can't believe she truly believes what she spouts off. She claims the Republican party is tolerant – I disagree. Is tolerance saying that all other religions should be wiped out and converted to the 'perfection' of Christianity? How is that tolerance? Tolerance means that we agree to disagree, and we coexist peacefully on the single planet that we have. What she preaches is the radical Christianity that has caused many of the problems in the world.

This exchange goes to show the anger and intolerance of ALL 3 Abrahamic Reilgions. Since Constantine first rallied his troops to fight behind the cross, they have been killing each other, and will continue to do so, to the end. The only TRULY peaceful religion is Tibetan. Just LISTEN to the Dahli Lama ONCE!

Maybe Coulter should stick to talking crazy about politics instead of talking crazy about religion. As a Christian myself, I am highly offended that she used the term "we" and "Christians" as if we all believe the same way she does. This is nuts.

I love listening to hypocrites take offence at Anne Coulters comments.
Is she saying exterminate the Jews, outlaw non-Christians, Christians are the only religion we should allow ... NO. She was asked her opinion of “HER” dream. It is simple logic, she is a Christian, Christianity was founded by Jews, it is an offshoot of Judaism. Christians believe in the New Testament and Jews do not. We have a common foundation in the Old Testament. If she said the same thing in a different way such as “Christians are the imperfect Jews who were tired of the demands of the Old Testament so we came up with the New Testament and followed the teachings of a Jewish Prophet, Christ.” Christians believe in Christianity and Jews and other religions believe their faith is the true faith. Is there something wrong with that? Is Donny Deutch so intolerant that Christians are not allowed to believe as Jews do that theirs is the true faith. Diversity is not an American goal it is a strength that we are tolerent of people of various faiths. If Donny is looking to be offended look a little closer to home, say the mirror.

Any Christian (yes, even Ann Coulter), Muslim or Jew has the right to believe that his or her religion is "perfect." Practice whichever religion fits for your own life. If I remember correctly, that's in the Bill of Rights, isn't it? But it is deplorable to suggest that we would be "better off" if we were all Christians. Terrorist ideology also promotes that everyone should follow one "perfect" religion, or suffer the consequences. I guess we should be thankful Ms. Coulter didn't go that far...

Pepo is absolutely correct. Anne Coulter is transgendered and because of the trauma of not knowing (his)her sexual identity, is forced to spew b.s. such as this. I say "Anne (Andrew) whip it out for the world to see"!

I understand the point she was trying to make, that christian relgion evolved from jewish religion, and that christians often perceive jews as being on a different path toward God, but she is still an IDIOT because she has no tact at all.

Why are her comments still news? Heck, I shouldn't even respond because she wants response from people who disagree with her in anyway so she can claim that liberals want to quiet her (honestly, Ronald Reagan and the founding fathers would be considered liberal in the views she's espousing). What she's doing is alienating the moderate conservatives of the Republican party who disagree with her. The liberals already discount her.

If it weren't for the growing number of people that share her lunatic sentiments, I'd say give her a padded cell and be done with it. Sadly, her attitude towards anyone not exactly like her is fertile ground for violent and hateful rhetoric, pogroms and general corrupt aggression, which this world already has in alarming abundance. Her statements, though not offensive to HER, lead me to think that she and Heinrick Himler would be a perfect pair.

omg! If I have to read another self-righteous remark supporting what she did, I am going to scream. She is crazy and should be in an asylum, just like anybody else that agrees with her should be in an asylum. We live in a country of immigrants, we are immigrants unless we are indians. And yet we attack peoples religions and race, but we are ALL from different countries somewhere down the line... we all have different beliefs. It is completely beyond me how people can attack other peoples beliefs and races when they themselves are from different races. And anyone that talks the way this coulter talks thinks their religion is better than everybody else and it's disgusting! They will be the ones that don't go to heaven if there even is a heaven!
