Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

All arguments over Ann's comments are fruitless. All who do not enter by the straight gate (Christ) are theives and robbers. Make sure you enter through the straight gate.

Does she have a direct phone connection to God? She obviously does not know what a true "Christian" is....She is right up there with the president of Iran, the late Saddam and Hitler...if you are different than us...you don't belong here..we have ways of dealing with you...I hope that she (and many others like her) will some day see the error of their ways and repent...(or maybe the bleach from her hair has burnt out her brain?).

    Look, idiots:

That's why this guy had her on his show and that's why she continues to make news. That's why CNN put it on their website. She says outlandish and offensive things continually, and everyone continues to soak it up. Why are people so surprised EVERY TIME? All I see on this comment list are expressions of disbelief. Where have you people been? Honestly, what do you expect?

Ms Coulter comes across as a ridiculous motor mouth. She obviously has a serious drug problem that has made her more delusional than the average religious nut job of whatever strip. Why the media weenies think people like her have anything meaningful to contribute escapes me. Unless it is to encourage blogs like this.

So I guess her idea of being a perfect Christian involves wearing skin-tight dresses, chain-smoking, all-night benders on Chardonnay, and pre-marital sex. (Her own words: Time Magazine Apr. 25, 2005) How proud Christians must be.

She was obviously doing it to get attention and does not really believe that. Also, she is not an elected official (or unelected one) and represents no one. She is an author who has made it big and very rich by saying controversial things. Who cares what she thinks?

It's time Ms. Coulter was perfected.
The bottom line is this is language of hate. We have enough of that in this society. The question I have is where are the protests? Ms. Coulter needs to be perfected...for good!

Great going Ann! You explained it correctly. That was God’s ultimate plan which also says ” love your neighbor as yourself”. Maybe also something about “returning good for evil” and several other love your fellow man but that doesn’t mean accepting their unbelief in Jesus or God’s plan. It doesn’t sound like He left room to hate Jews or anyone else when He said that. Thanks for speaking the truth and being strong enough to be politically incorrect.

Well Well what do you know...America has started turning into a extremist state. The pendulum of time is swinging away from this great country of ours. We bring the message of tolerance and democracy to the rest of the world while we ourselves are going the other way... May be in a few years when some other country bombs us to bring a regime change and democracy, our children can look back and once again not learn their lessons just as their parents did.....

Another pathetic attempt by an individual who has nothing relevant to contribute to the dialogue by spouting outrageous and offensive things.

I'm not a fan of Ann Coulter, but really, her remark is not that crazy. There is A LOT of Christians out there who wants everybody to convert to Christianity and believes that everyone who does not accept Jesus Christ goes to hell. I have come across too many to list, but surprisingly, despite their belief, most are nice and pleasant people. Ann Coulter is not the only one, but she's the high profile one so get gets all the attacks. At least she thinks Jews go to heaven.

"We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe — this is just a statement of what the New Testament is — is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

This actually makes sense to me based on my understanding of the what is written in the Bible. Now whether the Bible is to be believed is a different matter, but anyone who puts faith in the Old and New Testament would probably come to the same conclusion. Is Ann Coulter a an intellect ? Probably not, but I don't think she's a whacko. Too Politically incorrect maybe.

I'm a Christian and I take offense to Ann Coulter. And people wonder why Christians get a bad name? It's political commentators like her who think they speak for the majority and have no idea what they are talking about. Christians are not people who force their opinion down other people's throats. The must practice tolerance and be humble.

Well, if she's going to go with the "continuation of the religious testaments" argument, by her reasoning you could also argue that Muslims are "perfected Christians." I am sure this is what she had in mind, of course.

To Dave in Colorado...this country was NOT founded by christians, it was founded by people who were escaping christian intolerance. Washington, jefferson, Madison, Adams, were deist who belived in the GOD of science and nature. And the plant is NOT predominatly christian, there are far more Muslims, Hindues and Buddests.

1254 comments and all of them have missed the point. Coulter is simply the symptomatic evidence of the total degradation of political discourse in this country. It sells to make outrageous remarks to the media and Coulter knows it. Her role model, Rush Limbaugh, learned at an early age that being a buffoon pays very well. Ignore her and she will disappear. We need to return to reasoned discussion of actual issues and avoid the polarization of our nation upon which Coulter feeds.

Ann Coulter is simply an amazing woman. Stephen Colbert can't even say the stuff she says, and he's doing satire! Of course white males can't really say anything too controversial. On the other hand, the stuff she's saying about Christians and Jews is all true. On the other other hand, her comments don't even fall on the political correctness spectrum.
