Top Giuliani staffers to go without pay

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/01/11/art.giulianistaff.ap.jpg caption="Top Giuliani staffers are going without a salary in January, CNN has learned."] MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) - CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida...Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"

The officials did not immediately provide a number of staffers who were subject to the new policy. Nor would campaign officials disclose the amount of money the campaign had in the bank.

UPDATE: The Giuliani campaign reports as of December 31 it has $12.7 million cash on hand, of which over $7 million can be used for the primary contests.

The only reason why this would pose a problem is if people working understood they would be paid.

People volunteer behind their candadite all the time. Or at least they should.

    I know I have!!

that's a great way to keep up staff morale. Go Rudy! Didn't you make millions off your 9/11 fame? Spend your own cash if you wanna be president so bad, why don't you?

Giuliani has no chance of winning. He's broke. He's wasting all his time and resources in Florida.

Huckabee was on CNN this morning and said he didn't release that convicted serial rapist- he just paroled him. Parole and release many the same thing! And of course the CNN lady just sat there and didn't call him on it. What sorority did you get her from???

Your done Rudy...your strategy is helping both John McCain and Mike Huckabee. My opinion is Ruby and Romney are finished in this race. Thompson and Huckabee may stick it out for a while but will eventually fade and drop out. Who wins the nomination and presidency? John McCain and Joe Lieberman will beat Obama and hjis running mate Edwards handily.

And who is going to win?

Huck, the Christian pacifist socialist nannystater?
    McCain, the grumpy old RINO?
    Mitt, the flip-flopper?

Rudy isn't doing well, but he towers over those guys

If you are a suppporter, send him cash!

If you can give me Barack Oboma vs. either Giuliani or Fred Thompson, I will not care about the election this year. Oboma is a bad ass and so is Giuliani and Fred. If you have liberal view vote Giuliani and if you have conservative views then vote Fred... McCain is not a badass and ran very divisive campaigns when he ran for senate. Huckabee is like a republican version of Howard Dean (He says stupid things). Ron Paul is just planning on running as a third party and probably gets money from MoveOn.soros and other extreme organizations (even if he is serious he does not represent the ideas of democrats enough for me to vote for him.).

Why is this being raised negatively ....it is actually a great demonstration of his fiscal conservatism and his abilities to manage and lead a campaign trading off various options to win the Rep nomination.Don't let his Rep competitors fool you along with most of all, the liberal media who know that Rudy would be a formidable candidate against Hillary or Obama ie especially Hillary. They are trying to stop him anyway they can !

CNN is not going to question Hillary and her no women is illgal statement of yesterday in Nevada.

Is CNN going to an analysis of the economic policies of the D front runners to show the American people just how much of their money is going to dissappear. They calim to be for the middle class, but all of us in the middle are going to have less to spend when they get done giving everything to everybody.

With all the millions of dollars Rudy made by cashing on on 9/11, you'd think he'd be able to pay his people. If this is an indicator of his financial abilities, then no one should vote for Rudy for ANY office – even dog catcher....
