Anti-Obama push-polling alleged in South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) - Supporters of Barack Obama in South Carolina said Monday that in the past day, black voters across the state have received biased polling phone calls, sometimes known as “push polls,” which they say are favorable to Hillary Clinton and distort Obama’s record.

Columbia city councilwoman Tamika Isaac Devine, an Obama supporter, said she received such a phone call Sunday night.

“[The caller] asked for the female in the household,” she told CNN, “then they asked my race.” Devine said the caller then launched into a series of positive statements about Clinton and negative statements about Obama, asking how each one affected her vote.

That included a direct comparison of Obama to President Bush. “They said that Barack Obama doesn’t want to be an operational president,” Devine recounted, “and they said he doesn’t want to manage things well, like George W. Bush.”

She said the calls also played on perceived African-American dislike of former President Ronald Reagan and Obama’s recent remarks about Reagan. “They asked, ‘Would you be more willing to vote for a candidate that thinks Ronald Reagan was a more transforming president than Bill Clinton?”

This comes after Obama told a newspaper that, “Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not.”

On Saturday, the campaign sent reporters what it said was a recording of a Nevada robo-call received by a supporter, in which the caller repeatedly emphasized Obama’s middle name, Hussein, and said the senator lied when he said he did not take money from special interest groups and lobbyists.

State Rep. Todd Rutherford, an Obama supporter, said Monday the South Carolina campaign was receiving reports of similar calls.

Sen Obama, who happens to be a brilliant academic, is exactly right in his assessment that Reagan ‘changed the trajectory of America’ in a way that others did not. During the course of my graduate study, we did in-depth studies of the dramatic results of the Reagan-Thatcher regimes. Sen Obama was simply highlighting the fact that it was a considerably divergent and novel path.

It is rather unfortunate that Bill would manipulate the nature of what was said to utilize it as a divisive tool.

The fact that Sen Obama is able to offer fair analyses of aspects of our political history speaks volume.

It seems the Obama camp has something new every single day to complain about especially about Hillary's campaign! Listen this is politics not a high school election so get over it and grow up Obama camp. If people want Obama as President he will be voted in nothing can stop their vote! I for one can't stand all the Obama this, Obama that give someone else a chance, I'm sick of hearing about him and his immature (or his camp) complaints. The media is covering Obama WAY too much but then again media and fair as never gone hand and hand! And no I'm proudly NOT voting for Obama! Good luck America!!!!

I'm so surprised that so many of you people that post here are so stupid...look if you dont like hillary dont vote for her its just that simple...how can you say shes dishonest? state the facts if you know any....I for one remember when Bill was president.. we in AMERICA was doing pretty darn good...we could travel from state to state without worry about finding a job...We could go to other countries and people would admire us because we was from AMERICA...Now other countries hate us because of how this country is run....You wanted change and voted in BUSH which in turn distroyed America. and now you have forgotten the good old days when bill was president huh?....It has come to my believe that 90% of you are Republicans trying to bring down the only man that i can remember in my lifetime(i'm 62) that really cared about us and AMERICA...Now youre trying your best to distroy the clintons...Its such a shame what short memories people have...yes Bill had an affair but he looked out for us and our country....he did nothing compared to George and Dick leading OUR country astray but so few of you will even admit that we are in a complete mess and it will take a STRON leader again with experence to get us on our feet again...Obama will be a good leader someday but its not the time to hand our country over to a on the job trainee....people this is the most important election i can remember so its time you thought long and hard before you vote for someone......My best advice is vote for Hillary coz with Bill as an advisor our country will stand proud and tall again.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the questions Hillary asked last night about Obama's record, obviously the media does'nt seemed concerned, seems like there should be someone who has got the !!!!! to ask these questions. If Hillary would have just stood there and not given a response-the news reporters would have said she not standing her ground, but then when she does they have not so positive comments. If Hillary's anything like some of the women I know she not about to let these men or any man for that matter walk all over her, so what her husband Bill is campaigning for her, would you expect him to do anything else. It seems to me people in this country are forgetting what a great president Bill Clinton was, so is his wife who was right there with him and so she will be are next great president, I have no doubt in my mind. It just seems to me that Obama has always got a reason why he did this or that, why can't the same thing apply to Hillary, we all know that Bush lied to everyone about Saddam, that's why she voted the way she did...Obama would have done the same. YOU IN THE NEWS MEDIA NEED TO START ASKING OBAMA TOUGHER QUESTIONS INSTEAD OF MAKING HIM OUT TO BE SOMETHING THAT HE IS NOT......

It has been well documented that both Barach Obama and Hillary are gifted scholars and articulate individuals, so no need to debate their educational backgrounds.

Hillary Clinton's record is longer in years and has shown consistent passion and support for family and children's issues. She had an international best seller as an author ("It Takes A Village") the proceeds of which (over a million dollars) were donated to children's causes across America.

Hillary Clinton has been an effective voice in the Senate and re-elected for a second term with a 67% majority. You may not agree with her but she always makes her position known.

As far as the Clinton years in the White House, America was left in a great position economically and Hillary Clinton gained worldwide respect , traveling around the globe on behalf of women and children's rights. Her advocacy for health benefits for EVERYONE began many years ago, well before it became a popular issue with the other candidates.

All the Democratic candidates are qualified but Hillary Clinton has the most experience and proven record. Elect her and you will see how much a woman can do to bring this country back to prosperity and respect in the world community.

Of the three in last night's debate, Edwards appeared to be the most "presidential" - calm and collected. Since just before Nevada's caucuses, Obama & Clinton have been "playing dirty" with their ad campaigns, and now there's this nasty "push-polling" in S.C. (Sheesh!) ...Edwards stands out as the mature grown up alongside two arguing teenagers.

In last night's debate Edwards was strong when he needed to be, but he never lost his cool like the other two did. Edwards ideas for healthcare, the economy, the war, etc., sounded the clearest, and best thought-out. I just feel that Edwards has the most integrity and insight (vision) of all the candidates.

I also believe that EDWARDS is THE ONE that can best take on McCain across the U.S. (or Romney, if things should go that weird way.)

Barak Obama and his campaign staff are getting desperate after 2 straight defeats to Hillary Clinton. From the beginning of his campaign he's done nothing but attack Hillary Clinton and NOT John Edwards to try and get rid of her because she's been the front runner for a very long time. And primarily on past voting in the Senate. But what do people know about his voting past. Not much. Hillary Clinton exposed some of his voting patterns last night in the debate when she talked about his many undecisive votes in the Illinois legislature. Furthermore, what's wrong with working for Walmart? Would Obama refuse to work for a large company if he were asked? I doubt it! Hillary Clinton has been talking about her efforts to improve health care, the economy and getting our troups out of Irak very soon among other topics that concern all Americans. In December Hillary Clinton was not spending her time attacking Obama or the other candidates. Barak Obama built his campaign on attacks in December. And it has become much worse in January. Now Hillary Clinton has no choice but to respond to Obama's attacks to defend herself as anyone would. It's clear that Barak Obama has, from the beginning, consistently used negative campaigning tactics. He hopes that Americans will see him as a white knight in shining armour but you would have to be naive to believe that!

Carefull jumping to conclusions... the press is having a love affair with Obama right now. And, they know that anything negative about the Clintons is good press. As soon as public sentiment starts going contrary to this, they'll flip all the stories around. I wish they would just report what is right and fair and stop going after what "sticks to the wall". Then again, they are a business and have to make $$.

I am scared to death that this division in our party is going to bring about another disaster of having a Republican president. Support your candidate, shutup with the negativity...Billary this, Obama is a muslim that....and let's work together to take the White House. I think we can all agree that no matter who wins the nomination we need to swing our support because we are DEMOCRATS. Unless you want to see trailers in the White House lawn to house all of Mitt Romney's kids......think about it.

SURE OBAMA IS GOOD AT GIVING A SPEECH, BUT WHEN ASKED ABOUT THINGS THAT HE HAS SAID OR DONE HE SAYS THINGS WERE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT....WHY DOES"NT THAT APPLY TO ANYTHING THAT HILLARY OR BILL CLINTON HAS TO SAY....WHAT GOES FOR ONE MUST APPLY TO ALL....WHAT MAKES HIM THINK THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO HIM.....I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHY...LIKE I SAID BEFORE IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN....OBAMA NEEDS TO GET SOME TOUGH SKIN BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL RUN HIM THROUGH THE SHREDDER.....SO WHAT"S WRONG WITH ASKING SOME TOUGH QUESTIONS....HILLARY HAS THE BATTLE SCARS TO PROVE IT.....WHAT THE DEMOCRATS NEED TO DO IS GET AT LEAST 60% MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE...BECAUSE IF WE DON"T NOTHING WILL GET PASSED JUST LIKE NOTHING CAN GET PASSED NOW....AND WHO DOES EVERYONE BLAME....THE DEMOCRATS.....YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE THE REPUBLICANS WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO STOP THE DEMOCRATS DON"T YOU PEOPLE SEE THIS....OBAMA IS NO MIRACLE WORKER....ALL THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CARES ABOUT IS THE TOP 5-10% OF THE WEALTHIEST PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY. I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME MONEY BACK FROM OUR GOVERNMENT....BUT HONESTLY DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT BUSH CARES ABOUT LOWER INCOME PEOPLE....I THINK NOT....AT LEAST HILLARY IS GOING TO STAND UP FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS FOR EQUAL PAY, HEALTH INS., DAY CARE, ECONOMY....BOY HOW SOON WE FORGET...IT HAS'NT BEEN THAT LONG AGO WE EVEN HAD THE RIGHT TO VOTE....AND WHAT ABOUT THE 60'S...DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THAT TIME!!!!!

Bottom line – Obama has no experience; Race does not play an issue here. Real intelligent people will want a candidate with the most experience and that's Hillary – like it or not. I don't care if there are 10 generations of Clinton's in the White House if they did the country good – and Bill did good and with his first lady by his side I might add. Again, if the candidate did good for the people, who gives a rats behind how many times they end up in the White House; that only means that we keep voting them in because we believe in them. Go Hillary!!!

Greetings to everyone! I'm a Hispanic independent voter. As independent I try hard to make the right decision when time to vote. In my opinion, the best two candidates for the Democrats is by far Obama and Edwards. These two seem very sincere in change, they just have little differences in their policies. Since Edwards seems to be coming in third nationally, I hope he drops and supports Obama and run for VP. I think both of them will do great things for this country. Its obvious that the Clinton's work as a team so why wasn't health care fixed in the 8 years when Bill was President? Why is Hillary getting founds from the insurance companies? Action speaks louder than words so no matter what she says she voted for war with Iraq and Obama didn't. That leaves me to think, she can easily be manipulated or she goes with the hype. Obama doesn't. My vote is for Obama! I hope to see Obama/Edwards for 08. Then we will see change and with that comes hope.

Hillary is down right dirty! Did you see the seething look on her face after she threw that POINTLESS attack at Barak about the slum lord. If you have something to say, say it but remain poised for goodness sake. Don't have a scary look on your face like Hillary did as if she had just said a "Yo' Mama" joke. LOL!

It's Obama 2008! or 109 members of my family will be voting Independent. Hillary is experienced in what? America, will collapse in 12 years if Hillary wins.

Where was Bill when 400,000 Rwandas where killed, hum nothing to gain let them die. America you have forgotten that.

Hillary was in charge of revamping Health Care when Bill was president ... so much for the experience, she needs another 8 years to try again.

    Puta que pario, idiotas.

Wise is he who learns from mistakes of others, Go Obama!

It's insulting to our intelligence that Hillary thinks we're going to buy her interpretation of the Reagan/Republican remarks. What Barack was trying to say is perfectly clear, and the sheer level of shamelessness to which they've sunk in in this race staggers me. I used to love Bill, but now I have no respect for him left. And as a woman, the spectacle of her rising through her husband rather than on her own merits depresses me for the future of gender equality in our country.
