Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.
Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004
"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)
When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."
Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"
"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."
"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”
"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."
Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."
"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."
Deutsch said he was personally offended.
"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."
Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.
"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."
Same old story with this bony hag. She makes a comment and she then claims everyone misinterprets her.
Why does she get any attention at all?
Coulter says stuff like this all the time to get a rise out of people. Two days ago I saw an interview with her and she said that we shouldn't allow women the right to vote anymore because they waste it(their vote) on democrats.
I think if Ms. Coulter truly believes what she's saying, then she's apparently not afraid to ruffle some feathers. Desiring someone else to know the truth can be very offensive –if the affected individual doesn't believe that they're in the wrong. As a fellow Christian, I think while some of her comments may be a bit harsh, what she said in this article was spot-on.
Coulter repeatedly says "we" in reference to her Christian perspective, making her a spokesperson for an entire religion. That should give Christians pause. Being a Jew, I feel very fortunate being the imperfect image of Ms. Coulter. Tolerant???
Ann Coulter is loving all of this attention. If we just ignored her, she would get REALLY UPSET and realize how much of an idiot she really is.
I assume that Annie supports the American neo-Nazi community who would be more than willing to help American Jews become good, albeit sinnin', Christians. I suppose she was being a bit more subtle than Adolf Hitler was ... but not by much.
Did she say tolerant??? She can't possibly understand the definition of the word. She is intolerant of everyone that does not agree with her politics on every level. She does make me laugh, though. I tend to laugh at stupid, senseless people. She really is a sad excuse for a woman, a Christian...she should stop talking. She has nothing of value to say.
I think Robin in Nashville got it right.
Coulter said "we know we're all sinners" meaning EVERYONE is imperfect. Unless Jewish people believe that they ARE, in fact, perfect, how is that anti-semitic?
When Coulter says something conservatives like, they cheer and say their ever-present "she's tellin' it like it is!" and book her to speak at their events.
When she says something stupid like this, they say "Oh, she's just trying to shock people and nobody should take her seriously."
Which is it, conservatives? PICK ONE.
As a Democrat and an athiest, I'm happy to have her making herself a representative Republicans and Christianity. I do feel a bit sorry for the Christians she's smearing, because at least most of them mean well, but... those are the breaks. As for the Republicans, she's like an unstaunched wound in a major artery, just bleeding them dry of integrity... and they like enough about her to keep supporting her and keep the bleeding going.
So, go on and keep on clinging to that anchor, guys, and enjoy the trip to the bottom. Thanks, Ann!
Oh, please. Ann Coulter needs to remove herself from association with the Republican party and conservatives on the whole. I am a Republican and even I think she's ridiculous. She is very clearly more worried about keeping her own name in the headlines - and will use any offensive, caustic remark she can think of to keep it there - than she is about the message she is sending.
I think it is time that Ms. Coulter is removed from the public limelight. It would do everyone good to put her behind us.
I do hope the world does not see Ann Coulter as the ambassador of Christianity. Her method of proselytizing is poorly articulated and offensive to this Christian. My personal belief is that God reaches us where we are, which to me means each person is on an individual path to find God and that path may include any religion that speaks to the soul. I do not believe any path has an express lane.
How does Ann Coulter know that the attendees of the Republican National Convention of 2004 were happy? Is her argument that they were happy because they were surrounded by like-minded people? Happy that our country was at war? Even if one supports the war should one be "happy" about our soldiers dying? In my opinion she is right in that they were probably all Christians and probably thought they were defending America. That they were and are tolerant is less plausible.
Free speech is part of what makes this country great but aren't Ann Coulter's 15 minutes up?
She really believes as a "Christian" she is "tolerant" and "defend[s] America" while simultaneously exhibiting intolerance toward non-Christian Americans in the guise of defending America! I suppose she would think Thomas Jefferson's ideas of religious freedom are un-American and would be opposed to his Bill for Religious Freedom which reads in part: "No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship ... nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened ... nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities." Jefferson further stated "Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make half the world fools and half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the world..." Is this when "people were happy" in the name of Christianity? It seems to me that Ann Coulter seeks to re-establish what our founding fathers sought to end. I would suggest Ms. Coulter put down her broomstick, read her New Testament as well as the Constitution and try to figure out what it takes to be a true Christian and a true American.
I notice that many of the comments that oppose Ann's statements contain vitriol, hatred, and condemnation.
While many Christian attributed responses tended not to agree with her words but the ideal of wanting all peoples to be saved or to go to heaven, they agree.
Maybe, this vitriol, hatred, and condemnation are what cause Ann to believe that a world where every one practiced Christian ideals would be more pleasant.
Ann WHO? America is a participatory democracy. So, instead of paying attention to all these "news" stories designed to line the pockets of the media companies, go out right now and do something nice for someone who is not like you. Only then will you learn what our Founding Fathers intended everyone to know about life in America.
CNN already knew what Coulter's position was which is exactly why they had somebody like Deutsch interview her.
Just to clear things up – This country was founded by Christians using Christian morals and yes, Christianity is better than any other religion, not because I say so, but because the majority of the people on the planet say so.
i see a few comments where they say ann is a nazi. and all jokes aside her mentality is EXACTLY what a nazi's used to be. ignorant and intollerant of other cultures and aggressively predjudice. and also SHES NOT PRETTY!!! she looks like an ostrich anyone that thinks she is pretty must love men as well because she is soooo far from what pretty is AND her mental capacity makes her EVEN uglier....

sean, MAYBE NOT!!
True Christians believe in the hope of the Savior of the world, Jesus- We are saint and sinner at the same time! Perfected in Christ, not our goods works–that is what she should have said. Scripture never teaches violence towards ANYONE that does want the gift of Salvation (some religions, do)
there have been many thing done "in the name of Christianity"–
Humans sin, all humans-Christians sometimes offend by their enthusiasm- but the Truth does set us free

your ignorant, period. SPOT ON
What is with this crazed woman? She is the epitome of intolerance, racism, hate, and evil. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but I think it would be great if her jaw was wired shut . I fear the religious right and their impact on this Country more that a pit full of rattlesnakes.
Ann Coulter should just be banned from the television, radio, etc. Her ideas are so warped how can anyone really listen to her ( well with the exception of conservatives) Why does anyone care about what she says. To be really upfront, not to take away that she is a very intelligent person but she lacks common sense. And this last statement that all the people in America should be Christians – everyone in this country are not Christians. As for myself I do not believe in any organized religion, I am a spritiual person, that I do believe in God but believe that organized religion does not bring people together, it seperates people. And people have the right to believe what they want to believe. If we went by what Ann Coulter thinks and believe, we would be worse off than we are now!!! Plus from a man's viewpoint and this might be not PC – but if she was not an attractive woman, no one would really care what she have to say!!! If it was up to me, I would like to see her in an inner city ghetto and have masses of women just kick the you know what out of her.
Have a nice day.
