Elder Bush nixes Clinton trip idea

Bill Clinton said Monday he and former President Bush would go on a diplomatic mission if Hillary Clinton became president.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush has shot down his successor Bill Clinton’s idea of a diplomatic mission under a Hillary Clinton presidency that would send him and other notables abroad to assure other nations that “America is open for business and cooperation again.”

The move came one day after Bill Clinton made the suggestion on the campaign trail in South Carolina, in response to a question from a supporter about his wife’s “number-one priority” upon reaching the White House.

In a statement sent to CNN Tuesday afternoon, former President Bush’s chief of staff Jean Becker said that he “wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an ‘around-the-world-mission’ with either former President Bill Clinton or Sen. Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of hope for freedom and democracy.

“President Bush is excited about several of the excellent Republican candidates running for president, and looks forward to discussing their candidacy once the Republican nominee is determined.”

This is at best immature, at worst delusional. Can you see these two back in the White House? I predict she will divorce him once she looses the nomination.

Also, exactly what would they fix – really – what would they do to fix our image and with who? Nobody can directly answer this!

I note that Clinton has the sense not to suggest sending that fool George W. as an emissary of cooperation and progress. Good lord, I don't think most places would even let the plane land.

Of course the Bushes could never consider doing anything bipartisan for once. Instead of working together for the good of the whole, they place more importance on parties and labels.

Personally, I think the Clintons are old school and boring, but I think Bill has the right idea here when it comes to reaching across party lines.

Oprah for secretary of state... now that is interesting and funny at the same time. Somehow though I feel like she could do a better job versus our current administration.

American people is not ready for lady president at this distrubing period of US history. Dems would wait for at least 4 more years before they can see the light at the end of the tunnel

Despites the self made polls. They're not true 90% of times. Money can not buy vote anymore nowaday

Great idea but he should have checked with Bush senior first.

It is going to take a lot of diplomacy on everybodies part to repair the damage Bush two has done and all the neo cons.

to grace D. Washington right on. I'm lovin'it. but the serious side to all this is really sad for America. For any one to even consider those two, hill-billy duo. she says "provern leader – readiness to lead – clintons only lead the way to the darkest side of polotics that most Americans never see and hate to admit to lets get someone in our Whitehouse that we can trust. As much as I disagree with most of Obamas socialistic views he's still honest. With the hill-billy duo honesty, ethics, not there. they have no conscience never will admit guilt, only concern is to distroy anything outside of their little world of power, controll and to destroy just a game to them.

I find it difficult to believe that Bill Clinton even made such a comment to begin with. If this wasn't CNN I would think it is some make believe stunt to spew more bad publicity about Bill and Hillary. I support Obama as the democratic candidate. I find some of the moves made by the Clinton foundation difficult to understand.

It was just a simple gaffe; President Clinton and President George H.W. Bush spend a lot of time together and they are friends. They even co-created a relief orginization. Bill simply thought his friend was on his side and would play ball; not really remembering that their 'enemy' is his friends son...

What is more pathetic is the knee-jerk love/hate fanatisism on both sides of the aisle... Grow up and quit being intellectually dishonest...

People, stop being so small minded. Regardless the motives of Bill Clinton, (and the stupidity of such an idea as this while Bush Sr's son is in office), let us admit that George W has been a disaster. Enough of the petty bickering on both sides. Will we never come to grips that this country and everything it stands for is in trouble and no amount of pretty speeches, guns, bombs, and human lives sacrificed will make things better in the world if there is not a change here at home? Lies, deceit and corporate greed run rampant and the only eventual outcome to this will be the demise of our beloved America. And what kind of a sewer are we leaving our children? Stop taking the mood and mind altering pharmaceuticals (psyche meds) and get real. Wake up before it is too late and realize the joke has been on us.

What I don't understand is why he is campaining for his wife. Should the dog be out doing it herself? Why in the world would former President Bush help a democrat anyway...it just goes to show that the Clinton's are full of lies and will continue to be.

Shot down? I don't think so! I don't really care what Bush Sr or Jr has to say about anything anymore. His comments at the end are just laughable, what planet is he living on? Get over yourselves...a new day is about to dawn.

Thank goodness. The last thing a Clinton Presidency would need would be for a Bush to be involved in her administration, especially with regard to foreign policy.
