Rice calls Huckabee comment 'ludicrous'

Rice had some sharp words for Mike Huckabee Friday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told reporters Friday that Mike Huckabee’s recent comments criticizing some aspects of Bush administration foreign policy were “ludicrous.”

“The idea that somehow this is a ‘go it alone’ policy is just simply ludicrous. And one would only have to be not observing the facts, let me say that, to say that this is now a ‘go it alone foreign policy,” said Rice.

In an article in the January/February issue of Foreign Affairs, released last week, the Republican presidential candidate characterized the Bush administration’s foreign policy as an “arrogant, bunker mentality.”

Many of Huckabee's GOP presidential rivals have attacked him for that description. Mitt Romney, who now trails Huckabee in the key early-voting state of Iowa, has kept up a steady stream of criticism over the Foreign Affairs piece – at a campaign event Wednesday, he again said the former Arkansas governor had made a "significant error in insulting the president."

President Bush himself declined to comment on Huckabee’s piece when asked about it during a press conference yesterday.

UPDATE: Speaking to CNN's John King Friday, Huckabee said he has "great respect" for Rice, but questioned whether she had read the article.

"I'm not sure if she's actually read the article, or maybe she's reacting to the headlines, because I think some of the people who have spoken about it when asked have admitted they have not actually read the article and what I was specifically referencing."

"I wasn't criticizing the president, who I'm very fond and think has handled the overall situation of protecting America quite well," Huckabee continued. "I've been very complimentary of him, particularly the surge, but if we are so unable to point out policy differences and how things would change under a new administration, then maybe we shouldn't run for president, we'll just keep the current one in office."

I never fail to be amazed at the arrogance of people who think that Huckabee has to have a foreign policy of his own before he criticizes Bush's or that it is disrespectful or treasonous to criticize a sitting president.

Mr. Huckabee, you won't get my vote but you have my undying respect for telling it like it truly is.

Condoleeza, get over your wounded ego and tell your boss that he needs to bring our troops home NOW! I know he won't listen, but at least make the effort.

To the person who asked why we blew off the UN, I ask, in what world have you been living??>/P

The U.N. is almost as worthless as Jimmy Carter was when he was President! How many years did Saddam take billions in the oil for food scandal while the U.N. did nothing about it? How many years of sanctions did he ignore? How many of his own people did he kill and the Un>n did nothing about it? How about the U.N. and their "Human Right Committee and who they placed on it? Start reading buddy, you are so uninformed! The U.N. is a worthless waste money organization and we are the major funders of it!/P>

I think Huckabee has hit the nail on the head about Pres. Bush being arrogant and that has effected the President's relationship with the world. I've always said that Bush is "stubborn and an international disaster". Yet another reason I'm voting for Huckabee on Super Tuesday.

Huck will NEVER be considered presidential material and he is a liability to the Republican Party. Many kudos to Mitt for nailing this one.

Rice is personnaly responsible for the high use of oil. She has been flying to or returning from the middle east since they made the secretary of state, she has accomplished absolutely nothing and the stupidity of this admin to have a female secretary of state in a world where their religion of thousands of years forbids the woman and men to associate in any way shape or form in public ,and this dumbest ever leadership relates to this admin] to insult millions of muslims by trying to force them to accept someone against there life long relgion. sec Rice is not the sharpest knife in the draw and to put this task on her is more ridiculous every attempt she makes.

Um, last time I checked, Condi Rice's credibility account was in the negative.

At this point, I think America will believe the words of Mr. Lying L. McLiarson before they believe Condi.

For crying out loud, Condi Rice could say "water is wet" and Americans would STILL be suspicious of her statement! "

That silly woman must not be "looking at the facts" when she spews forth words and expects anyone to take her seriously.

    Steve Blaine Washington said:
"Negative comments in a national forum regarding the conduct of war or foreign affairs in regard to that very war on a sitting President encourage action by combatants on the other side and cost American lives. If this type of action is legal it certainly should not be legal."

I must point out to you that Theodore Roosevelt stated during World War I:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

I don't think you would find many who would consider President Roosevelt to have been a person who gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

Huckabee is becoming a pretty good liar for a former Baptist preacher.

He may end up giving Hillary a run for her money in the "say one thing then accuse the listener of mistaking their point" category.

This guy has absolutely NO credibility on anything other than abortion (good enough for the evangelicals obviously) and good ole fashion likeability (i know, this has got more than a few idiots into the White House of late).

He better steer clear of foreign policy because NO ONE has any degree of confidence in his abilities here.

I rarely agree with former Governor Huckabee on anything.

However, his assessment of the Bush Administration's "arrogant, bunker metality" is right on target. Secretary Rice will share the blame for the worst foreign policy decisions in the history of the Republic; and that is why she made the stupid remarks we see here.

But the real culprit for these failures is President Bush. He should be arrested and jailed for where he has taken this country.

His adminstration is the worst ever.

Whats more "ludicrous" is that its true and Huckabee should not apologize! Everyone except this adminstration knows that it is a 'go it alone' operation. I guess we need to define "alone" for W. Maybe he does not understand the word or concept??

I love it when Repbulicans begin to eat their own. Mittens Romney is the biggest "brown noser" I've ever seen. I give Huckabee credit. He has the stones to speak the truth. Calling this administration's foreign policy as an "arrogant, bunker mentality" is giving Condi, GW and Cheney way too much credit. I think this administration's policy is tied to big oil, private war contractors and other big business interest pure and simple.

Huck was only speaking the truth when he used the phrase "arrogant. bunker mentality." I can't think of a time when Condi, or her boss for that matter, have ever spoken the real truth without hiding something.
