The governator takes charge

Watch Bill Schneider's report about California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

(CNN) - He's been an action hero in blockbuster Hollywood movies.  But, how's he doing now as California battles raging wildfires?  Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider reports on how Gov. Schwarzenegger, R-California, is handling the fires and has handled similar crises in the Golden State in the past.

This is why Arnold trounced Gray Davis and continues to be an effective (Republican) Governor in (liberal) California. He gets the job done for ALL Cal-ee-fornians

He has my vote when he runs for re-election.

I think Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is doing a fine job. Light years better than inept Ray Nagin of New Orleans who even got re-elected.

He did a great job when a TV new reported was just dying to find something negative. The lies from the liberals are already pouring in. The usual lies about not having enough National Guard because they're in Iraq is a blatant liberal democrat lie. Only 2,000 (8%) are in Iraq and there are over 17,000 here that can be used.

The lies about the equipment. What can a Humveee do against a firestorm?

I'm so sick of these lying liberals, especially on CNN, MSNBC and NBC.

To use this fire to bolster the liberals political agenda is sick and immoral. So what else is new?

Hey, CNN, why didn't you cover an American hero Michael Murphy who was given the MEDAL OF HONOR. I guess all that liberal democrat talk about loving the troops is BS.

I have to say, when Arnie was elected I was mad. I thought this was ajoke, a waste of time, stupid...

Man, was I wrong. This guy has turn out to be one darn good governor. He is probably an exampe of what a real Republican would be if it was not for the extreme right.

I think he is doing a good job.

complete photo-op..the mayor and 2 county supervisors just gushed all over him, one even got a hug...follow the money...the quote was 'the check is in the mail'.they slapped themselves on the back while san diego was burning..calfire would NOT fight the fire because they have contracts to extort the gov...the military was not allowed to put out the fire because the paper work would take over 3 days so they are grounded while we burn and boxer just showed up had a press conference and said 'it sure is hot here'...our marine and navy pilots are 1000% better than any Calfire sucking up a paycheck employee...i'm watching live

To James Ziolkowski in Kaisertown/Buffalo, NY

Please get your facts straight before you spout off at the mouth like the reactionary conservative dolt that you obviously are. CNN did cover Michael Murphy's award ceremony. As did those commie liberals at the New York Times and NPR.

Arnold will never be a candidate for the presidency no matter how hard he tries, he wasn't born in the US. Then again the Republicans might try to change that law too. I don't know why all these movie stars become politicians.

No pandering or finger pointing at the feds.., now there’s a governor that’s in control and cares about his constituents.
    OMG, it's a REPUBLICAN!!

When they find the people who started these fires if they did it intentionally they should put them in the gas chamber. The jails are full of violent murderers who will never reform and they are taking up space. Those two border patrol agents shouln't be in jail either. I hope that Hillary let's them go. No wonder no one wants to be a border patrol agent.

Let me just tell you something before I leave. I just talked to my sister in Oceanside,Cal. Do you know that there is white soot all over everywhere and Camp Pendleton is also covered with white soot. All but one gas station is closed. The Marines had to help with the fires because there is hardly any National Guard out there. The National Guard is over in Iraq. Walmart's parking lot is full of trailers, horses, pets and misplaced people. I am disqusted with this government!

    Luis in Los Angeles:

I couldn't agree more. I typically vote Democrat and was annoyed during the recall election – I thought it was a joke when I hear that the Arnold was running (although no one can deny that Gray Davis got what he deserved).

The Governator has done a fine job and should serve as an example for the rest of the Republican party.

Holy bleep karen, except for the Hillary part, I agree with everything you wrote.

My hope is that Romney will let them go (Bush is an @@@hole), but that is an argument for another day, for right now, WE AGREE.

This man is an example of how a polictican should handle his job...GW and his entire administratoin should spend some time in CA and learn the ropes...The Gov. has handled this situation and past situations like a trooper...we are on the opposite sides of the political spectrum but he does not behave like most republicans who wear their religion on there sleeve and judge others and seem to be hypocrites.

Tom Dedham..I don't hate you. You are a very annoying and persistent person. Of course my sister is okay. If she wasn't how could I talk to her. I had to call because I felt guilty. Thank you.

"I am disqusted with this government!"

    Posted by Karen, NJ

Since you're the natural diseaster relief expert, Karen, what EXACTLY is the "government" supposed to do in this case (wildfires) that they are NOT doing?

People are getting safe place to stay, food, water, support.

Funds are available to cover these costs from State and Federal resources once this was declared a natural disaster.

Insurance companies (I work for one) are providing benefits (money for temporary housing, food expenses, etc) and have people on the ground already to get life back to normal.

WHAT significant impact would having MORE National Guardsmen have?

You seem to be reaching for any excuse to "blame this administration" – regardless of how well the situation is being handled.

PS – I have family that live in Oceanside (I was born there – my dad was a Marine at Camp Pendleton). Those Marines deserve a big HOORAH for the selfless efforts they give – as well as all the aid workers and firefighters on the line.
