Anti-Obama push-polling alleged in South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) - Supporters of Barack Obama in South Carolina said Monday that in the past day, black voters across the state have received biased polling phone calls, sometimes known as “push polls,” which they say are favorable to Hillary Clinton and distort Obama’s record.

Columbia city councilwoman Tamika Isaac Devine, an Obama supporter, said she received such a phone call Sunday night.

“[The caller] asked for the female in the household,” she told CNN, “then they asked my race.” Devine said the caller then launched into a series of positive statements about Clinton and negative statements about Obama, asking how each one affected her vote.

That included a direct comparison of Obama to President Bush. “They said that Barack Obama doesn’t want to be an operational president,” Devine recounted, “and they said he doesn’t want to manage things well, like George W. Bush.”

She said the calls also played on perceived African-American dislike of former President Ronald Reagan and Obama’s recent remarks about Reagan. “They asked, ‘Would you be more willing to vote for a candidate that thinks Ronald Reagan was a more transforming president than Bill Clinton?”

This comes after Obama told a newspaper that, “Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not.”

On Saturday, the campaign sent reporters what it said was a recording of a Nevada robo-call received by a supporter, in which the caller repeatedly emphasized Obama’s middle name, Hussein, and said the senator lied when he said he did not take money from special interest groups and lobbyists.

State Rep. Todd Rutherford, an Obama supporter, said Monday the South Carolina campaign was receiving reports of similar calls.

This really does not suprise me. The Clintons throw a rock and then hide their hands. I really feel for Obama because he is not running against Hillary, he is running against the Hillary machine, starring Bill Clinton. I already know what will happen-posters will claim that Obama is a crybaby and that this is just the media bashing Clinton. Bashing her like what-that mass right-winged conspiracy did?

When will people recognize that Billary Clinton is running a campaign that would make Karl Rove proud ??? It makes me sick. I'm truly embarrassed how supportive I was of Bill as president.... and Hillary when she first announced she was running for POTUS.

Bill Clinton, within the last 24 hours has been called out by Jim Clyburn (publicly), Rahm Emanuel and TED KENNEDY to back off with his DISHONEST, baseless attacks on Obama. The discussion between Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy was "heated". When politicians tell other politicians…especially PUBLICLY….that they've crossed the line and to "chill"…it must be perceived as VERY BAD behavior. Bill Clinton is the one disgraced.

This is the kind of thing republicans do. While I am not against Hillary, I am for Obama. He is Christian. Anyone with a brain in their head would know that Obama was not praising Reagan, but stating a fact.

Nice... leave it to the Clinton's to defame, deface, and debunk their primary contender. Funny you don't hear any of these calls coming from the Obama side. What happened to integrity? Did that disappear with Bush – Clinton – Bush legacy?

Sounds like a page right out of the Karl Rove handbook for destroying your political opposition.

CNN is really doing a good job at making their case for Obama. The reporting has indeed been one-sided in favor of Obama!

It just goes to show that while the Obama campaign takes the high road the Clinton campaign continues to engage in divisive politics.

I can't believe the Clinton camp does not realize that this only divides the party and serves no one but the GOP.

We need to stop the infighting and focus on getting the best Democratic nominee regardless of race, gender, or perceived birth right so we can take back the White House and take back our country.

    Go Obama '08

Say it ain't so. The Clinton's are honest and have integrity in everything they do.

Except when it comes to politics, and everything else.

I have always voted for the Democratic Party but if Hillary Clinton is the Nominee I will vote independent in the General election. I have always liked Bill Clinton but I am disgusted at the irty politics that they are using in the primaries. I hope independents and Democrats that hate dirty tactics will vote for the other candidates. Let us hear the Democrats against Hillary and dirty politics. No more Clintons or Bush in the White House. Are we Americans so Dumb that or we have only two families that we can choose or President from within the last few years. Let us make a CHANGE FROM BUSH AND CLINTON, that is the real change americans deserve.

I am not surprised, the BILLARY campaing will do whatever it takes to get to power. I am just so discusted and disgusted with the way the Clintons feel so entitle to the presidency of this country and how they will resort to whatever is needed to get there. So far they have attacked not only all democrats, but also Senator Obama's cultural heritage, religion, work in congress, work in the community, are creating division between AA voters, and among the party.
I for one, as a woman, an immigrant, a mother, a voter, an educated person, and independent, will never vote for Hillary. The Republicans will get my vote if Hillary is the Dems nominee. I know I am not alone in this ..............

It is time to see how this will look,

CLINTON, BUSH, BUSH, CLINTON (Hillary) CLINTON, (Chelsea)

I am discusted about Clintons' political as usual_

I just hope that people see throught the game and see t heir true colors, this is not about politics, race, gender, economics and other issues only, it is about making changes for our children, their children and the future of a better America and a better world.

The Clintons made not changes in 35 why would they do it now?
by the way I want to know who is running : BILL OR HILL? or both?

I'm not surprised by this. Im disappointed but not surprised. The Clinton's ambition and thirst for power surpass any desire for decency. Cheating, lying..it doesnt matter. So long as the end result is Clinton's back in the White House. Power is like a drug when it comes to the Clintons.

The good news is true power resides in the hands of the voters. My hope and prayer is that they are smart and discerning. Obama is truly what is right for America at this defining moment in time. The Clintons just want..well..more power. They care little about us.

I sincerely hope what happened in Nevada does not happen in South Carolina. There is a conspiracy to denigrate and emasculate Barack Obama's candidacy for President. Our campaign office called caucus attendees to inform them of their caucus sites for January 19th. I spent numerous weeks calling individuals and canvassing our area to inform people about the date and the place of the caucus.

Nevertheless, on the day of the caucus, there were no Precinct signs supporting our canvassing or volunteer calls. When I arrived at my Precinct, the Republican caucus goers were still on the site. They were Republican placards and signs for Hillary Clinton. There were no Obama signs or placards. I received a text message that no signs should be posted outside the caucus site.

It took several minutes for the Obama Precinct Captains to find their site. I know this, because I called several Precincts I knew and received similar comments from them. As a result, we were not able to follow the agenda. People were very distraught and disappointed. Some walked out and some went over to the Hillary camp. Others did not give up until they were escorted to the right precinct.

Former President Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea went to the strip and gave the culinary workers posters and placards of Hillary. He used intimidation to gain their confidence and further stated, "You do not have to support Obama, because your Union reps are supporting him." The Hispanic attendees listened to him and changed their support.

My final point: The Democratic Party in Nevada was very hostile to Obama supporters and openingly displayed their venomous attitudes when we picked up our scarce supplies. There was a shortage of voter registration forms and the Preferential Ballot cards. It was maddening. The votes were tallied and the winning decision was made, before the caucus had terminated in most precincts. People were locked out, before 12 noon and some doors were never opened. I am warning you to not believe the hype and negative info that is being bombared in your state. I know Obama won Nevada. He influenced the people to believe again. The town hall meetings were never distorted with the evil "race" card that the media wants you to believe. I saw grown men and women crying. "Truth crushed to earth shall rise again," [Malcolm X] used to preach. I am so outraged with the misconceptions, lies and false images the Clinton machinery is using to tear down the faith we have for change. The dream is alive and will not die!

Might I recommend that someone investigate Hillaryis44.com for insight into what is going on here. This site has people posting scripts that say exactly what has happened here. Just saying...it's a little bit interesting and a little too coincidental.

Folks if you haven't figured it out yet the status quo (Clinton's) and their notorious crooked campaign machine will do ANYTHING to get the nomination. You better take a deep look at what they are doing to the Democratic party. The Elephants are licking there chops if the Hill and Bill show get the nod.

Wake up America. I don't care if your white, black, asian, latino or gender oriented, this is dirty politics at a time when the United States needs to get it together. What are we leaving for our kids, grandkids and on and on.

    This is absolute BS!!!!!!

And just how independent would be the judgement of Pres. H.Clinton with Pres.

  24. Reagan-Thatcher regimes

Sen Obama, who happens to be a brilliant academic, is exactly right in his assessment that Reagan ‘changed the trajectory of America’ in a way that others did not. During the course of my graduate study, we did in-depth studies of the dramatic results of the Reagan-Thatcher regimes. Sen Obama was simply highlighting the fact that it was a considerably divergent and novel path.

It is rather unfortunate that Bill would manipulate the nature of what was said to utilize it as a divisive tool.

The fact that Sen Obama is able to offer fair analyses of aspects of our political history speaks volume.

If she wins the nomination I'm voting for Bloomberg.
