Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

This woman just wants attention. When she has come up with a new theory or opinion that she thinks is astonishing enough to get her the attention she so deserately craves she just goes with it. She doesn't actually believe it. It is like Britney and "accidently" flashing while the cameras are snapping. Pathetic.

Look, this is a woman with a social disability and we should take what she says with a grain of salt. There is a difference between being well instructed and well educated. Ann Coulter is not educated.

Maybe Mizz Coulter should find her own "America" to live in. Personally I can live without churches wanting 10% of my hard earned money.

Ann Coulter is like the little kid who loves to step on an ant hill to watch all the little ants scurry around looking for something to attack. When things get too calm for Ann she goes on some national show and agitates the ant hill again. I don't even think she does it to sell books. She does it for some sort of sick pleasure.

I doubt very highly Ann has real conviction in what she says. She only makes these comments to stir up people. If the entire world was Christian Ann would only find something else to poke the ant hill with. Some people are like that and Ann is a perfect example. Ann is the furthest thing from what being a Christian means.

And Christian from Selden NY you're the last one that should be calling someone else ignorant. Your posts add very little to the discussion as a whole.

Ann Coulter is no different than all the other neocons who have made a fortune pandering to hatred, bigotry and ignorance. The fortunes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter all come from those ignorant enough to listen to any of them and swallow their drivel hook, line and sinker.

Why is it that every time she has a book to sell she makes these comments. Ann... you have enough money. If you want to be truly Christian, why not work to make the world better and more tolerant. Why is it that every word out of this person's mouth is to make the world more downtrodden and filled with hate.

This is a human thing, not a Jewish or Muslim, or gay, or conservative thing. Can't she just go away so the world can be a better place.

Isn't there some way to silence this cretin? The reality is that every time she makes one of these outrageous proclamations, it sells another of her freakshow books. Maybe if we all just ignore her and you guys stop giving her print and air time? Hey, that's an idea!

I bought her books before, and I will never buy her new book, or listen to her, in the future, just because I rather spend my time reading something more serious, or listen to a real comedian.

It is a shame that in our world people like Anne Coulter can still look at others with such distain. Her comments are proof that she is so far out of the loop when it comes to reality. I hope the Republican leadership denouces this act anti semitism coming from within their party. But I won't hold my breath. Sounds like she is speaking for the President of Iran when it comes to Jews. Way to go Anne!!!!!!

What is her opinion of the rest of the people living in the US – Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims......should they all also renounce their religion and become Christians......her being in the media is a problem and people like her are the reason for hate crimes. I consider her to be a preacher in the likes of dictators and religious fanatics leading to genocide and terrorism

Wow, Ann has balls, and I so agree with her. As Christians, we love the Jewish people. Ann is right - the Jews are still waiting for their Messiah, and until then, they are obligated to obey the law. If they would accept Jesus as their Messiah (and as 600+ Old Testament prophecies attest to), they would be set free. Because the Truth shall set you free.

However, any true follower of Jesus is an asset to our country. Organized religion may be losing favor, but true Christianity is growing daily. LOVE is nothing to be afraid of people.

    Mike,
its a very bitter world you live in. it takes alot of faith to belive what scitists tell you. they dont have the answers just theories that tend to change alot. sounds like your definition of us brain dead christians. since you're so enlightened answer how from nothing came the universe and everything in, last I checked science cant create something from nothing. you want to hold the bible to a literaltranslation you can, thats your right, but dont go bashing others beliefs just because you cant comprehend them.

Do I detect a pattern here? Democartic operatives are ow playing the Republican "gotcha" game. Anne Coulter didn't say anything other than what Christian's have been saying for nearly 2000 years – you are prefected in Christ. Muslim's, Buddhist's, Hindhu's, every religion I have ever heard of has some similar doctrine. This isn't racism and the lame attempts to portray it as such are disgusting and lame.

What worries me more is the movement on the part of the Clinton crowd, and leftist's in general, to get revenge on conservatives for their misdeads and excesses during the Bush years. This is just as dangerous as the kind of fanaticism practiced by the religious right and Bush – except, now it is the anti-religious left and Clinton. Keep it up guys, you ight just succeed in destroying the country. We need a uniter right now, a genuine moderate who will, bring us together. I haven't got the slightest idea of who tht might be. Obama, Edwards, Huckabee and maybe Fred Thompson appear to be that kind of leader. The rest of "them" are practicing the same old politcis of destruction, divide and conquer, hatred, and petty games.

The entire transcript isn't posted here, but you should find it and read the part where she uses a Seinfeld episode to try to prove a point. Anyone who would use an episode of a sitcom to prove a point is incredibly stupid.

It's always remarkable to me how a news organization can put a particular spin on a story, and the vast majority just follow along like lemmings without giving a moment's thought as to whether it's as outrageous as CNN wants you to believe, or in fact whether it's outrageous at all. In this case and in words the masses can perhaps understand, the lady simply said "My religion is the best." If you don't believe that about your own religion, you need a new one. She never said a word about being intolerent. The intolerent ones are the ones who make comments like they want her "banned from life" and similar remarks.

If Ann Coulter is such a great Christian and believes the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, then why does she continually act as though she's ingesting various chemicals and herbs that affect her mind? Get thee to rehab Annie.

Thanks to Coulter for actually saying what truly all Christians believe who are devout- it is the Christian mission to convert everyone and at least she is admitting the truth. They truly want the whole world to be Christian and to be saved- she is at least honest enough to say it. By the way, these are the types of things that are said prior to periods in history that are known for religious persecution like the Crusades and the rise of the Third Reich.

Now if everyone really recognized that this is the mission of Christians and other religious missionaries, that everyone be religious, we would have a truly honest debate about religion in this country and how it relates to laws and politics and government.
