Top Giuliani staffers to go without pay

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/01/11/art.giulianistaff.ap.jpg caption="Top Giuliani staffers are going without a salary in January, CNN has learned."] MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) - CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said "things are starting to get tight" and that "it was more telling than asking" the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

Another source disagreed, saying it was a "voluntary" move by senior staff members "so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida...Our campaign is not living hand to mouth right now…"

The officials did not immediately provide a number of staffers who were subject to the new policy. Nor would campaign officials disclose the amount of money the campaign had in the bank.

UPDATE: The Giuliani campaign reports as of December 31 it has $12.7 million cash on hand, of which over $7 million can be used for the primary contests.

Finally people are waking up to the fact that most people in New York City already knows-that Guiliani is a bad candidate for office. Guiliani was not very well liked for the 7.5 years of the 8 years he was office, up until 9/11. The time between 9/11 and when he left office was just over 3 months, a very small fraction of the 96 months he was in office. He got re-elected because the democratic challenger was a terrible candidate, not because Guiliani was a good candidate. He exploits 9/11 at every moment for his own political gain which is despicable and shows how terrible a person he is that he would use the death of almost 3.000 people in order to further his career. I hope his campaign goes down the drain and that he goes back to private practice where we won't hear him exploiting 9/11 any more

Why keep calling Rudy a "womanizer" his marriage was well over….his ex-wife couldn't find time when he was very sick & if you saw his swearing in to be Mayor of NYC she let her kid get away w/bad manners while Rudy was taking theoath…made no attempt to stop the boy I never saw any parent let a kid get away w/such antics!. Many of the guys running now have had girlfriends & will never marry them. His personal life should never be an issue because many of these same people who are trying to make an issue of it have private lives that would make you blush. Anyway, who is more qualified. A Senator does the least work! Let's face it…a Mayor or Govenor has a much harder job…that's why Senator's don't have to (& most don't if you checked the record)even show up half the time! Mayor's & Govenor's have to be on the front lines every day & work the hardest. Rudy has a great record in everything he did & that was before 911! Why shouldn't he bring 911 up! Which one of the Republican's/Democrat's would too if they could. The government # 1 priority before the economy, health care, & anything else is to PROTECT it's citizens!!! Afterthat, they can work on other important issues.People don't understand or forget that we were INVADED! We have let our guard down & it will happen again……I am a Democrat waiting for a TRUE Democrat to vote for! Why couldn't LIEBERMAN be in the running?

Wow Rosemary, where I come from it takes 2 parents to blame for ill mannered children. Telling your wife that you are divorcing her on television is shameful. As far as Alf's dad (Joe Lieberman) I beg to differ. This man is not a republican or democrat. He is for sale to the highest bidder. He couldn't get the votes from the democrats in his last election so he went independent. This opened the door for Republicans to campaign and finance his election. He has sided with Bush all along. No real democrat would side with Bush. Now he is in bed with McCain aka Bush part III. We weren't invaded dear. That would be a military action from another country. We were attacked by terrorists or as we like to call them Bush's Saudi buddies. None of them from Afghanistan and none of them from Iraq. No more drag shows and no more mobsters in 2008. FauxNoise may have picked Rudy the drag queen for president but not the American people. This why I know you are not and never have been a democrat. Please blog back and tell me you are a Iraqi vet next. BTW the secret lives thing... are you the "some people say" from FauxNoise? Senators do less work? It seem Rudy the drag queen had plenty of extra time to commit adultery, you remember the same thing folks on the right wanted Clinton impeached for. You cannot and will not have it both ways!

Shrillery is no New Yorker! She's a carpet bagger that is using NY to move to the whitehouse. Rudy is not perfect, but he is the only chance to beat the wicked witch, so Go Rudy!

If there is anyone more dislikeable than George "Undisputed Worst President in History" Bush, it is Rudy. At least if he's nominated, he'll bring out the Dems in droves and keep the conservative crazies at home.

How many of you Rudy-boosters lived in NYC when he was Mayor? If you did, you'd know about Mr. Morality's marriage to his second cousin, later annulled because he claimed he didn't know she was a relative; you'd know about the 20+ civil liberties lawsuits taxpayers had to pay to defend his adminstration against – and lost nearly every one of them. You'd know that Big Daddy Who'll Protect Us built his emergency command center (natives called it his "'Bunker") at the WTC after it had already been attacked and after he had been warned not to do so. That oft-shown clip of him wandering around on 9/11 with a face mask? He had nowhere to go with his Bunker in the dust. 9/11 is all he has and he doesn't even really have that. Give me a break.

McCain – is about out of cash.
    Huckabee – never had any.
Romney – is spending his own money.
Guiliani – is getting tight too.
Ron Paul – raised almost $20 million in the 4th quarter and broke records in the process.

The key to winning is to motivate your base and attract the independent vote.

Ron Paul's honest and proven support of the Constitution motivates the conservative base, his pro-Peace stance and defense of Civil Liberties attract independents.

Ron Paul is the only Republican that can win the general election.

My guess is that Rudy says to them: "Stick with me; I'll make it up to you when I'm president". And if he ever is I am sure he will.

"I might add that this was also right after the Clintons moved to New York, when voters were less likely to support her because they feared that she wasn't a New Yorker."

-She's not a New Yorker. hahahahaha

Ask yourself WHY is Mr. 911-911-911-911-911-911 so hot for florida? He is pulling up the back of the pack so why does he think he will take Florida? Could it be the fix is in?

His claims of Fixing NY are BS. As a frequent Business Traveler to NY I STILL have to get one of my White Employees to help me get a Cab even when dressed in business attire in front of the Best hotels in Mahatten.

Seriously though. The ONLY question I have for ole Rudy is since he has made an entire career off of 911 (like Bush) I would like to ask him this.

Can you name ONE Mayor of ANY city in the U.S. that you think would have Hidden under their desk crying on 911 if it had happenned in their Cities? If no,t then why do you think doing your job ONE day of the year make you able to run this country??

We don't need a rudy puppet to replace the george puppet thank you.

We The People: How do you suggest we deal with Social Security and Medicare issues?

Rudy: Terrorist? Terrorists, terrorists, terrorists, terrorists, terrorists, and terrorists.

We The People: You didn't answer the question sir.

    Rudy: Terrorism?

We The People: That also is not an answer.

    Rudy: 9/11?

    We The People: Keep trying.

Let's say you are mayor of a large city.

You are in charge of finances, crime,
schools, etc. One of the things you
are also in charge of is security for
    your particular city.

If 3000 people get murdered in your
city, on your watch, is there credit or blame
    to be taken?

How this idiot twisted this into some form
of super-human strength is beyond me.

Give up, Rudy. Go play golf with Bush,
Cheney and the other soon to be retirees.

    9/11, 9/11, 9/11

I'm surprised he doesn't do what the Republicans who have been running the government lately have made a daily occurrence - borrow the money he needs from taxpayers and let his grandchildren pay it back.

That doesn't give good indications about how he would run the government.

Rudy is a joke. He is probably the least qualified candidate running for president. So he was the mayor of NYC...big deal. The news that has come to light regarding his time in office is appalling. That is the last thing this country need right now is another lying fraud!

just like a republican to expect workers/laborers/staffers of any type to work their ass off and not get paid while he sits around and collects mucho cash. i find this absoultely ridiculous but those who are working for him are the ones who are dumb enough to actually put up with such shenanigans.....GROW A BACKBONE!

JDEL; Giuliani never ran for Senate in NY against Clinton. He withdrew from the race in May prior to even the primary.

Most said that he just was not interested in being a Senator (1 of 100).
