Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary

Bill Clinton said former president George H.W. Bush will help fix damage done to America's reputation by his son, George W. Bush.

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president - Bush's son, George W. Bush.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.

A spokesman for the George H. W. Bush said Tuesday afternoon the former president supports his son's foreign policy and has "never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton." (Click here for the full statement)

Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton's comments:

"In 2009, a Republican president will be working with our friends and allies abroad to continue to keep our nation safe," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "The American people expect our leaders - both current and former - to present serious solutions to the very real challenges confronting our nation."

- CNN South Carolina Producer Peter Hamby

Clinton's ineptitude allowed radical Islamicfascism to rise under his watch. Bill should think twice when he accuses Bush of damaging the USA's reputation. Safety from Global Terrorism is far more important than a country's reputation.

Yes, they started a charity for Katrina victims because they wanted to characterize those folks as needful of charity. And,,because the federal govt under G W Bush failed to do what was expected of the Govt to do in times of emergency.

To me, it makes me a bit nervous that the Bushes and Clintons are getting so comfortable.

    Does this seem right?:

Come on people. This is rediculous. You can't have change if you keep trying to vote the same people in. BTW, Hillary is more like Bush than Bill (Pro-War, Pro-Corporation)

    Obama/Edwards or Edwards/Obama '08

I think the last thing we need is for a Bush to further be seen as the face of America.

I'm not a conspiracy theorists – but comments like this from Bill Clinton make me really wonder... Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton...

GH-Bush has been very protective of his son, our President. What makes Bill Clinton think Bush-41 won't come out publically to denounce his statement?

Bill Clinton has been doing some pretty odd things for being a "consumate" politician.

Great...just what America needs!! Not one, but two buffons, and the father of a buffon! God help us all. You don't think George Sr. aided his son?? This is the kind of "old" stagnant politics we are talking about!!!

As your neighbour, please no more divisive politics!! These two had their chance and are not as highly regarded by the rest of the world as Americans believe.

Everyone I know who is reading about your election with their fingers crossed that your election will result in someone who will unite your countrym and restore your credibilty as a world leader.

You just can't make this stuff up with this guy!

He not only slams "W" for " losin' " all credibility in the world (that's a real big yawn here …), but says that HE and HWB will fix that when Hillary is elected! He insults the son on his foreign policy, and expects the dad to pitch in and "fix it". Incredible. The chutzpah of this guy has no limits.

Ya know how you can get those other folks to "like us" (who really cares if they don't!) again, Slick … stop all Foreign Aid to them. They'll be on our doorstep in a heartbeat.

seriously.. Here is a guy who wants America to foot the bill because he cheated on his wife.

Folks, let's all cheat on our partners and promise them the Presidency as a consolation price when they threaten to leave us, and then make the American people pay for our lust by voting our partners in office.Ole Bill has figured the trick out....

It's all about money and power...

  16. We can do better than Hillary

Sure. Sending someone out into the world whose name happens to be George Bush is such a good idea.

    Bill Clinton has gone insane.

Hillary has run the nastiest campaign that I have ever seen.

I hope that America is paying close attention.

Where do you see negative remarks about Hillary in this article? I don't see any misogyny here, so please save your outrage.

First, I think the article clearly is trying to make much out of a simple comment, second I believe that it is good for former presidents to put forth to the world that they represent the face of the nation united with a sitting president. You mean to tell me that Obama wouldn't do something like this? some of your comments are borderline moronic. then again most of the hillary-haters have nothing else to offer. we need change that will unite this country, Obama is not talking about how to move forward with our system of government, he is talking about tearing it down, we had our founding fathers to thank for this great country and no 1 term senator is going to change it overnight. Sen. Obama is ignorant or chooses to ignore our way of government, the only reason why pres. Bush hasn't burned the country down is because checks and balances but when you listen to Obama you see the other side of the coin and it is not pretty either. I want to see a government that is serios about putting forth mechanisms that will ENABLE every day Americans pursue their own hapiness, I don't need a preacher in the white house, I see him every Sunday at Church already.

Nice try Bill. You're a great diplomat and I admire that. But if you think "Senior" is going to piss of "Junior" by touring with Hillary, you're delusional. Maybe you've been inhaling?

Oh you have to love it. Hillary needs to show a softer side and parades out friends and tears up.

What's next Bill showing up, looking into the camera, making his chin quiver as he chokes up and says "I feel your pain".

Just what sort of fools for this lady?

The ugly truth is begining to gome out. We can clearly and truly see there are some elephants disguising as horses but their size gives them away!

I'm sure we Americans know better than to let the Bushes and Clintons blind fold us all and continue to take us for a ride. I told ya, the Clintons will roll on the floor, cry or weep (whichever seems appropriate) on demand to get votes.

What's bill demanding now? Is it for Bush Senior to endorse Hillary? It will be the greatest shame of all if we ever let a Bush or Clinton come close to residing in the White House again.

We have a population of more than 350 millions. I'll be the last person to think that we can't find smarter and more sincere people than the Bushes and the Clintons.

There is no 'sneakier' politician than the Clintons – especially Bill. This guy played us like a violin. Now the wife wants to play us like a fiddle.

Wake up America! Bring back the glorious days and vote Obama/Edwards '08.
