A temporary update to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act expired more than a week ago.

"The law expired, the threat to America didn't expire," the president told reporters.

If the expiration of this law puts America at risk, then why did President Bush vow to veto any version that didn't include immunity for the telephone companies?

Is he saying that immunity for the phone corporations is more important than the safety of the nation?

After all, to use a line that proponents of increased surveillance have used often, "If they aren't doing anything wrong, they don't have anything to worry about."

Now is the time for all you Obama-bots to speak up and call your Senator and let them know how you feel about FISA. Your candidate is all talk and no do, are you? It will require a little effort, you have to look up the number of your Senator, and dial the number, it is not that hard really. You can do it, yes you can.

All your lies and playing on Fear Resident Bush will not change the fact that you have sufficient authority to spy on Americans now IF you can show just cause, this bill should die a short painful death. The press to get RETROACTIVE immunity for major corporations because they might have to pay a fine for breaking the law is simply disgusting and should not be even a discussion! If the telecommunications companies had not posted huge profits (recognize that profits come after ALL expenditures including upgrades maintenance and salaries folks profits are what they stick in their pockets) you might ahve a concern but they have and can afford the costs of breaking the law.

No question, and with all due consideration given to the terrorists, the biggest threat to this country is the current administration and its supporters that put them into office, and the ones that want to continue this idiotic status quo by electing another [R] into office.

Our current Congress is like a troublesome employee who insists on mopping the floor before sweeping.

Of course–you don't have to wait 2-6 years to fire the stupid employee.

Bush should use the FISA Court as provided for in the original law and quit posturing. The man who was to our "uniter, not divided" has utterly failed because of his abusive political strategy. This is all politics, just like the stuff Bush and Rove used to abuse a real American hero and gentleman, Max Cleland. If the telecoms broke the law supporting the Bush administration's rush to use 9-11 as an excuse to trample on our Constitutional rights, then that's the telecom's problem.

Whatever happened to the Constitution? Whatever happened to following the law? Whatever happened to accountability?

    Dems - stand firm.

The Democrat controlled Congress should play it like this:

They should tell Mr. Bush that if really thinks warrant less wiretapping is so necessary, he should come before Congress in a closed session and answer questions on why this is so needed. If Bush refuses to do this then we all know it must not be all that important and once again The American public and Congress need not take our president seriously.

I can't stand the sound of his voice.
Actually it's good that he rears his ugly head every once in awhile…to remind us of why we need to vote for either Hillary or Obama ( my personal choice is Obama ) instead of McBush Lite.

Jan.20th 09 can't come soon enough!!! Finally an end to this almost 8 year national nightmare.

The Bush administration claimed that due to Congress letting FISA expire we missed some intelligence information. Then the question was asked if FISA was expired then how do you know intelligence information was lost. There was no logical answer. This is nothing but the same fear attempts this administration has always used, fear, fear, fear.

Charlotte, both McCain and Obama cast their votes on FISA while Senator Clinton was off campaigning. Before you get snarky, you should verify your facts. Yes you can!
