Kennedy undergoes surgery for blockage

Doctors removed a blockage from Sen. Ted Kennedy's left carotid artery Friday.

BOSTON (CNN) - Doctors removed a blockage from Sen. Ted Kennedy's left carotid artery Friday, and the senator was said to be "fine."

Kennedy's office said the blockage was discovered "as part of a routine evaluation of Senator Kennedy's back and spine."

"MRI studies picked up an unrelated, asymptomatic blockage in the senator's left carotid artery," the office said in a written statement. "This morning, Senator Kennedy underwent preventive surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital to remove the blockage.

"The surgery, which was performed by Doctor Richard Cambria, was routine and successful. After a very brief recovery period, Senator Kennedy will resume his normal schedule in Washington and in Massachusetts."

Kennedy's doctors said they performed a carotid endarterectomy, which involves making a cut in the neck and pulling plaque out of the artery.

Cambria told reporters the surgery was routine and uneventful. He said Kennedy, 75, was resting comfortably and was drinking ginger ale, eating ice cream and looking forward to watching the Red Sox on television Friday night. The senator is expected to make a full recovery.

Typically, Cambria said, blockages are surgically corrected only if the artery is at least 70 percent blocked, and Kennedy's blockage was in that range.

This man is truly a sorry sorry being, and I am sorry but I have no respect for him whatsoever. Could really care less what happened to him as he cared less what happened to the Woman he MURDERED.

I am glad they removed the blockage. Maybe it will increase the circulation in his Cold Deviant Heart !

I'm sorry, but Kennedy should be tried for Treason and is an enemy of the US Constitution.

Were it not for Chappaquidick, the right-wing zealots would have nothing on Ted.

Attention all Americans, in the future you all will receive a "mulligan" for leaving an innocent woman to die at the bottom of a lake.

You must run like a coward, leaving her there, get together with your family and LAWYER, sober up, get a fake neck brace and then report it the NEXT DAY.

This will be called a "Kopechne".

Or however you want to dispose of someone. Your mulligan, your choice.

Your father will beg and BRIBE that they allow you into Harvard even though your grades stink, but after a payoff, they let you in.

You then get thrown out for CHEATING ON EXAMS.

As part of you "reward", you will never work a day in your life, be handed your Senate seat using your corrupt (Bootlegging and stock swindling) father's help and "influence".

You will drink incredible amounts of alcohol, along with your nephews you will treat woman as sex objects (whether they like it or not) and none of you will do any time (they also have muligans).

You will freely spend other peoples money and be deemed a man of the people even though you are wealthy beyond anyone, you have NEVER DONATED YOUR SALARY.

Illegal Immigration and anchor babies are your most reviled "ideas" and the majority of the people are against both of them, but you are loved.

You will do nothing but coast on your GOOD brothers names and their accomplishments.

Someone does not meet your philosophy, you can always "Bork" them.

You scream about the environment, but when they want to put wind farms on "Cape Cahd", you are against it and strong arm everyone who want's it.

You and others strong arm the state to only use union workers on the Big Pig project, the project is long overdue and costs 7 times more than it should, you say nothing, ribbon cutting time, you and the junior Senator are there front and center.

Woman get's killed, you and the junior Senator are nowhere to be found, Governor takes over and does great job in your absence.

You force state to name Greenway after your mother Rose, whose claim to fame is lobotomizing your sister as your parents didn't want her in the way of your families rise to fame.

Your brothers even with their "issues" were good people, so much that my parents named a brother after one of them, Teddy, you are NO Jack Kennedy.

I could go on, but CNN doesn't have enough hard drive space to handle my listing of the Kennedy scandals in full.

Anticipating problems is not something most of us–especially politicians–historically do very well. Undoubtedly, Senator Kennedy is grateful for a doctor that believes an "asymptomatic" lump is worth his attention. Why do we wait for something to become a "problem" before it gets our attention?

Since 1965, this sorry individual has done more to ruin immigration than any political figure in recent memory.

I wish you a speedy recovery sir, and I hope the procedure will free up enough blood to your brain that you will start to think critically about some of the laws you have had perpetrated on the American people.

Well wishes for a speedy recovery and an even speedier retirement. This man cares only about pandering to a bunch of criminals (illegal aliens) for corporate America's benefit instead of upholding the laws he swore to. His rich sorry a** sees nothing wrong with illegals popping out anchor baby after anchor baby much to the detriment of the American public schools and pulic services for AMERICAN citizens. His whole family is a bunch of corrupt thieves.

I am overwhelmed by the christian love shown for a man in all his human frailties. All of you christians, I know, are free of sin or civil transgressions. Senator Kennedy made a serious mistake and he has tried to redeem himself in any way he can. All of you who take cheap shots will have the tables turned on you and then we shall hear of you speak of forgiveness and redemption. You cheap shot artists, whiners and zealots, I hope neither you nor a member of your family has to experience half of the tragedy this good American endured. You are disgrace to America and what she stands for!!

  21. Tired of politics for buisness

Yes that is why America separated form the Catholic religion and established a government based on those that protested the control of government by Catechism and visa versa. It is in the constitution to rid control by such a fascist organizations and why the people were so concerned at ever having anyone other than a protestant to be in positions of responsibility.

The Kennedy’s are a sad note in our history. Just more of the spoiled rich boy’s syndrome,
between them and the ACLU, America has been under siege, including the Bush clan too.

Politicians seem to be protected from the consequences of their crimes in public or legislation.
How is that anyway? There are loafers on tax money and enjoy lobby money as well.
Scum bags of society. Limit terms to max of 8yrs in office. We need our government back today.

I'm actually from the Northeast...and I guess that qualifies me to say that Ted Kennedy is the very reason why the Senate needs term limits too. I love to hear the liberals defend this far left drunk (remember....he killed that girl when he was driving drunk...and didn't ever answer for it) – his "public service" was tossing billions of tax dollars at entitlement programs...the guy is politics at its worst....
