Clinton camps highlights Obama's chairmanship

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/02/26/art.debate2.ap.jpg caption=" Clinton raised Obama's subcommittee chairmanship at Tuesday's debate."] WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign Wednesday pounced on Sen. Barack Obama's acknowledgment that he has yet to hold a substantive hearing since becoming chairman of a Senate subcommittee on Europe.

The admission during Tuesday night's Democratic debate offered a "glimpse of the real Barack Obama," and was emblematic of the Illinois senator's light record of results, the Clinton camp said in an e-mail.

Obama "did not hold a single oversight hearing because he was too busy running for president; the Barack Obama who spends his time talking about change you can believe in instead of change you actually can count on," the e-mail stated.

Clinton herself raised the issue at the debate in Cleveland.

'"He chairs the subcommittee on Europe. It has jurisdiction over NATO. NATO is critical to our mission in Afghanistan," she said. "He's held not one substantive hearing to do oversight, to figure out what we can do to actually have a stronger presence with NATO in Afghanistan."

In response, Obama noted he has only served as the committee's chairman since January of 2007, just when his presidential campaign was beginning - a fact the Clinton campaign's memo also highlighted.

"But by his own admission, he was too busy running for president to conduct a single substantive hearing of the committee he chairs," the memo stated. "So he would rather talk about what he would do rather than do it through the responsibility he had.”

For the record, Obama has held two hearings on ambassadorial nominations, but no oversight hearings.

On the surface, this looks like a good argument, but it is typical grasping at straws politics. Where is the substance? Where is the proof? If you look at the senate website, no subcommittees list their meetings or hearings. Note that Obama said that he had only been chairman since January 2007, not that he had never held a single meeting. But, of course, Clinton's campaign implies that he confessed to having never met with his committee since becoming chairman. And she had the nerve to get so upset about the mailers that, supposedly, misled people about her stance on the issues. Face it Hillary supporters, the kitchen sink isn’t going to be big enough to stop the Obama train, you might as well climb aboard.

I'm a Obama supporter, there's this question that Obama is all talk and no action. This notion is ridiculous because Mr. Obama has out done Mrs. Clinton and the "Clinton machine" in this campaign. So are we to questioning Obama because he didn't have a meeting......If Hillary is trying to push this issue then she is really depressed and it's sad. She can't even run a successful campaign, so what does that say about her if she was president.... ..I like her, but she nor Mcain are not the people that we need in the White House at this time.

Hillary, quit giving John McCain fuel. You are a strong presidential candidate, but you may not win the nomination. Then McCain is going to turn your words on Obama. You say you want a democratic president in the white house? Well, try touting your own accomplishments and stick to the issues...stop the negativity!

Does anyone have comparative figures of Clinton vs. Obama and also broken down by what KIND of meeting or inquiry or oversight or substantive or insubstansive and all the other types of meeting that most of us don't know?

If Hillary gets into office the military is screwed. Part of the problem with the military now is what Bill did to dismantle it in the '90s and lets face it if she gets in office it is as good as saying he is serving a third term except he'll have more time to chase interns. There isn't a single good candidate among any of them but I know a lot of military that will get out of the service if she is elected so in essence a Clinton will once again dismantle the military.

The Obama are busy running a positive campaign, while Hillary is so busy engaging in the politics of smear that she can't "get it together" to release her income tax records so that we know where the 5 million dollar loan comes from–perhaps Bill Clinton's mining deals for Canadian plutocrats working to open new mines in former Soviet sallietes?

Look people, the important point is that Obama is not pushing these kinds of smears, all those Clinton people responding here are.

I used to think that Republicans were the only one who were "HATE-MONGERS"....... but after I read some of the above comments. I see that the Democrats are just as bad!

No wonder the majority of Americans hate politics & refuse to even vote!
With comments like the ones against Sen. Obama, who needs it?

Hillary looked desperate last night, seemed to be either on the attack or defense.

Do you really want a president who whines "why do I always get the first question?"

Or a president who VOTED for the war, and IS responsible for the mess we are in and the lives lost?

How about allowing public access to her taw returns? What is she hiding?

This Independent voter is voting for change, because another Clinton is NOT change.

The Obama people were at work while all the Clinton fanatics trolled the internet for opportunities to repeat their catchphrases. Would someone please point out one notable thing Clinton has done since she started campaigning in earnest? Yeah, I thought so.

Hillary is being hypocritical – again! The truth is since she started campaigning she hasn't performed any significant duties in the senate just like Obama.

At least Obama took some time to file his taxes and make his info public unlike Hillary who is still making excuses. She claims she's so busy campaigning that "she barely even have time to sleep." Yet, she expects someone running for president just like her to have the time to convene a senate hearing.

This is hypocrisy at it's worst and we the voters in Ohio see thru it and will reject her next Tuesday like most other states have done.
