(CNN) - Following a years-long campaign that began before President Bush even took his first oath of office, Southern Methodist University – the alma mater of First Lady Laura Bush - has been chosen as the future home of George W. Bush’s presidential library and policy center.
“I look forward to the day when both the general public and scholars come and explore the important and challenging issues our Nation has faced during my presidency — from economic and homeland security to fighting terrorism and promoting freedom and democracy,” President Bush wrote in a Friday letter to the university’s president, Gerald Turner.
The university had been hammering out the final details of the agreement for more than year. The facility will be located at a site near downtown Dallas.

I can't belive SMU would allow the beast to have anything on their campus! Bush was about as good a "christian" as Castro.
The Bush Library, our nation's ultimate disgrace. I expect one wing with one book on his accomplishment. The sign in ledger opened to the first blank page.
Why not put it next to Papa's library at Texas A&M? That would be a fitting honor to the school that was once voted as university most likely to support GWB.
I bet they will have great books there. Don't forget to bring your box of 64.
Man, is this ever funny! A presidential library for a president who has trouble reading and thinking? His whole administration was based on anti-intellectualism.
This could be the cheapest library ever! I would recommend the following:
- a single-room brick-block building, with one interior wall painted white, located in the backwoods of Mississippi
- 10-12 dilapidated metal chairs
- one rotating floor fan
- one old coin-operated gum-ball machine
- a sign that says "Pee Outside"
- a 1970's movie projector
- an old film-copy of Deliverance
- show the film over and over and over and over again
This should make his library visitors happy, routing for the backwoods men during the show. Afterall, this represents the core of his remaining support.
Is George Bush's presidential library an attempt to lessen his guilt over bombing libraries in Iraq that contained some of the earliest books of civilization, books thousands and thousands of years old which can never be replaced? The history that was destroyed is tragic
As if any of you could do any better....I'm not a Bush fan either but your negative comments are typical of uneducated CNN couch potatoes….ie…the typical Americans knowledge of US and World events is pathetic….
Have any of you visited a Presidential Library and know what’s there….I highly doubt it…
Go back to your hole and wait for the next episode of Jerry Springer to come on…
AND, who is paying for that? Keep spending our money
and make sure Cheney has enough company kickbacks
from Haliburton and what is that other company endorsed
by Cheney. How much does Cheney pocket? He must
be a multimillionaire by now. And, Cheney is the first one
I ever heard that the deficit could be lowered by people not
depending on ENTITLEMENTS. Well, I think the country
would be altogether shot. More forclosures, less money
for stimuli the country, What a contradiction. I hope Republicans
never get elected again for anything. In fact, some good Reps.
should convert to Democratic Party or go Independent to separate
themselves from that crooked party.
Just don't build it on American soil, please.
Bush library–an oxymoron.
Is there room in an old warehouse somewhere?
They should only have to Open once a month due to Lack of Interest!!
I 'm sure that the Bush Presidential Library will be in some undisclosed location.
We'll name it “No president left behind”
Use the people who visit it for medical research.
Wouldn't having a library named after you, imply that you are actually literate?
They should build in in Baghdad, so that the people there can always remember their glorious liberator.
They picke dthe wrong site, i would suggest Kirkut, Iraq.
