Top Giuliani staffers to go without pay

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/01/11/art.giulianistaff.ap.jpg caption="Top Giuliani staffers are going without a salary in January, CNN has learned."] MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) - CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida...Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"

The officials did not immediately provide a number of staffers who were subject to the new policy. Nor would campaign officials disclose the amount of money the campaign had in the bank.

UPDATE: The Giuliani campaign reports as of December 31 it has $12.7 million cash on hand, of which over $7 million can be used for the primary contests.

Let's all hope Rudy doesn't win the nomination. He is unelectable in a general election. He will fall apart. We won't even have to wait for November to know, for the next 4 years, our country will be beholden to a novice or a narcissist.

Do you think the Clinton team is afraid of Rudy? They have faced him before, and they were pretty successful. I have to imagine they would love for that to happen again.

Ryan says, "Do you think the Clinton team is afraid of Rudy? They have faced him before, and they were pretty successful. I have to imagine they would love for that to happen again."

Silly Ryan. Rudy was beating Hillary when he dropped out because of prostate cance. Is this the type of misinformation MoveOn.soros told you to post today? I hope they are paying you lots of money to be on message boards all day.

It's really amazing that so many of the Rudy critics give sleezy Bill Clinton a pass on his disgraceful behavior in and out of the White House.
We need Rudy right to guide the ship of state in these troubled times. He's the only one that has the experience and the guts. Go Rudy

Rudy Giuliani is the only candidate that would make the country miss George W. Bush.

Bush has absolutely no respect for the law and the constitution
Giuliani has less than no respect for it.

Bradnyc – you made my day with this line: "Rudy Giuliani is the only candidate that would make the country miss George W. Bush."
Laughed out loud – it is so TRUE!

Guys, Rudy can't spend his own money because he is receiving matching federal funds for his campaign. For anyone receiving matching funds, mixing personal and campaign money is highly illegal.

Because of the constant coverage financial situations receive, for a while the Giuliani campaign attempted to keep his overall balance at 9.11 million dollars.

I hope he runs out of money and drops out. I can't stand looking at that flat-headed, smiling weasel.

Besides, who needs "Rudy and Judy" in the White House - sounds like a puppet show.

Of all the individuals running (so far...) he is the only one who seems to have really questionable character. The RNC is aware of this and I can't see any situation whereby he'd be awarded the nomination.

I can't believe there are people out there who support Giuliani. Are you sheep? The guy's morals are less than stellar, not to mention his ethics. Look at his good buddy, Kerik. The guy is a crook, yet Giuliani knew it and hired him. He was also hated in New York when he was mayor, for good reason.

    Hey Rudy.....

Here's an idea for you. Call Ron Paul and BEG to be his VP nominee when he goes third party. He'll laugh at you in all probability, but it might help feed the obvious longing you have to be relevant. It wouldn't make you relevant, but it might give you one last glimmer of what relevance is like.

All of the non-Giullianiites join me for a moment of laughter in memory of Rudy's presidential bid.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA

David-Paul Niner – are you sure that the RNC could act to question rudy's lack of character? After all, the RNC vetted Bush Jr. and had to scramble late in the day to hide.destroy the military and drug use records of baby Bush during the early days of his first campaign...

Sorry Rudy, the shelf life on your 9/11 song and dance has been long expired.

The intelligent and the informed won't let your presence in NYC during 9/11 make up for your corruption and ignorance.

If my golden retreiver had been at your desk during the attacks, he would be the "hero". -Only he wouldn't still be cashing in on it.

Back your bags, tough guy. And don't let the door hit you on the @ss on the way out.

Rudy did not lose to Hillary in the NY Senate race. She defeated Rick Lazio. Rudy was forced out for health reasons and some say by information that Hillary had on him. Most likely from the 900 files that she had in the White House illegally. Please get your facts straight before you run your mouth.
