Clinton aims to clean house

Clinton spoke in Dallas Saturday.

Clinton spoke in Dallas Saturday.

DALLAS, Texas (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton, the first serious female contender for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, told supporters that she would clean house when she arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in January 2009.

“Now, you know, as President Bush is leavin’ and comin’ home, waiting in that Oval Office are gonna be a lot of problems,” Clinton told the crowd. “So, the next president is gonna have to get in there and clean house,” she added.

“Now, I think we need somebody whose got some experience cleaning house to go into the White House,” she said to cheers. “So, I might ask you to grab your brooms and your mops, your vacuum cleaners and come on up and help me out,” Clinton said to an audience that included men but was majority female.

Clinton, who has suffered a string of losses to rival Barack Obama since Super Tuesday nearly a month ago, faces a crucial test of her candidacy in the upcoming March 4 primaries in Texas and three other states. Although Obama has made progress winning over female voters since Super Tuesday, the two Democratic contenders won the votes of women in nearly equal numbers during Wisconsin’s recent Democratic primary.

Just don't forget that the White House furniture doesn't belong to you and steal it like you did in 2000.

(Please post this on behalf of Senator Clintons supporters).

Mrs. Clinton, you are a smart, strong woman, this is why so many men and women fear you.

Most men will not admit it, though the real reason that they back Obama is that they can't/won't support a woman.

If Obama were running against Edwards, Obama would be a set of training wheels, pulling up the rear.

Mrs. Clinton, as quick as the Obama supporters CLAIM that your supporters are "out of touch," at least we are not hanging out in outer space without a clue.

The Obama supporters are simply trying to appear hip and cool, by supporting what they believe to be the "next best thing..."

Mrs. Clinton, the Obama camp can't deny that you have millions of supporters.

Yes indeed you are ready to move back into the White House, to clean house, and you can mop the floor up with Obama.

If Hillary is honest, she would release her tax return. Seems like she is all talk but no substance.

WAKE UP PEOPLE. DON'T VOTE FOR ANOTHER FRAUD LIKE BUSH. Clintons donors will be no different than Bush's donors. If Clinton wins, there will be another 4 years of Bush.

Judging from her campaign, we know Hillary can't manage her campaign let alone the whole country. Obama's campaign is a lot more organized and stable. I for one, am voting for Obama because he have exhibited experience and maturity unlike Clinton who was negative from the beginning.

Lets wake up and not elect another Clinton or Bush (BUSH = CLINTON)

Obama is going to change the country. Hillary will need to serve her donors, similar type of people who donated to Bush.

Great. Our first female presidential candidate and she's using mops, brooms and vacuum analogies. What next? She's going to suggest potlucks for state dinners? It would be nice, for the sake of all women that struggle to shed that housekeeper image, if she'd stick to sounding presidential.

I thought that she already had "cleaned house" in 2000 when she and Bill left the White House.

The only reason she didn't clean her own is because she needed Bill to get her back in the White House. Without him, and the Clinton name, she'd be nowhere. What does it say to women that you need to stay with your cheating husband, who humiliates you in front of the entire world, just to get where you want professionally? It's a sad day in this world when people look up to her as someone they'd want to be, when there are so many, many better role models to pattern you life after.

Clinton is not getting good press because there has been no good news for her since Feb. 5th. I do believe the media is trying...has she changed her voice again; weird accent today!

I don't think Hillary Clinton really cares about the American people that much. It would be more of a milestone if her and Bill got back in the WHITE HOUSE. Wake up AMERICA she keeps saying the same thing in her speaches, and I qoute ' WHEN WE GET TO THE WHITE HOUSE', not when I become President, not when I get to the White HOUSE. It's when BILL,CHEALSE, and I HILLARY move in to the White House. Then Bill and Hillary can have two Presidential RETIREMENT INCOMES, thankyou America. Again Americans really need to EDUCATE themselves!!!!

You haven't even cleaned up your own mess(the gazzillion # of pages while you were first lady and your tax return which you have refused to show) and you want to clean up someones. Hold up... i get it you want to clean up his mess so you can start your own mess, who knows what scandal will arise this time. Deceitful, manipulative human being. What a bad way of crying to the texas people to vote for you.

    March 1, 2008 06:30 pm at 6:30 pm |

That is real funny. Hillary will clean house when she becomes
President of the U.S.A. Will she also get rid of the lobbyist's that
she owes lots of favors to. Hillary probably never cleaned house
in her life, including the real life get down on your knees kind of
cleaning. If she actually "cleans the WHITE HOUSE" can she
kindly return the furniture that she was accused of stealing?
And, when she leaves, have the guards watch that she does
    not steal again.

My first choice November 2008 was Hillary. I changed my vote in February 2008 because, I don't feel Hillary is strong enough to be commander in chief. Her husband will be behind closed doors making decisions for her at 3am in the morning. She had my vote on experience, however Obama have just as much expereince and realism. If Hillary is the democratic candidate against the Republicans guess what, "we loose". They are going to make her cry like a baby.

I'll be right there, along side Hillary, ready to clean house! It's time for America to have a President that will take up the task of cleaning up the mess we are in, and is willing to have America help out in the task. Hillary Clinton, you make us all so proud! Let's go, America, and help Hillary Clinton clean house! Let's show the world that America is the proud country we have always known us to be!

I think there is an air of frustration since she's running against the OBAMATABLE machine- the movement- reminiscent of the proletariat trying to overthrow the Bourgesie back in the early part of the 20th Century (i.e., Marxism, social-fascism)... I wonder if Obama supporters really understand the reality of why they are supporting Barack? if it's hope...? ...change? Hope for what? Change for what? You want someone who is only able to attack the Iraq war when it's convenient??? i.e., when he wasn't in the US SENATE but the state of Illinois senate.... as this is his only evidence of "I never voted for the war" (of course He wasn't in the US SENATE... and if he was he may have missed the vote)? Is this a gender thing? a race thing? YES- YES IT IS... they are the same on the issues cause Hillary has shaped the forum, but they are different- Experience, preparedness, and diplomatic sensitivity- Hillary's got it all whereas Barack will never be prepared when it's just him and the phone... I fear for Israel, the world, and the country with a Barack Hussein Obama in office.. Hussein is his middle name, why is everyone so polarized by it... If he doesn't like it, then change it, otherwise I don't understand the hoopla- so he's not Saddam, he has muslim roots, is that such a big deal? Hmmmmm.... maybe his ability to present himself as a man of a certain character will be questioned... he follows everything hillary does- he had his name on the ballot in Florida- yet Florida's votes don't count- why don't we just disenfranchize one of the swing states with a high number of jewish voters and I for one am very disappointed that my vote doesn't count...

If it's change you want- you get motivated by him... inspired by him... Then change you'll get- Hillary Clinton represents change... A woman, an intellectual, a diplomat, and a fighter for those without a voice... She has more history, consistency, and truly represents a leadership change from the current Bush White house... someone you can be proud of representing us across the country, and the world. With Barack Obama you dont know what your getting... WHAT CHANGE? WHAT HOPE? WHAT DO YOU WANT HIM TO ACHIEVE??? Yes we can? Yes we can what? WHAT CAN WE DO? Can we do WHAT???— Does Barack know- he has people so bought into his concept of change- are things really that bad with the American system? it's worked for 250 years and he wants to change the process... that's dangerous- the founders of the constitution know how this country works... BARACK OBAMA STUDIED CONSTITUTIONAL LAW and was a constitiutional law professor at the university of Chicago- Don't think for one minute that he won't change or know how to attempt to change the constitution to seek his agenda (DO WE KNOW WHAT THIS AGENDA IS?) ... if Barack is in the white house what will he do? Do you know? All I know is that he talks a good talk, and spins his wheels in circles and talks in riddles… and we MUST VOTE FOR HILLARY– YES WE CAN!! GO HILLARY 2008… AND YES AT 3AM I want the most experienced DEMOCRAT ANSWERING THE PHONE!!! President HILLARY CLINTON!!!

This is interesting. Not only can she not accomplish nearly any of the platforms on which she is running, but she is now turning her feminist campaign a metaphor for household chores. She is nobody without her husband, while Barack is a self-made Presidential candidate. In the end, I hope people realize this!

    March 1, 2008 06:32 pm at 6:32 pm |

Did she say 'broom' and 'vacuum' ? I think there will be more needed then just cleaning the windows for the nation !

By the way, I think Laura Bush is a very tidy person – I don't think Laura Bush will take as much federal furniture out of the White House in her moving van like Hillary Clinton did.

And remember Hillary's 'Redecorating Gate' ? She has some issues ...

Cleaning the house is all she is barely qualified to do. She would probably hire illegals to do it anyway. If she did clean, what would she ride?

I have read several comments that think that Hillary has been negative and divisive when it comes to Obama, and I have to wonder if they have really considered how things would be if he is the nominee.

Do they really think that the GOP are going to be as easy on him?

Hillary has been attacked by the GOP machine for YEARS, so we know what they'll throw at her. She's still around and fighting for us. Can Obama handle the onslaught of a Republican hate machine? I seriously doubt it.

I hear that Obama is getting Republicans to vote for him, and people seem to think it is because he is bringing people together. Are they really that naive? These Republicans know that they can tear Obama up and win the White House so they are working to make him our nominee. Once the general election comes, they will abandon him for McCain and we will once again lose a Democratic White House.

I urge all of you to take your blinders off and realize that Obama does not have a squeeky clean record and will be torn up in the general election. We have all been fooled by the polls before.

As a Texan, I will be there for Hillary and stand strong for a real chance at change. One that is earned with perspiration.

(What's it going to take for one of my comments to get approved, CNN?)

Well, this is a bit bizzare: the candidate running as "potentially the first woman president ever!" is... reinforcing a gender stereotype from the 1950s?

This woman is still a viable Democratic candidate? Seriously, Ohio?

I do not see how anyone who treated General Petraeus as poorly as Hillary Clinton did can claim to be ready to be Commander In Chief.

Given a choice between a donor and a distinguished military officer she choose money. This was before he even had a chance to speak and without any facts.

Hillary lied about being ready and lies about being experienced. Why has she not released her notes from the 1990's Health Care debacle?
