Elder Bush nixes Clinton trip idea

Bill Clinton said Monday he and former President Bush would go on a diplomatic mission if Hillary Clinton became president.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush has shot down his successor Bill Clinton’s idea of a diplomatic mission under a Hillary Clinton presidency that would send him and other notables abroad to assure other nations that “America is open for business and cooperation again.”

The move came one day after Bill Clinton made the suggestion on the campaign trail in South Carolina, in response to a question from a supporter about his wife’s “number-one priority” upon reaching the White House.

In a statement sent to CNN Tuesday afternoon, former President Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said that he “wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy.

“President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for president, and looks forward to discussing their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

–CNN's Rebecca Sinderbrand

Excuse me but shouldn't have the former impeached president waited until waiting till after the election to start salivating over how great things are gonna be? Hot dog! Man oh trips, Air Force One, millions pouring in just for putting his hand out. Yes, life is good for the clintons. The hell with the rest of us! Too bad there's a messy election coming which will make their look like the idiots they are when they LOSE!

I see the Bush family approach to foreign policy remains the same:
"We'll kill 'em but we absolutely, positively, under no circumstances intend to talk to them first"

It is so typical of the Republicans to value paritisanship over the good of the country. George Bush is one of the most respected figures our country has in the international arena. It is a crime he was utilized so little by his son's adminstration, and sad to see that he would refuse to help the next admistraton if it dares to change course from his son's failed policies.

At least all the other candidates try to tell the truth. Now he is volunteering other people??? Bill and Hillary seem to be hung on lies ('i never had sex with that woman', 'Hilary is the most experienced'). All the Magic from Johnson or whoever will not help!

Well, we now understand who will be in charge if Hillary wins. How desperate are these people for power? Insulting and breaking unwritten protocol against a standing president and speaking for Bush 41 without permission. They seem to thrive on a consistent palate of LIES, LIES and more LIES !!!!

NOW you know why Gore never asked Bill to help him with his campaign...he knows him better than anyone except for his wife. He will bring Hillary down. I predict this if Hillary looses doesnt become president she will divorce Bill.

Bill, you should have checked w/ HW Bush before making a statement that involving him.

It's a good idea, however, I don't know what Hillary has to do with it.

I mean, if someone other than Hillary gets nominated, would you refuse to go because it's not Hillary? If someone other than Hillary gets nominated, would you refuse to help them when asked? Is the only way to access to you is through Hillary? I doubt this. You like people. You like to be helpful. You like to build a good legacy for you.

Besides the fact that Bush 41 shot this down, let's not forget what the question that Bill was answering...WHAT IS PRIORITY NUMBER 1 FOR HILLARY WHEN SHE'S PRESIDENT...

Really? Sending these 2 old guys out is priority number 1? Even if Bush would go along with it (which he never would per the inference), the answer to the question is ridiculous. I can think of about 100 more important things to do before this would take place.

Hillary will lose the nomination, there's been a shift. I'm not even sure if Bill wants here in there.

It depends on your definition of "H.W. Bush"

Bill Clinton spoke out of turn and owes the other Former President an apology for making this assumption.Hey who knows an apology might be the first sincere thing he ever does.

AS an attorney in LA, I went to a lecture to be able to tell when a deponent is lying during a deposition or on the stand. BILL CLINTON WAS USED AS THE EXAMPLE OF A PATHALOGICAL LIAR. Go figure. This guy just can't help himself. I think he does not want Hill to win. Keep talking Bill, good job, we love you out here, especially when you prove why we don't want this queen wanna be back in the white house.

Is this the same Bill Clinton whose top aide came on FOX News, shortly after Bill stepped off his throne, to be asked; "So, what was the overall emphasis of the Clinton administration?...what was the general policy?
Wherein the top aide blurted out; "Policy!? What policy!?"

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing...I'm sure part of that was merely relief the sack of puss was finally out of office.

Former President Clinton, please do not make stupid public statements that will embarass your wife's campaign or the Democratic Party. I am a supporter of your wife's efforts, but PLEASE, these few weeks are terrible. Between you and Shaheen, oh my god... what are you guys thinking?????

You just gotta love lousy CNN for yet again giving slickwillie his out by mischaracterizing what he said as "an idea", "a suggestion".

Clinton said 'his wife "INTENDS" "is GOING to" send him and Bush...' – sounds to me like Clinton is intimating this has been set up and all that needs to happen is for his wife to be elected President.

So the Clinton News Network instead of calling it the lie it was now provides Clinton the ability to squirm out of the lie by saying "oh, that was just a thought I had".

All those old rabid Clinton haters still around and posting here it looks like. Y'know every time I read the bile the spews from their twisted mouths I realize that there really is a qualitative difference between Rupublicans and Democrats. You people make me sick. I, for one, suspect that Bush Sr. did indeed make some sort of comments like this to Clinton but Sr. backed off when it was made public so as to save his son the embarrassment. Why do I think that? Because who in their right mind would be '100% supportive' of Jr's wretched excuse for "foreign policy" even if he were related? Who was it in Canada that called Jr. a Moron? You bozos, on the other hand, are the same ones who tore the country apart because of something someone did in his private sex life and because he would not just roll over for the dog and pony show you made of it – but you are willing to let boy George's countless real criminal offenses go. Oh, sorry if I offended. How's it feel.

As an African American male I feel that this country is looking for any excuse not to elect a great black man as president. The Clintons can promote lies and constant racial slurs about Obama on CNN and nobody says anything. Bill Clinton has lied everyday and noone questions him on it. This country is a joke. I have noticed the media pusing Edwards for the last 2 weeks. This country will be in the same predicatment 4 years from now and the people will be begging for Obama in 2012. This country does not deserve Obama. They want to continue the political bickering. Hold your head up Obama!

Those Clintons are not only arrogant but not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed to think Bush senior would approve of his trashing his son's presidency. Although Clinton failed to act on Al Quaida and Bin Laden after the USS Cole and the first bombing of twin towers ... his administration was not another disaster like Carter's with runaway inflation, double digit interest rates and a ruinous foreign policy (IRAN) which we are still trying to recover from.
