Coulter: We want 'Jews to be perfected'

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Conservative commentator and best-selling author Ann Coulter may find herself in the midst of a controversy for comments Monday suggesting America would be better if everyone was Christian.

Asked by CNBC host Donny Deutsch what the U.S. looks like in her dreams, Coulter said it would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004

"People were happy,” she said, according to a transcript provided to CNN by CNBC. “They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America." (Video: Watch Coulter's comments on CNBC)

When Deutsch responded, "It would be better if we were all Christian?" Coulter said "Yeah."

Deutsch, himself Jewish, continued to press Coulter on her remarks, asking, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians then?"

"Yeah," Coulter responded, adding "Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track."

"You can't possibly believe that," Deutsch responded. “You can’t possibly. You’re too educated.”

"Do you know what Christianity is?" Coulter replied. "See, we believe your religion, but you have to obey. We have the fast track program."

Later in the interview Deutsch asked Coulter if she doesn't want any Jews in the world, Coulter responded, "No, we think - we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say."

"Wow, you didn't really say that, did you," Deutsch said.

"Yeah, no,” Coulter replied. “That’s what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners."

Deutsch said he was personally offended.

"No. I'm sorry. It is not intended to be," she said. "I don't think you should take it that way, but that is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews. We believe the Old Testament. As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe - this is just a statement of what the New Testament is - is that that's why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. You don't believe our testament."

Deutsch continued to call Coulter's comments anti-semetic.

"No, no, - I don't want you being offended by this," she responded. "This is what Christians consider themselves, because our testament is the continuation of your testament. You know that. So we think Jews go to heaven. I mean, [the late Rev. Jerry] Falwell himself said that, but you have to follow laws. Ours is "Christ died for our sins." We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

It is easy to dismiss or explain away such comments coming from such a media shock jock, but she probably spoke her mind reflecting the way most of America's "Christians" think today. No wonder why the rest of the world has come to the correct conclusion, that the USA has lost its moral compass!

It's funny how religion makes people so righteous. It's not like it started any wars or anything.... oh wait.

When people truly believe in something, that belief becomes their own personal truth…in other words, if you don’t believe it’s true, you’re just going through the motions. In essence, to believe in anything is exclusive. If the Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, and I believe that statement is true, then I am also saying that I reject other alternatives that don’t support this position. It is impossible to believe in two conflicting “truths”.

So, I have no problem with people believing that the path they have chosen is the right path...otherwise why choose it? I also have no problem with people talking about their beliefs. The fact that you believe something is going to be offensive to some part of the population. I wonder though why some think that stating your beliefs is so dangerous that it needs to be silenced. There are fringe cases in every belief system, political system and social system. The danger is not in dialog and disagreement about beliefs, the danger is trying to silence those who disagree with your view.

Wow, another person making us christians seem intolerable to other religions first let me say Coulter's statement about christianity is false she called us "perfected jews" which most chrsitians are gentiles and are not part of the "chosen people" in the old testament. and we are not perfect, Coulter is a great example of that.

Being Jewish, I can tell you that my opinion is that Christian's are nothing more then those who have strayed from the true faith. I am a conservative voter, Jon in Sacramento, so you can take the assertion that only liberals will be offended and shove them up your nose.I am sick to death of Christians who just can't keep their religion to themselves and I am seriously sick of Coulter and her anti-semetic BS. PERFECT Jews? We are and always will be the original and only faith. Perhaps Christians need to be put back in their place. Not such a fun idea, is it?

I do not understand what all the comotion is about!? Ann is absolutely correct. Our country has never been great because of diversity. It has been great because of our like mindedness even though diverse. The country was founded on Christian principles and the farther we get from them the more problems we will have.
SO HURRAY FOR ANN COULTER for having the courage to stand up for what she believes. As I recall, Christians still have the freedom of speech in America. At least for a while!

This once again proves that religion separates people, it does not bring them together. every major conflict is because of this stupid fairy tale that people insist on believing. there is no grand plan. no one in the sky taking care of you. grow up. I guess santa and the easter bunny are real too right. god loves you but unless you do what he says you will suffer for all eternity, correct? isn't that extortion?

Can someone please tell me which religion or political party was Jesus supporting during his days on earth? For me today's religions are not united because you need to be Democrat or Republican to be a good Christian... or worse than that, you need to be Christian to be a good human been? I don't see account in the Bible indicating that Jesus supported Roman's or Jewish religions or political parties. He just established one believe, away from those human made entities. Today’s religions are basically an extension of the false religions that killed Jesus in ancient times. Evidence is clear; they love to kill or support killings, isn’t it?

The reason it's anti-Semitic is because she is saying Judaism is inferior to Christianity, by declaring that Jews are not perfect yet while Christians are. This chick is a complete loon.

Ann Coulter is the modern-day version of Torquemada, the infamous Inquisitor General of the Spanish Inquisition from centuries ago. Give her a black robe and a bible in which she may parade around town, a torture chamber in which she may extort recantations of faith, a few funeral pyres at which she may burn the unrepentent heretics and she would take us right back to the penultimate cause of all of the religious strife that currently plagues us – Christian intolerance and their petty superiority complexes.

She just says these outrageous things for the attention in the press and to sell more copies of her book. Unfortunately the press falls for it every time, kind of like a little kid with the "got your nose" routine. I just wish the media would stop giving her attention.

And once again, the Neo-Cons shoot themselves in the foot. This country may be founded on Christian morals, but the most important Christian ideal is that all humans are equal in the eyes of God. Jews, Christians, Mulsims. We're all worthy of heaven.

Though, if you use what Coulter is saying about how Christians are 'perfected Jews' because we came later and follow the same principles, just expanded, then the Islamic world (which came later, and is another expansion of Hebrew/Christian ideals) is the 'perfect Christian.'

But that's only if you believe in what she says.

Ann, don't you get it – we're happy being Jewish! We don't need your saving – it's your opinion that only 'saved' people will go to heaven. Don't try and convert us – we certainly don't try and convert you – Judaism is probably the only religion in the world that does not seek converts and that is actually supposed to initially discourage converting. We'll stick to the Old Testament thanks. Live and Let Live, Ann!

These posted comments are protected by free speech so why can't Coulter have the right to free speech. Left wing Liberals just blab and spue their lies and want the Right wing conservatives to keep quite. I am offended at the stupidity and blindness of the baby killing, abortionist, homosexual loving liberal attitudes and so is God like it or not, but I doubt that you will print this Biblical historical truth...

    Dear xii (or whatever)...

No, I wouldn't say "get over it", but I would recognize their right to free speech. I may get a bit upset, but I won't go postal either. Like I said earlier, what you believe in is your business...not mine...any other position is discriminatory or hypocritical.

What you would do? You only have a few options. 1) You can do nothing 2) You can voice your own opinions or 3) You can go bonkers and get violent.

    I certainly won't choose #3.
