Huckabee denies involvement in reported push-polls

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee strongly denied Saturday any involvement in push-polling in New Hampshire that reportedly is conducted by a group supporting his presidential bid.

"As I've said before, our campaign has nothing to do with push polling, and I wish they would stop," Huckabee said in a statement. “We don't want this kind of campaigning because it violates the spirit of our campaign."

Huckabee's comments came after rival John McCain's campaign claimed it had received reports of push-poll phone calls "designed to disparage John McCain in an effort to advance Gov. Huckabee's campaign."

"Gov. Huckabee should immediately condemn these tactics and urge his supporters to stop this activity attempting to smear John McCain or any other candidate, and allow this campaign to be waged on the issues and each candidate's merits," McCain's New Hampshire Vice Chairman Chuck Douglas said in a statement released earlier Saturday.

The practice of push-polling is a political attack disguised as legitimate polling. Callers portray themselves as nonpartisan members of a polling organization, then provide negative or misleading information about a candidate in an effort to discourage voting for that person.

Last month, McCain asked the New Hampshire attorney general to investigate similar calls that appeared to target former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Why doesn't the Catholic Church get in to politics so we can really see what push polling can do. I am sick and tired with the election of this countries president being only about religion. This country began because of religion independence and now special interest religions are trying to tear it apart. I think we have come full cirle.

I liked this guy since he was a long shot candidate. However after he opened his mouth with the religion thing, that turned me off.

You are a sick person Jonathon. You are clearly NOT from that church and are posting this to drag Mike's name through the mud. No one from that church would publicly do that. Is this what this election comes to? Shame on you!

I'm curious why Huckobigot has locked up the sermons he delivered as a Baptist preacher. What exactly is hidden in that pandora's box that he is afraid of coming out? It is really easy seeing through Huckabee when he says he doesn't know anything about Mormons. Are you kidding me?!?! In my estimate, he is the one and only Baptist preacher who does not have a strong opinion of them. What would Jesus think of Huckabee's dishonest political tactics?

The Republican candidates this time around are absolutely HILARIOUS! As an Obama supporter, I personally can't wait to watch Barack debate these guys! Talk about an intellectual smackdown, Obama will make any member of this party shake in their boots...probably already is. Huckabee is another conservative clone, trapped in the wrong century. The days of American conservatism are coming to a close, blame your buddy Bush for that one kiddos! Then again, you geniuses voted for him (twice). Your party is is in shambles, better luck in like, 8 years!

It's Romney that is doing this, and he is just blaming Huckabee. Romney is a pathetic, pro-abortion, phony, flip-flopping liar.

Are you really this stupid? You need to educate yourself.

Huckabee has been the most pro-illegal candidate that there is. He fought for and has openly bragged about his work to get special tuition rates and scholarships for illegals, and stands by that position today! Just three weeks ago he was preaching "Open borders, open arms".
*NOW HE'S SOMEHOW MAGICALLY TOUGH ON ILLEGALS! Flip-Flop.

Huckabee is well known for his big tax and spending record, and leaving his state with a HUGE defecit while bankrupting many thousands.
*NOW HE KNOWS HOW TO CURE WHAT AILS US ECONOMICALLY AND HE'S AGAINST ALL TAXES! Flip-Flop.

Huckabee has shown his bigoted attitude time and time again with his comments against gays, women, and people of the Mormon faith, going so far as to actually preach against the church at an anti-Mormon rally! Do you actually want someone who preaches hate for a president?
*BUT HE'S A GOOD CHRISTIAN MINISTER WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT MORMONS, GAYS, AND OBVIOUSLY WOMEN. Flip-Flop.

Huckabee urged President Bush to lift the Cuban embargo.
*NOW HE HAS PROMISED CUBAN AMERICANS THAT HE WOULD VETO ANY LEGISLATION THAT WOULD LIFT THE EMBARGO. Flip-flop.

Huckabee has supported Bush across the line.
*NOW HE CALLS BUSH ON HIS "ARROGANT BUNKER MENTALITY". Flip-flop.
As if this man has ANY foreign affairs experience! NOT!
I find it interesting that Huckabee would approach the Taliban with open dialogue and have a cup of tea with them. But he openly preaches hate against good people in his own country.

He wants to run a "Clean campaign".
*ALTHOUGH HE HAS REPEATEDLY ATTACKED ROMNEY ON HIS RELEGION, SOCIAL STATUS, AND SUPPOSED FLIP FLOPPING.
HE CONVIENTLY KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE PUSH POLLS. Flip-flop.

Huckabee was investigated and indicted several times by the ethics committee.
    *NOW HE'S HONEST. Flip-flop.

Huckabee has done more flip flopping, and more backstabbing than all of the other candidates combined. I'm surprised that he hasn't given himself whiplash!
*HE HAS THE NERVE TO CALL ROMNEY A FLIP FLOPPER.

"But GARWSH he's just so cotton-pickin' down to earth! He's so funny with those one liners! And best of all, he fits my idea of what a Christian is! What more could we want in a fella?"

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE CLASS. SOME EDUCATION...ANY EDUCATION OTHER THAN HIS BA IN RELEGION. ECONOMIC EXPERIENCE. FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE. GENUINE HONESTY AND OPENNESS. BRAINS. AND A LITTLE DENTAL WORK WOULD BE NICE.

    Honestly-We could do FAR BETTER.

Going from Jesus II (Bush) to Jesus III (Huckabee) only makes things whose. Those who steal and lie, like Huckabee, (i.e. steal campaign ideas from other candidates, and lie about McCain on the phone)and play the Jesus card, are the lowest form of life.

"Huckabee denies involvement in reported push-polls" Ahh, the subtleties of biased journalism. Yes, Huckabee denied involvement, but he ALSO strongly denounced push polling...AGAIN. So instead of reporting the strong contempt with which he regards such tactics, you phrase it in this light. Quality journalism, CNN, quality journalism. (And no, I don't expect this to make it past the censors, er, moderators.)

    But really,

when you people say things like the only honest candidates are mike and mitt, you are truly deceived?

    MITT? really? seriously?

Has anyone actually done any research into ron paul?

He may be the under dog, but his base is largely with independents, who are not included in the polls, he is ignored by the mainstream media so hard that it is obvious, and he is still raising millions. Talk about grassroot support, all of his support is grass roots.

Look at his voting record. Listen to the man. HE is the onlyhonest one up there. There is no flip flopping, there are no skeletons in the closet.

K Wilkinson MG TX, beautiful comment – every time I see Huckabee flip-flop on issues I sure wish others would call this guy on it. Let's just keep adding to this post each time he does it and call him on it.

    Amen to this one:
I would like to see CNN do a thorough interview with Huckabee and ask him why he destroyed his hard drives before he left office as Governor of Arkansas last year. He got very defensive when asked about it by the state press and he needs to be taken to task about it. He and his wife also removed a lot of furniture from the Governor's mansion.

    Ditto to this comment:

Not sure if I can believe old Huck. He likes to come off as a likable, innocent and kind person. I think we are all intelligent enough to see through the act.

Huck has quite a few scary things in his past. In the last week, we have learned the following about him:

1 – he is soft of criminals, especially rapists turned murders.

2 – he is ignorant about AIDS and dare I say homo-phobe. Shipping AIDS victims off to all live and die together? Niiiiicccceeee.

3 – he believes women should be submissive to men. There goes half of the voting population.

4 – I believe that old Huckleberry is a religious bigot. I don't believe for one minute that a baptist preacher can ask an "innocent" question about Mormon doctrine. He knew it would cause some stir in the media and so he put that out there to damage Mitt.

This is all in one week people. Give the media another week or two and we are going to know ALL sorts of goodies about Huck.

I'll pass. He doesn't have the integrity, intelligence or character of a president.

After hearing the democratic debate in S.C. tonight I KNOW I will NOT vote for any of them and will be changing parties. My eye is on Mike Huckabee.H e has been the one and only honest one as yet. These three tonight seemed to care o nly about Black America and pretended poor Whites don't exist. All three of them. The fighting is outrageous.I am highly insulted by the way they have pictured Blacks as be so neglected when we know better.Americans are NOT blind OR stupid. If three people doid more to seperate country then these three I don,t know about it. Say what you will about Mr. Huckabee I think he would,if there is even one,the best for our country. He is,so far the only one who isn't out for himself.
