Washington governor endorses Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/images/02/08/art.wash.gi.jpg caption=" Christine Gregoire has endorsed Obama."]

(CNN) - Barack Obama has won the backing of Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire, one day before that state is set to hold its Democratic caucuses.

The Washington Democrat, who won the office in 2004 after a hand recount favored her by only 129 votes, said she found it difficult to choose between Obama and Hillary Clinton, but was ultimately drawn to the Illinois senator's charisma and leadership skills.

Gregoire is slated to join Obama at a campaign rally in Seattle later Friday. Clinton is also in the state, campaigning 30 miles south in Tacoma and then later in Spokane.

Washington is set to allocate its 78 delegates through caucuses - a format that has favored Obama to date this elections season.

Washington Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray have endorsed Clinton's White House bid.

Funny (not HA HA funny), how the press leads with Obama news and hides the Hillary news somewhere at the bottom of the page.

The press doesn't want Obama they just don't want Hillary>

Well guess what, half of all democrates do want Hillary and it would be nice if the press could show us and Hillary Clinton the respect we deserve.

    This Half for Hillary!

As long as the superdelegates do not cheat, then the party will be united. If they do then I will vote for McCain! I will not vote for Billary

I have had it with all these traitor "female" governors endorsing Obama over Hillary. Imagine if African-American governors across the country turned their backs on Obama. Where is the sisterhood? For shame.

I'm just waiting for Clinton supporters to make mean-spirited remarks about Governor Gregoire. They'll probably call her a jealous old hag.

I agree that endorsements don't do too much for getting votes, but they're good at playing psycological warfare with your opponent. For example, it's now harder for Mrs Clinton to play the woman card now that so many prominent woman leaders are backing Obama.

Governors are so stupid for endorsing candidate before a primary election. They alienate part of their constientuency. They should hold their endorsement for the general election only.

    You go girl!

Inspiration trumps old-school politics. This shows that Obama transcends race and gender. First time in years we've had this choice!

    Look, endorsements don't matter.

But, it'll be interesting to see how the "referees" such as NOW-NY and others react. This are the self-appointed referees who determine which women are "real" women and which are "sell-outs" based on whether they vote as they're told or whether they act as liberated independent women and vote for the person who they think will bring the best results for our country.

Sweet. Another woman for Obama. I am happy to see that Gov. Christine Gregoire doesn't feel it's necessary to vote based on gender.

Thank you Governor Gregoire! Obama has the support of smart women. Washington, you rock!

CNN – your pledged delegate count in "Dems dred drawn-out campaign" is incorrect. MSNBC's tally this morning was
    Barack Obama 861
    Hillary Clinton 855

This is significant in Washington State. Christine Gregoire is up for election this year and her opponent is the same guy, Dino Rossi, who she faced last time. By contrast, Murray & Cantwell are not up for election this year and they both seriously owe the Clintons for helping them retire campaign debts. If nothing else, Gregoire's endorsement, when her neck really is on the line, demonstrates Obama's strength in Washington State.

For the record, Clinton is supported by Governor O'malley in Maryland along with Congresswoman Barbara Miluski and has many many serious endorsements in those states. Somehow only Obama's endorsements are newsworthy.
