[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/01/12/art.bush.ap.jpg caption=" A new CNN poll shows President Bush's approval rating stands at 32 percent."] WASHINGTON (CNN) - Americans' opinion on the Iraq war and of President Bush has remained stable - and fairly negative - over the past few weeks, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Saturday evening suggests.
Only 33 percent of Americans favor the war in Iraq, according to a just released poll. In a similar poll taken in December, that number stood at 31 percent.
The poll also suggests only 32 percent of Americans approve of how Bush is handling his job as president. That number is the same as it was last month.
The poll, conducted on January 9-10, interviewed 1,033 Americans and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
It's a shame, the public is against the war because they are brain washed by the same media that helped the Dems take Congress, who has a lower approval than King George.
Bush doesn't care about his approval ratings on the Iraq war, he's looking for support to go to war with Iran.
I would just like to point out a few things:
1. Congress HISTORICALLY has lower approval ratings than the president because of the inherent gridlock from being a bipartisan legislative body.
2. To Woody Hamilton: The enemy has no regard for human life? What about the untold number of Iraqis who have perished in the past five years? Human life is human life, the cost is the same no matter what nationality a person is.
3. To Rafael in Richmond: "upserd" is spelt absurd.

Well, Sam,
If MICK Huckabee were running, I might consider it. Since it is MIKE Huckabee, however, I just can't vote for someone who thinks war in Iraq is OK. It is not, was not, and never will be seen as OK. We invaded a sovereign nation, have killed 150,000 innocent people, are responsible for the millions more who have left their homes, have allowed AlQuaida to truly have a home, and have distanced ourselves from the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, back at home, we have lost our privacy, given up the right to an attorney if Bush decides on his own that we are some kind of threat, can be imprisoned on that notion without contact, without a hearing, and we can be tortured by other Americans without redress. That is not America!
And you have such a compassionate world view, too, of all the other "worthless" countries. Were it not by the grace of God (or some other quirk of fate) you might live in one of those worthless places, and would you not then look to the great USA to help your homeland? We are getting to the point where we cannot even help ourselves as the dollar falls, a recession begins, and Bush is spending $3000/SECOND in Iraq.
It is patriotic and a duty to question authority! Only in a fascist state are people punished for questioning their government. Is that what you really want-blind obedience to a dictator?
So maybe there are other things to worry about than your misspellings and rants about gays and illegal aliens.
Cnn monitor I am still waiting for my comment to sam and my question to you to be moderated and posted I see you posted a comment a 3:07 Pm. mine was left in your hands at 7:51 and 10:56 AM you have no right to say my comments were offensive after you posted sam from texas
Phil memphis TN your " list " is 80% manufactured Talking points riddled with here-say and inuendo , the other 20% I would love to see debated by two rational thinking representitives of both parties sworn to an oath of fair play
Gregg history repeats it self over and over . we can learn from the mistakes of letting politics run a war like viet nam,,,or learn from what happens when you dont commit to help your allies and only cherry pick your efforts to stop war like we did before the pearl harbor attack in the hope that the enemy would not bother us. these historical events of war are real and sound strikingly familiar to what is going on now,,,, the same can be said for economic events and situations that go hand in hand with costly wars. Every spotted piece of information that was presented to the president and his advisors and the commissioners (some of who were democrats) seemed to indicate that there were WMD's in the days before the decision to hit Iraq . It was not untill we got there that we found the empty wharehouses and bunkers. as I agree with your comment on how could we think these people would come running to us with open arms welcomming us into there lives was about the most opposit thinking than what actually happened ,, it was a mistake due to not having feet on the ground in the way of secret opperatives long before we got there,, you know the old way of doing things a practice that has been proven to save lives time and time again and certainly would of helped if not for being cut from the cia budgets over the last 20 something years considered un neccessary after the collapse of the soviet Union
Bush's numbers will never go lower. The 32% are the hard-core Bushies who would forgive him killing a baby on the Capital steps.
Eventually the damage that man has done will be repaired, but how long it will take is another matter.
With only about a year to go in his term, it seems that we are coming out of a long dark tunnel and can a glimmer of light at the end.
Go Kucinich!
you know, 33% sounds low...but when you think about it – if you get 10 random people in a room, at least 3 of them think that schmuck is still doing a bang-up job. Oh yeah – all you people who keep bringing up congress' low approval rating, I'm a Democrat and I disapprove of the job they are doing. We elected them into power to end the war and restore the Constitution and Bill of Rights that Bush has trampled all over – instead they keep laying down and let Bush get his way. So which is it? Does Bush deserve the low ratings for his job performance, or congress for continuing to let Bush run rampant? You can't have it both ways neo-cons.

Mark in PA – which of Phil's comments is false? Sounds like he hit the nail on the head.
Sam in Texas –
Hahahahaahh!! That was the best parody of a Republican I ever read!!!!
Wait...that was a joke, right? If it wasn't, it's still pretty funny – just in a more tragic way.
"Phil memphis TN your " list " is 80% manufactured Talking points riddled with here-say and inuendo"
------------------------------–
80% of 11 would indicate that approximately only 2 are not manufactured. Unquestionably, some are debateable, which does NOT necessarily make them "manufactured".
-Squandered a budget surplus, turning it into a record budget deficit. FACT: Bush inherited the largest budget surplus in history, fought Democrats to use less of it to reduce debt, and has increased national debt by 50%.
-Moved our economy from prosperity into a recession (the major financial publications just officially announced it, look it up) FACT: the housing market is awful, the U.S. dollar keeps dropping compared to others, gasoline and heating oil costs have doubled under Bush, and many economists say we are in the start of a recession.
-While Clinton debated the word "is" in reference to a sex act, Bush administration debates whether waterboarding is torture. Which is more dangerous? FACT: waterboarding.
-failed to help thousands and thousands of Americans after Katrina FACT: with one phone call Bush could have sent any of our military equipment to aid the people. He chose to ignor them.
-went from "We will get bin Laden dead or alive" to "bin Laden? I really don't spend much time thinking about him". FACT that is well-documented
-fired federal prosecutors who refused to base their prosecutions on Republican politics (a.k.a. prosecute dems and block prosecution of GOP) Apparent fact.
-Has had to have most his top level positions (e.g. gonzo) resign i shame FACT: under fire, these people have also left: Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Libby, Miers, and "Helluva Job Brownie". George Tenet, blamed for the Iraq invasion, remained and Bush gave him the highest award any private citizen can receive.
Phil's list was far from "80% manufactured".

Tom, the last poll I saw had approval of the Democrat party at 56% so I'd say your Republicans bring the average down quite a bit. Maybe if they tried to govern instead of obstruct they could bring their numbers up.
Yeah, Mark,
I agree with every one of Phil's list, and I bet we can find hard data on each of them. You need to read "The End of America" and see how Bush is turning the USA into a fascist state-you MIGHT see the light!
Sue ,Ive heard you plug the book before ,,you need to read ghost wars and decide for yourself what you believe
Mike birmingham AL,, I said 80% was talking points filled with inuendo and here say ,,,, dont put words in my mouth ,,,,and to sue's hard data,,, if you can do that you will be famous because YOU will have impeached BUSH
Sue ,,, and when your hard data personally impeaches Bush I will publically conceed that I was wrong on this and you were right,,, that I should have read " the end of America " and change my political affiliation to your liking
anonymous,,, democrats think congress is doing a horrible job republicans believe congress secretly believe in the president and thats why they keep bending for him,,, he,he,he, ,,, theres a new conspiracy story for you to spread anonymous,,,,shhhhh and dont tell any one your name
John G,
You imply that Bush looks bad because the "democrat" controlled congess won't work with him. He has had a democratic-controlled congress for exactly 1 year and 10 days. What about the 4 years he had with a republican congress? He was not very popular then either.
I have read quite a few posts defending Bush because we are "AT WAR".
We are not at war, our troops do not receive war time pay or benefits, they receive
"combat pay". The "war" was officially declared over by Bush under a sign reading
"Mission Accomplished". I would also like to point out that Bush recently vetoed the 70 Billion that he asked for, so our troops are now without the benefits and bonuses they were promised when they enlisted.
For you people who think we would tarnish our image if we left Iraq before we win.
What exactly is it you think we are winning? What is the goal? All the surge accomplished was to bring levels of violence back down to where they were a year earlier. If you think this is success and this is "winning" no wonder you think Bush is a good president. I hate to think what you consider bad.
These are the same 32% defending a trillion dollar war against the WRONG enemy and probably the same 32% against health care for children.
Bush and Cheney are habitual liars hiding behind the veil of "executive privilege." Is this a similar privilege they had hiding away from military action in Vietnam?
True cowards and truly disgraceful!
DR: " I don't know about the rest of you, but being labled a quitter isn't very flattering or good for the image — agreed?"
Not really, unless you find it more flattering for America to be labeled as a Harassing, War Mongering, Callous, Deceptive, egotistical, self-serving, self-motivated Nation. To each his own I guess.
mark wilkes barre pa
Mike birmingham AL,, I said 80% was talking points filled with inuendo and here say ,,,, dont put words in my mouth ,,,,
So you're not debating the accuracy of the statements? (by the way mark, the words are spelled "innuendo" and "hearsay")
Yes mike I am debating the Accuracy ,, and pardon my lack of typing skills,, when an opponent in debate sinks to grammar mistakes it leads one to believe there a little short on substance,,, if you would like to debate that statement line by line I would be happy to show you where I see" innuendo" and "hearsay" ( is that better mike),,,,,,,,,,,,,, WORSTPREZEVER,,, I am not defending Bush or war with Iraq. I am defend OUR countries right to respond to terrorist attacks,,,and any other countries right to live dream and persue there right to exist without the fear of terrorist attacks,, (hope I spelled all that right, mike will be all over me ) from outside there borders or inside there borders. As I wrote in my original comment. To use in-accurate data or political talking points to argue ones point or throw out hate based comments every time a story or picture of our president is posted is not helpful. WE have BIG problems ahead of us in the years to come,, 20 some years of the way politics have gone through the CLINTON/BUSH years is enough for me. I am fully ready to work with ,debate, and come up with mutually satisfactory answers to our nations problems with any and all parties. Thats why I am here, a republican,, commenting on a left leaning site. Take the time to go through some older blogs and look for my comments and you will see I try very hard to not comment in hate. In my oppinion ,, the most brilliant millatary stratedgy would be how to avoid war,,,,, But that being said any terrorist's that even think of touching our homeland need to know we will "NOT" be stopped by borders ,politics, or fear in finding them and killing every last one of them if thats what it takes to end terror in our country, It may sound selfish to you,, But I feel it is a necessary tool or fact that should be established and maintained as we go into the future and find ways to co exist with the middle east or other countries or areas of the world we currently have problems with. super powers will rise and fall and if we are not careful we will fall and all we are used to in this country,, then we will all be sorry
