Clinton suggests she may release tax returns

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/02/26/art.clinton1.ap.jpg caption=" Clinton indicated she may release her tax returns before the end of the primary season."](CNN) - Hillary Clinton suggested Tuesday she may release her tax returns before the Democratic primary race is over, a seeming reversal over her long-standing position that she would not release the documents unless she is the party's nominee.

"I will do it as others have done it upon becoming the nominee or even earlier," Clinton said at Tuesday's debate.

Pressed if she would do it before the March 4 primaries, Clinton said she didn't have the time to get them together, but said, "I will certainly work toward releasing them, and we will get that done and in the public domain."

Obama released his tax returns late last year, and suggested Clinton do the same. He stepped up his criticism of the New York senator for not doing so earlier this month when it was revealed she loaned her campaign $5 million.

"I think the American people deserve to know where you get your income from," Obama said then.

Who cares? Really this is a ridiculous issue. Yeah the Clintons are rich. Who did not know that? When did it become an issue. Obama's wife is according to reports, making 300,000/year at a job she is on hiatus from. Must be nice. And she is talking about not being able to pay back student loans? Does not sound very fiscally responsible. BTW nice house the Obamas have. How much you pay for that?

Isn't it interesting how people know all Obama and his wife's business??? Would be nice to be able to quote the same numbers about the Clintons. By the way – Obama's house – 1.6 million. Full disclosure baby. How much do you think student loans for 2 ivy league Bachelors degrees and 2 Ivy League law degrees cost?? Quite a bit.

When did we as a people give up the notion of voting in a plan as opposed to voting in a politician? Politicians talk about plans, they try to sell their plan, yet we never truly know the details of the PLAN. Why can’t they all unveil their plans on a predetermined date and time, so we the public could critique the plan. Do they really even have a plan? What qualifies a politician for developing a plan towards health care or economics for that matter? The individuals qualified to formulate plans for the various areas that need attention don’t currently work for that candidate do they? Wouldn’t that make for a great debate? Imagine it…. Potentially, 10 or more plans from 10 or more candidates. The top minds of our nation could look over these plans. Candidates could adopt each others plans and in the end the perfect personality for the perfect plan could be chosen.

we are talking about the possible next Commander in Chief..... Obama has had NO problem with such issues which is why he was not asked the questions... she however is being secretive... REMEMBER.......in light of the fact that one of these people could be the next Commander in Chief, we need to know WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT....which makes it relevant ( Chaunda)

The reporter neglects to note that she hesitated before adding "or earlier" to that statement – and that she only ceded because of the pressure. The majority of her response to that question made it clear that she didn't intend to do it until she became the nominee – and definitely not before next Tuesday's election. Her final remark about not having the time is evidence that she'll purposely never find the time to release it. It's all just political BS.

I think the question rests in the Clinton's investments abroad, especially when Bill so championed free trade.

So yes, a 5 million donation is a pretty hefty donation considering these folks have spent a lifetime in public service, not exactly known for it's high salaries.

This is stupid. She doesn't have to release her tax records to the morons of the US. If you want to see her records so bad, start a website and post yours first or shut up.

I dont care if she EVER releases them. Find a new topic to harp on for petes sake. Do you want everyone to see your tax returns – is it really that important – dont you think it was more critical she can actually get you good health care coverage – you people are so petty.

What is she afraid of? Did anybody not guess she is in the upper 1% of American incomes? Her husband makes hundreds of thousands of dollars for a speaking engagement. She's written books that people read solely to find out what a former first lady had to say. She bought a million dollar house months before the NYS elections so she could qualify for residency. I'd say she makes close to $15Mil last year.

Why did she loan herself the money instead of donating it anyway? If she "loans" the money if she loses the nomination she can pay herself back from her general election donations. I guess she doesn't believe in her campaign as much as she says.

The MSNBC debate was awesome!!!! Hillary nailed Obama. Thats right Obama!! A woman forced you to finally say, "Ok, I reject him". MSNBC debates are really good. They really get in your face on everything. Obama was so frustrated. LOL!!!!

Maybe Obama should release how he got a house at $300,000 below the cost, bought the same day as his next door neighbor the slum landlord who finances his campaign. Oh yeah, and why it took him 20 years to pay off college loans: maybe the interest rate was lower than that of his Mercedes???

Did anyone notice that the MSNBC live web stream absolutely sucked for 2/3's of the debate. It was like trying to listen to a horribly scratched CD.

As far as the reports she's had on hand for a month about what she did as first lady, why doesn't billy wave em around? Why not?

She's not a candidate that represents change: "I will do it as others have done it..."

now or never, to avoid controversy why not now. so much accountability and transparency. hilary said " this election is about the future ...." " my experience gives me the edge". can someone please tell where are we going ? future but experience. stop the politics of convience, and be truthful to the people. disclose now if you have nothing to hide.

LOL she DID NOT SAY BEFORE. She is sooo slippery. She will NEVER do it before, she just wants us to THINK she might so people will back off or feel comfortable and vote for her.

ANYONE who is still dim enough to believe this please stand up. I can't believe anyone will!
