Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush will help President Hillary

Bill Clinton said former president George H.W. Bush will help fix damage done to America's reputation by his son, George W. Bush.

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America's reputation by the current president - Bush's son, George W. Bush.

"Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again," Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife's "number one priority" would be as president.

A spokesman for the George H. W. Bush said Tuesday afternoon the former president supports his son's foreign policy and has "never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton." (Click here for the full statement)

Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton's comments:

"In 2009, a Republican president will be working with our friends and allies abroad to continue to keep our nation safe," said RNC spokesman Danny Diaz. "The American people expect our leaders - both current and former - to present serious solutions to the very real challenges confronting our nation."

- CNN South Carolina Producer Peter Hamby

I agree totally with Jesse from Burnsville, MN. I'll take Edwards or Obama or even Ron Paul over the rest of these corporate schills. And especially no more Clintons or Bushes. It has nothing to do with gender. Let's PROGRESS out of this negative feedback loop we're caught in.

'around the world to tell "THEM" that we are open for business and cooperation again'.

    what does this mean?
    it says nothing?

for saudis to attend flight schools.
to allow terrorists do set off explosives at the world trade center?
to allow massive number of more illegals to enter USA?
to have iraquis set off another okla city?
to allow iran and n. korea to do what they please.
to sell more defense secrets to chinese with bernard schwartz in charge.
to have more illegal funding of political campaigns which is against the law.

hey, charlie trie and john huang!

put madame albright in charge of bribery?

what does george "patrician" bush have to say?

I am concerned that my teenagers will not know a president who is neither a Bush or a Clinton. Time for a change.
What does this say about our democracy?

Could Hillary , like G.W. really be the best choice out there? I am doubtful.

More desperation to save that hag from poltical destruction. Has anyone noticed lately how France is cozing up. Germany mighty friendly as of late and England still there and African nation's never joined the choir because of Bush AID's help..who's still mad at us? ..The Balinese? Cuban's? or the frightful Somoans. I'll stick with the 50% that are still our friends. The other 505 ain't worth spit.

I knew BJ Clinton was sleazy but who knew this piece of white trash could go so low. How about this, Chief Rat, when the repubs keep the WH in 2009, we can send you to your donor friends in Saudi Arabia, where they can teach you what should be done with rapists and thieves.

We needed GW Bush to repair America after eight years of the Rapist Clinton, who bombed innocent people in Serbia and allowed al Qaeda to metastasize while he was busy raping America. No, we do not want him working to "restore" America – George W. Bush is doing that already. That is why the Dems are so frustrated – we are winning in Iraq!

Bill is losing touch with reality. Does he really think George H.W. will tour the world arm-in-arm with him telling the world what a f-up his on was and that "we're open for business again?" Of course not. Man, if I was Hillary I'd find a nice beach for my husband to sit on until after Feb. 5. He is hurting her. As an Obama supporter I'm loving it though. Actually, keep it up abut Obama's "madrassa" story a little bit more.

Instead of reaching the easiest conclusions that people do not want a woman for president, I'd encourage you to look at what Hillary SAYS vs what Hillary DOES, because there is not enough congruency for me. Also I can't see how anyone can be comfortable with the big corporate bucks and believe that no favors will be expected–is that what we have seen in the past in politics? As far as this article: Are the Clintons TRYING to lose? You gotta be kidding me trotting this man around after the 8 years of hell we had. GHWB was elected only once for a reason. But please do this because Edwards and Obama will do better now, thank you.

I look forward to the next President Clinton. Frankly being "sick of" the leaders we have does not change the leaders we have.
Obama is so unqualified it defies all sanity to consider him for the White House. As for the GOP – I see none that can take the reigns in this dangerous time. Clinton is the only person running who makes a lick of sense. And – hey – after centuries of men – it's time for a woman.

Danny Diaz, in 2009 you will be out of a job. The American people do not need another Republican president. You already did enough damage, we no longer wish to live in fear while our tax dollars go to feed your friends at businesses like Halliburton and Blackwater. Your war is coming to an end, your control of the American people by fear will end in 2009 with any one of the Democrats taking the lead in undoing your damage....just as Clinton describes. Wake up, because we the people are taking our country back!

I'm sure the surviving people of RWANDA and SOMALIA will welcome President & Mrs. Offshore, with extremely open minds. I also have some waterfront property in NOLA you might like, if you think the Midnight Cowprod IS up to anything of actual value, beyond whitewashing his limp narcissistic legacy. Oh well. BILLARY HAPPENS.

Dude – this is wrong on SOOO many different levels. Open mouth and insert foot. She really needs him to stop speaking – now. Many posters have claimed that he wants her to loose and I can't say I disagree. If he cheats on her while she is in the White House, he is in more trouble than any guy in history. It looks more and more like the Bush / Clinton dynasty is finally over - to the benifit of We the People.

In what lifetime does this former disgraced president think he can restore our image? Isn't he still trying to rehabilitate his own tarnished image? President Bush's father is showing statesmanship by extending the courtesy to Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton should not assume it will be extended to his wife particularly when she calls the president a liar and someone who misled the country. Mrs. Clinton won't win this election anyway, so Bill Clinton can fantasize all he wants. It's not going to happen.

"...America is open for business and cooperation again"

Translation: "Please like us, please, please, please! We will be appeasers! We'll give you hundreds of millions of dollars and look the other way when you undermine our country if you will just be our friends!"

    Absolutely pathetic!

Any Democrat in the WH will open us up for terrorist attack, and weaken our sovranty!

Proof that Billy lives in some other reality where the meaning of "is" in negotiable.

America does not need any former Presidents kowtowing to tin-pot dictators (sorry Jimmy, come home).
