Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary

Bill Clinton said former president George H.W. Bush will help fix damage done to America's reputation by his son, George W. Bush.

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president - Bush's son, George W. Bush.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.

A spokesman for the George H. W. Bush said Tuesday afternoon the former president supports his son's foreign policy and has "never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton." (Click here for the full statement)

Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton's comments:

"In 2009, a Republican president will be working with our friends and allies abroad to continue to keep our nation safe," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "The American people expect our leaders - both current and former - to present serious solutions to the very real challenges confronting our nation."

- CNN South Carolina Producer Peter Hamby

Bring back survial of the fitest and let's put an end to this experiment in reverse darwinism that we call a progressive society..

Millions of middle class hard working Americans have lost their jobs to Mexico and Communist China , because of these two Republicans, now lets not reward them with a Hillary Presidency. She will force all Americans to buy high priced health insurance from her donors to her campaign.
She will also reward those illegals, coming across the boarder, to undermine the wages of the American middle class worker.
    Don't be fooled again,
    Hillary is a Republican!

TB, just to clarify it's buffoon, not buffon...I would give you the typo benefit of the doubt but you did it twice, and I see this thing has spellcheck. Just thought that if you're going to insult someone you should at least spell the insult correctly, otherwise you're left looking like a buffon!

The fact Bill Clinton is so involved in his wife's campaign is reason #1 not to elect her.

You had your 2 terms, and we have term limits for a reason.

    Move on.

With friends like that, who needs enemies? The rest of the world will not be cozy with another Bush.

Let's change this long running nightmare.

They can patch things up with all the leaders that opposed Bush on Iraq. Oh wait! They've already been thrown out of office by their own citizens. Former President Bush is a sucker for thinking that Clinton wanted him for anything but political reasons.

Of course the Clinton News Network (CNN) will announce something like this without checking with Bush SR., Why is he even making plans for what he will do, she has not been annointed president yet.

come on people – it is not the job of the federal government to do anything other than what the constitution says. read it, or at least the 10th amendment. To review, it clarifies what is already in the constitution, that being; powers not granted to the United States (federal government) are reserved to the States or to the people. All the rhetoric amounts to is lazy people wanting a handout and feeling deserving of another entitlement. Can you say redistribution of wealth? Why would one ever aspire to do anything when the government is willing to take care of you – the more you depend on the government the more power they have. The more power they have allows them to grab more and you are all so willing to give up your freedom so someone can wipe your nose or butt.
it didn’t work out for eastern Europe and the communists so why do you think it will work here? Are you all that lazy or afraid.

This is another reason not to vote for Hillary. Aligning with Bush is just one more way to say to the American people that she is in with the same old group that has been running this country for decades. Can she be that dense as to send somebody with the Bush name out in the world to represent America?

To those of you who object to another Clinton because Bill Clinton also served failed to observe the big difference in Clinton and Bush I & II.
Hillary is a huge change from Bush II as was Bill Clinton a huge change from Bush I.
For example, what has happend to the Clinton surplus under Bush?

This story should be redacted and apologized for – it is entirely unfounded by factual evidence; I must ask, when did Pres. GHW Bush say that he will repair the damage done by his son? Or is this the biased opinion of the CNN South Carolina Producer? That answer is rather obvious – its says he was not available for comment... good reporting.

And you wonder why the FoxNews crowd calls CNN biased....

"Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary"

I'm not a hillary fan but that headline is greatly misleading... Bush Sr. is not helping Hillary... He is doing what all former presidents do and what he has done since he left office... Be an ambassador for this country. Your headline makes it seem as though Bush Sr. is campagning for her.

Just what we need...a womanizer and a dope...going around telling people we're their buddy. Hillary would just want to get rid of the pig, and Bush is a harmless old elf that didn't do much good in office and can't do much harm on the road. That "woman" will NEVER be elected!

There is no way that the elder President Bush would agree to this. It shows the arrogance of Bill Clinton to even suggest it. There is no possible way that Hillary will be elected. Fred 08.

George H.W. Bush needs to come out right away and repudiate this wild and untrue statement that Bill Clinton made

The Bush's have never learned the deadly game of political infighting that Bush1 learned firsthand from George Mitchell in 1991. Bush1 and or W needs to slap clinton down for this statement, publically – AND HARD

Both Clinton and Bush's senior have alot of foreign policy experience; it would help alot more than one with no experience in this area like Obama and Huckabee.

Restore our reputaton in the world = we won't attack you if you attack us as we didn't when Slick Willy was president. Hitlery will lose BIG in '08 for the same reason CNN is a joke compared to Fox News, the majority of the American people remember 9/11 and don't buy bogus polls cleverly crafted to show massive anti-war sentiment when none exists. GO RUDY!!!!

Bill is losing it at his old age. Do we really thinking H.W. Bush is going to out to the world and admit that his son was a bad president? No way H.W. would throw his son under the bus like that.

    No more Bush/Clinton!!!
