Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Ann Coulter's "Jew" comments shows the true nature of anti-semetic ignorance and indifference still present in American Culture.

Poor Ann. She's just off her rocker. Engaging in religious discussions will always make other religious groups angry......duh. I can't believe any news outlet covers what she says.

Coulter's comments are anti-semetic and uneducated. How people listen to her is beyond me. She basically said that all people who have Jewish beliefs are of a less importance and my favorite, Jews need to be perfected, she considers herself a leader she sounds a lot like Hitler to me.

Since when is it considered "anti-semetic" for promoting your own religion? Coulter didn't target the Jews as something to be hated, she was simply expressing her opinion of her own religion. Deutsch was setting her up. Yeah, she certainly looked like a dummy in the way she presented her thoughts, but I blame people like Deutsch for being so quick to shout "You're Anti-Semetic!" simply because someone speaks "unfavorably" of Judaism in favor of their own.

It is very important for people to read the Bible so that they are informed before they try to participate in discussions about Christianity and Judaism. Deutsch may have never read the Bible because he reacted to Coulter's comments in a way that is common for people who do not have enough information to discuss an issue. I am not a fan of Coulter but in this particular situation she has not done anything wrong. She did not appear to be anti-semetic, she was simply discussing religion from a Christian perspective.

The scariest thing about this is the crazed posts left by the politically correct freaks who don't agree with Ms. Colter. Talk about intolerant! Is there anyone left out there who thinks the PC crowd really believes in freedom of speech? This is hilarious!

Let there be no doubt who the new fascists are in early part of the 21st Century.

Calling Culter's comments intolerant and uneducated is calling the vast majority of religious individuals intolerant and uneducated. I'm not sure that's a leap most Americans are willing to take.

    To Dane from Columbus:

I am willing to take that step.

My favorite part of this whole interview is when she's describing the 2004 GOP as "Tolerant" (ha) – Then goes on to say that Jews would be better off as Christians. Too funny.

What has America come to when comments like this dare even be spoken aloud; when people are not embarassed to hear media figures spew such intolerance?

She is the new Don Imus. Where are all the outraged commentators and network executives pointing fingers, covering their behinds and firing her? She may as well be saying that Hittler, being a good Christian, had a point. Oh, boy.

For the buck it would cost me in gasoline, I can drive down to the local Wal-Mart and listen to people hanging around there spout incomprehensible rubbish for hours. So would somebody explain to me again why people are paying Coulter the big bucks for it?

So, Anne, basically, since we are all sinners anyway, xians can take the short road, sin all they want (and they have) and still get a first class ticket into Heaven. All the while, these poor, unperfected Jews, not Xians Anne, as you repeated TWICE (hello, Freud?), all have to be good, law abiders because they don't have Christ as their free pass? What about the rest of us? We're all going to Hell, right, Anne? Wouldn't you just die to know what some of us believe? Some of us believe this is Hell and you're one it's evil minions! THANK GOD you are too stupid to hear yourself!!
Happy Equinox, Anne! Don't let the spooks and spirits gechah!
    Love, Leslie 🙂

Jesus...just what the Christian Community needs, a public figure getting it wrong. I would love to know where the Bible says we become perfect Jews. I love the Jews, they are God's people...but even the Old Testament says that their eyes are closed and their hearts hardened-in reference to the "coming" (though He already came once, and coming again-though not soon enough) Messiah. Had it not for that hardness of Isrealites' hearts, the Gentiles (or in other words, the rest of us) wouldn't have gotten the oppotunity for salvation (see the Book of Romans). In other words, SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT...NOR CAN SHE SPEAK FOR ME AND HOW I FEEL as a servant of the Most High God, and friend of Jesus. I am a seed of Abraham through Christ, tribe of Jacob. However, I am not perfected, simply redeemed and worthy of salvation. Ignorance kills, folks.

Holy crap! Coulter sure makes Christians sound lazy and that just by being born into a certain religious culture we can sit back and relax; not only should Jews be offended by her comments, but Christians should be as well. She compared the New Testament to Fed Ex. In a sense I guess her characterization of American Christianity is correct in that Fed Ex is a business and in America church is a business. American Christians are constantly trying to market God; how can we fit God on a bracelet, what books can we sell that make people believe they are better Christians for simply owning the book. If Coulter really believes in the sacrifice of Christ she would not have compared the event to a parcel service delivering packages; unless there is something I don't know about the power of Fed Ex.
Coulter is misguided on so many things, but her statements about Judaism and Christianity are embarrassing!!

If you read carefully she actually realizes she screwed up. First she says "Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews", then tries to cover it up with "We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all." She obviously recognized that she crossed the line. Problem is, once you say something stupid on T.V., its hard to take it back. I love watching her put her bony, pale, racist foot in her mouth.
She should do an interview on Al-Jazeera T.V. – they'd love her ideas and she'd fit right in. Her rhetoric is no different than any of the "Islamo-facists" she constantly rants about. What a hypocrite!

What else is new. This is pretty much par for the course for Coulter, she says it for the shock value and the publicity. I bet deep down inside in places she doesn't talk about at parties (channeling Jack N.) she's a bleeding heart liberal. 🙂

What Imus said was bad, he was fired for that; for me, what she said, sounds like at least hunderd times worse......but she is good with Republican Party, she has to be very well protected....beside that, nobody is realy supprised, it is something that she was expected to say...
